Well, as a bar it was actually really really good. The bar tender was really friendly, and incredibly helpful. In fact he explained most of the menu to us, which is mostly tapas mind you, and more designed as nibbles, but it is also good if you are only looking for a small bite to eat (which was the case with us). Okay, the beer menu isn't huge, but it is does have some decent options available. However, not only was the soup really nice, but the staff were incredibly friendly.

The wine list is short but good and affordable, we started with a light red negro from Italy and followed that with a more deep and full bodied lost luggage, which will be my tip to order when you go there. The menu is filled with gourmet nibbles, we went for the mixed platter which they kindly adapted for my friend who was longing for some dutch cheese as he was soon to board a plane to Italy for work the coming months. It boasted steak with chimichurri cooked perfectly, mackerel salad a delight, pate, manchego and small pieces of bread to accompany it all. We were curious and two foodies and wine in abundance made for lobster roll delish! Gorgonzola with pear chutney ...yum...gamba croquettes and olives ...and there was still so much to taste but there was just no way we could manage...lethally enticing this place... The only way to get them a perfect score would be some veggy options on the menu and a broader winechoice...but for now a must visit for foodies in rdam .

The first night I tried it was packed to capacity (even with sidewalk seating), so I decided to make a return trip during the day. It was decidedly more quiet and I grabbed a seat at the bar and got some recommendations from the bartender. Their beer selection is indeed top-notch. They had 10 taps and oh so many bottles. I asked for a local beer and got a deliciously dark and creamy Bax Bier Koud Vuur. Also had another beer that I don't recall. Not very helpful, I know. All in all, if you want to visit this place, go off-hours and not when everyone's trying to rage. That way, you can ask questions about beers and chill out instead of fighting your way to the bar.

In fact the bartender was a real character, and even posed for one of my photos. Actually, sitting on one of the cushions on the window sill, on a rather nice summer day, with one of the beer wine glasses that you get in the Netherlands, was an experience, yet a part of me felt that I was actually back home in Melbourne - not that this was a bad thing, but this place certainly felt like one of those really hip and cool bars that you find in the Collingwood/Fitzroy areas. They even have decent beers available as well. However, the thing is that what sets this place apart from the Melbourne bars are the beer wine glasses (and I am really going to miss them back in Australia).
