I'll give a shout out to Craig and Michelle. I kind gave it away who I am if they are reading this review about festival walk. I always needed to go to new town plaza but after they showed up in festival walk I was really delighted and excited to make my bank empty again!! Everything is smooth, I had made thousands of memory in this mall I hanged out with my friends and celebrated my birthday here, these were the highlighted memories I had in this mall!!

Talking about "ice", when we were kids growing up in HKG, we'd sell our places like this so that we can enjoy some respite from the smothering humid heat; now, EVERYTHING has AC - how times have changed! We home that they are soon going to have AC in the sewers! ITMT, Festival Walk is a very good place to take a load off, have a cuppa, or a wonton noodle! Congee to think of it, the latter might NOT be an option, yet.

I'd been given a mission from back home, a seemingly simple one - to bring back a bamboo steamer…read more What was casually requested, rather offhand, soon descended into a mini frenzy of obsessed madness, as simply popping out to get a steamer in Hong Kong isn't as quite easy as you might think it to be. Hong Kong is no longer a place where these things are made, and had it been any city in China it might have been a fairly simple request to make. Luckily, the hotel had fabulous internet, and I read up on a charming little local family business - the last of its kind in Hong Kong - which supplies local restaurants (and annoying tourists, like myself) with homemade bamboo wares. And so I spent my last morning in Hong Kong trekking across town to Tuck Chong Sum Kee Bamboo Steamer Company. Much to my delight and relief, it was still there (some of the articles I'd found online were quite a few years old). Tuck Chong Sum Kee was a charming little store full of amazing handmade bamboo steamers, moulds and other knick-knacks, making my brand new, homemade bamboo steamer the perfect souvenir to bring home - and one with a story, too!

If you're like me, with size 41 feet ... shoe shopping in Hong Kong can be, shall we say…read more'challenging'? Fortunately, there's always Vickie Shoes. I was introduced to Vickie by our relocation agent - that's right, I got in early. Shoes, then an apartment, its all about getting your priorities straight girls. Most places in Hong Kong go up to a 40, which is always too small (although better than the 37 on offer when I lived in South Korea), but just close enough for a tantalising 'maybe - I should try it just in case ...' but it never ends well. Marks & Spencer cater for the larger sizes, as does a shop at the plaza end of Stanley Market, but Vickie definitely rules the roost. Off the rack - or shelf if you want to be picky - sizes go up to a 42 as standard, but, if that still doesn't do it for you, they'll make 'em for you. Up to a size 47. It's a fairly captive market, and they know it. Their summer range of flats and sandals are all marked at around the HKD $400 mark, and the pair of grey suede boot I bought last winter were almost double that. But the quality is good. And you know you have a choice of styles - anything in the shop! When was the last time anyone above a 38 had that on offer? I find lot of the styles a bit old fashioned. But that's my personal and standard opinion of flats in general. It is with a heavy heart that I have boxed up most of my heels (sniff), but they really aren't practical for walking around Hong Kong - the pavements aren't exactly even in a lot of places and Thank God for the escalators, but those hills are Not, repeat Not (yes with the capital N) stiletto friendly. I'm coming to terms with a new world order, fortunately, I have my pal Vickie to guide me through.

When I came to visit at the end of May, they were offering a Thai themed buffet. Some notable items were: Tom Yum Goong - Very good soup! Sour, lime, savoury, crazyyyy spicy! It's addicting to eat! Oyster bar - Oysters are shucked fresh and you can taste how fresh they are. They're small but very good. Thai desserts - Mango sticky rice!!!! YummYYY!!! They also have a good selection of cheese and hams. Prosciutto is available here for you pamma ham lovers (but it is also cleared out hella fast). Half the items here were not prepared that well - they were dry, barely warm, or not that fresh. Likely due to low turnover because this place was barely half full. The Indian food was good but not fresh because it was barely touched by the other customers. They have an entire dessert section horrayyy!! Unlimited good quality ice cream. Some selection of cakes. Candy bar (but the candy didn't look too good :( ). There's also a chocolate fountain! Service is great here - Attentive and constantly clearing out dirty plates!

The rice crepes had an oddly soft and mushy texture to them with fillings that did not have a pleasant flavor to them. The congee was creamy, but fairly tasteless. The rice noodle and wonton soup looked great but was fairly mushy and lacked any real depth or complexity to the broth. The fish cakes were okay but fell short of much better options at other local restaurants (like Tsui Wah). The pork and egg over rice was extremely oily and the texture of the meat was extremely off-putting. The restaurant was fairly busy, probably because of the prices -- but I can't find any reason I'd dine here again.

This place has the best, richest fish broth I've ever had in a restaurant's bowl of noodles. The fish balls, cakes, and patties were very bouncy and tasty but I think they might have been machine made unlike unlike the hand made fish balls at Tsim Chai Kee (沾仔記), though. I would recommend that you go out of your way to come here and try their food because I have never had a better flat rice noodle with fish ball in fish soup before. They also serve a watercress greens with fermented tofu dish. Most places serve the fermented tofu straight. This place has made a kind of gravy sauce with the fermented tofu. If you like this dish, then be sure to order it. I am not crazy about fermented tofu but I gave it a try anyways because i noticed that many diners had ordered this so it must be good, if you like fermented tofu to begin with. The place is kind of a dive and you'll have to share tables. It is always packed, but I've never had to stand in line. The service is typical Hong Kong, quick but brusque. No English menu.

Part of the Aqua Group (who brought you the luxurious Hutong and whimsical Shu Hu Ju) Red Almond is a pared-down version of the elaborate Chinese cuisine the group is famous for. Resembling an ancient Chinese tea house (one of those restaurants in wushu movies where fights happen) the restaurant offers breath-taking city views of Causeway Bay. The food is excellent, although the famed Sichuan dan dan noodles were a disappointment (good peanut sauce; over-cooked noodles). It currently also offers a few Malaysian dishes seasonally, and those were done pretty well. It was really empty for a Sunday afternoon- I do hope my review will change that- it's a good option for Sunday brunch if Sundays in Causeway Bay is your thing. Bottomline: their weekday executive lunch is an excellent deal- 4 course for under $100; order dishes rather than bao and noodles.
