Tried this place yesterday. It's not cheap but the service provided is unique and there aren't too many places like it in the area. The owner was very informative and receptive and the trainer in the water was great with our beloved Beagle. It was his first time in the water and he was trying to get used to his surrounded. This place is fantastic. Water exercise is great for active dogs or for dogs who need rehabilitation (water exercise is great for everyone!). I took my dog Reza here yesterday, and I think he got a lot out of it. The staff is friendly and accommodating. 30 minute appointments are very affordable, especially if you buy a package. My only complaint is the distance - it's a 40-minute drive from DC. Nonetheless, I'll definitely be coming back, because I think Reza really benefits from it. read more

This review is based on two visits. The pool area is adequate, clean, safe, well-lit, and laid out to ensure the safety of dogs, trainers, and pet parents. The reception area needs to be bigger and could be less crowded with a better design layout. The scent of the incense was overwhelming and irritating to my dogs and me. The trainers were different at each swimming session, and both times were outstanding. They showed patience, care, attention, and excellent handling and teaching skills. They also provided me with suggestions to help my dogs in the future enhance their swim. The price was reasonable. The scheduling was challenging. I could be better coordinated with access to online scheduling. Despite the predominantly positive experience, I will not bring my dogs back. The customer service and front desk interactions could have been better. I concur with other reviewers that the owner/manager could enhance customer relations skills. I wish them the best! read more

We always wanted to take our dog to the water but we didn't know if he could swim. Also our dog is super energetic and has a hard time focusing so we thought taking him swimming would drain his energy and help him to listen better! So we took our dog Scooby here and they were super patient and taught our dog how to swim! Afterwards at home his energy was drained and he just rested :) it was great! He had a really good time but towards the end Scooby had an incident, that was no fault of their own and they were super gracious about it and didn't even take extra from us. I highly recommend this place to teach your dog to swim as well as working them out if they already know how to swim! The place and the people are very dog friendly and super nice! I have been bringing my dogs here for years - and there's a reason that I drive 40 minutes to get here (and there are closer pools to my house). The facility is clean, the pools are nice, and the water in the pools is not chlorinated (so you don't have to worry about washing your dog every visit - which is important for me because I swim my dog typically once a week). We came here to give our one year old lab some swim time. He LOVES the water and I wanted to give him an opportunity to swim. The owner is wonderful! She responded to my email quickly and we scheduled a swim session over the phone. When we got there my pup was VERY excited. And the staff knew exactly what to do. They were so calm and kind with my exuberant puppy and he had an incredible swim session! Carolyn was our swim coach and she was AMAZING. We brought our 8 m.o. Bernese Mountain dog here after he was diagnosed with a joint condition, and swimming was recommended to help him exercise/keep healthy without the impact. I had had a terrible experience at the Canine Fitness Center in Crownsville (near Annapolis) which was recommended by my vet (no more!) after my dog needed aquatic exercise to strengthen his leg muscles after a recent ACL surgery. I went online and found K-9 Aquatic Center, and called. To my surprise, the owner answered. I explained what had happened previously. She emphasized K-9's focus on thoroughly trained "swim coaches." She said I could work with the same "coach" if wanted to (schedules permitting), so one person could track the dog's progress. She said she's also hoping to have a vet on staff by July. I was encouraged by the call, so I brought my dog in. I am VERY GLAD I did. This place is a jewel. Professional in everything they do. Expertly trained, friendly staff. The coach I was assigned, Kelly, has been so professional I haven't felt the need to be in the pool room with my dog. I've been back numerous times now and it's the same - my dear boy is in the hands of a pro. He loves coming here now - I see how at ease she is with him - watching his every move - and most important, he is getting better! The whole point of doing this, right? We brought our 7 month old puppy here for some pool time. He can swim, but isn't too comfortable yet, so we wanted to help get him some positive exposure with a swim coach. From the moment we walked in, we knew we were in good hands. Dominique, the owner, welcomed us right in. Several of the staff greeted Ghost, and helped get him fitted with a life jacket. He swam with Alex, and it was such a great experience. Alex was very patient with him, helped him, and coached him along during the session. He knew when he needed breaks, and just carried him around the pool. This is Ghost's 2nd pool experience, although 1st time at K9 Aquatic, and we will definitely be back! This facility is very professional, and the attention they pay to your dog makes you feel extremely comfortable. My 2yr old Yellow Lab had a failed TPLO Surgery on his left knee last April and I just found out his other knee needs surgery. Charlie could barely walk he could no longer climb stairs and barely could get up from a resting position . Dominique and her fabulous staff worked tirelessly with Charlie swimming each week . Our dog Oshie absolutely LOVES coming to daycare and has become a more confident and better behaved dog as a result! The staff and Dominque are incredibly nice and professional and really love the dogs as their own. Oshie was adopted at the beginning of Covid 19, and wasn't socialized much due to the pandemic. She was a bit nervous the first time at daycare meeting so many dogs at once. However, the other dogs at daycare were so sweet to Oshie, which helped her warm up to them within a day, and now she cannot wait to go and see her friends during the week- she has the BEST time! We are talking here about my kid. We have been living together for over 12 years and he started to develop arthritis in his hind legs. My vet recommenced swimming and recommended K9 Aquatic Center. I called to make an appointment, and Dominique, the owner was so sweet, trying to accommodate my schedule. I went with my Bailey and he had a blast. The swim coach, a lovely girl, was so patient with my boy, and he loved it. Everyone was cheering for him, and I was tearing up. We have been coming now for several months. Bailey could not climb upstairs and now he can. The swimming has drastically improved his life. He is also looking for the treats at the end of the swim. Dominique makes dehydrated chicken jerkies, and he loves those! This place is just amazing and filled with love, laughter and care. I would recommend it to anyone. read more

My dog Biscuit had to get knee surgery back in the beginning of April. I knew she needed to swim so I did some research online and found this place. Biscuit doesn't really like water, actually, in her mind, water was acid. My first visit, I was pretty nervous. I found out very quickly that the owner, Dominique, was such a caring and compassionate person. She greeted us and was so sweet to my nervous dog. Went it was time to swim, we got Chris as her coach who never rushed or forced Biscuit into the pool. He was so patient and just let Biscuit go in on her own (it took a long while). Today, almost 3 months after our first visit, even after Biscuit's full recovery, we still go because Biscuit now JUMPS into the water. She LOVES it. We have had the other coaches and ALL of them are wonderful. Zach is full of energy and they are all so polite and professional. We will be a lift-time customer for sure! read more

I have been taking my dogs here for 10 months and I am so pleased we found this place. The place is very clean and there are 5 pools. We have had the pleasure of working with 8 or 10 of the swim coaches in the last 10 months and each one has been very gentle and professional with the dogs. It is a very safe environment, and the dogs are never left unattended. Owners are allowed to watch their dogs swim inside the pool room at one of the benches close to the pools. There are life vests of all sizes for the dogs, and swim snoods for dogs who don't like water in their ears. There are also a number of toys for the dogs to retrieve to help them have fun with their swimming. Swim Bumpers, water disks, tennis balls, and pretty cool stuffed fish (which it seems like every dog loves!) Each pool has a set of steps and a ramp, and every session is accompanied by a swim coach. My one dog was very timid at first. They worked with her to build her confidence, and after several visits she was ready to jump in on her own! We recently lost one of our dogs to cancer, and the staff there could not have been more caring, expressing their sadness at our loss. I love this facility and can't say enough good things about it. It is clear to me that the owner loves dogs and built this place to provide a safe setting for dogs to swim. I see many older dogs here who struggle to walk, but once in the water, they are having the time of their life and getting much needed exercise. I've gotten to know several of the swim coaches through our sessions and every one clearly loves dogs. I wish I could give more than 5 stars, and if my dog could type, she would give 5+ stars too. read more

I had my dog swim 2 times before, 2 years ago, no issues that I knew of. Last week, went back to swim. My dog is afraid in small places, especially when people are up in her space. The office area is nice but it is small. We met a new handler, she had to warm up to him, it took her a couple of minutes. Only thing, my dog did was a short growl, once at the owner, and her response was, "All dogs like, me". My dog, after that did not pay her any more attention. We, then went in and proceed to start our swim session, it went well. the handler toweled her off, by the side of the pool, then another handler was sitting there and gave her a treat. We went into the office, the other handle was on her knees offering my dog treats. Never did she, bark, snap, or lunge, or even growl. Things seemed good, the owner said, "Make sure you let her go the bathroom before you get into the car". I called to make another reservation, and I am handed over to the owner, Who says, "there is something about your dog I don't like". I get it, its your business. If you were that concerned about my dog, why did you let her finish the appointment. We knew you took the handler into the pool area behind the door and were talking about us, why not tell us then, it's just not a good fit? Only reason, I can come up with is, you were going to have to pay the handler out of your pocket, if we left. I think your handlers are awesome and your facility is great. I think you should be honest in the moment and be upfront with your customer. read more

Real review by real person who has taken his dogs to both K9 Aquatic and Wellness Center and Canine Fitness. Both places are awesome. Both have engaged owners who care about the dogs that come there. Both have excellent, patient staff who love what they do. Both have prices that are comparable and reasonable. So what's the difference? Distance. I loved Canine Fitness Center and drove an hour there and an hour back so my shepherd mix could swim 30 minutes. I wouldn't have done that had I not 1) loved my dog more than anything and 2) Canine Fitness Center and swimming wasn't good for my dog. Now to get to the review on K9 Aquatic. I love this place. Close to home and owner and staff are wonderful and patient. When I got my new rescue last year and we took him to swim, he was a nervous wreck. But the staff at K9 Aquatic was very patient with him. They let him go at a comfortable pace and here we are, a year later, and he swims like an olympian. Loves the water and loves the people there. I'm not sure about the negative and what I can only assume to be fake review based on my experience but come on! I have been taking my dogs over a year and no one has EVER put a hand on my dogs. They would never do that. Everyone who works there not only love dogs but are extremely patient. And what's up with the person saying they dropped off their dog and then then picked up the dog later? I call BS. No one drops their dog off and comes back. Most owners who care about their dogs stay with their dogs and enjoy watching their dogs having fun. Long story short, both places are good. Take your dogs to wherever is closer and you can't go wrong. Swimming is great exercise for dogs, especially if you have large dogs. An ounce of prevention costs a lot less than a TPLO surgery. These are the lessons learned. And people, stop putting up fake reviews! I don't have time to call you out on all your BS. read more
