Kaasbar Gouda was the ideal spot for lunch after a visit to the Gouda Cheese Market. I really wanted to try various local cheeses without having to commit to buying an entire wheel. The restaurant features many different local snacks, beers and cheeses. This includes cheese boards where you can sample a variety. So, I ordered one of these boards, Borrelplank Goudse Markt, and it was delicious! The board had six different chesses from the light, airy and creamy to more bold aged flavors. This included both young and aged farmers cheese. I also had an order of Bitterballen Rund which were super crisp on the outside, creamy on the inside with bits of beef and paired with a side of tangy mustard. Finally, I had a Gouda Toastie which was basically a large grilled cheese sandwich with two thick slices of crisp toast sandwiching gooey spiced cheese and topped with even more melted cheese. The pairing of local beers made the meal even more enjoyable. read more
