Had to write a review because I'm SO glad I decided to try out KN Nails instead of continuing to go to Purple Sarah out of habit. If you're a local, this spot is quite literally half the price & they go 3x as fast! I get a gel manicure & regular pedicure & often have to book an appointment 3+ weeks out at PS. KN booked my appointment for the next day & also takes walk ins. The mom & son duo working at this place are very kind, the place is super clean & they finished my mani pedi within 45 min & that's WITH the amazing leg/foot as well as arm/hand massages. The last time I went to PS my mani pedi took almost 3 hours ‍ The girls over there are nice & all, but I'm new mom & just really don't have time to be away for that long! This may look like a simple salon but I called and the appointment was quick and easy to make. They picked up the phone right away which is always a plus. Hahn was my nail specialist for my gel nails. She was SO fast. I'm so impatient and I will wait three weeks to get my nails done because I hate to sit there forever. I've never had my nails done so fast. And she included an arm and hand massage. She used two curing machines so every minute was maximized and the result is beautiful. I even asked for an extra coat and she didn't blink. Cost was $25 for gel and manicure. Total time 30 minutes and a happy spot. This place isn't fancy but it is right on the Main Street and parking is across the street or next to the bridge for free or on the street with metered parking. I'm happy and I'm picky! read more

Favorite nail salon!! I had a pedicure done by the son of the owner, whom was really nice and funny. (Also gives a great foot massage!) The prices are good and the salon is really clean. Would recommend calling ahead of time though since they're usually busy on weekends and might not be able to get you in right when you arrive. Defiantly worth the wait though!! There was a bucket next to the pedicure chair with scrub brushes and files in it. There wasn't a disposable liner used on the foot bath, which I assumed was a common practice these days but not here evidentially. The water was cool and the technician was very gruff. The pedicure was rushed (salon was empty) and then I noticed the red flags. The towel the technician was using for me to put my feet on was filthy, and not by my filth. Then she grabbed the brushes, which were wet in the bucket, and started scrubbing my feet in the dirty foot bath. Then she washed them out IN MY DIRTY FOOT WATER, and tossed them back into the bucket. I thought maybe she was going to sterilize them later but then why go to the extent of washing them thoroughly in the dirty water? You know darn well they aren't sterilizing them after. The files were dirty and the clippers came from an already opened "sterilization bag". The massage chairs were dirty and needed a good wiping down. The technician put on the polish THEN did the massage. I have literally never in my life had things done in this order and it made no sense. How have not more people gotten fungus here? Maybe not coming back to leave reviews? I won't be back. read more

My sister and I went in here for a mani/pedi after Christmas. The people were so nice, but I can't overlook the fact that it wasn't remotely sterile. They were overworked and so one tech worked on both my sister and I. They have someone who just does the massages now, so while I was getting my pedicure, my sister was getting a leg and arm massage. Once my pedicure was done, the tech switched over to do my sisters pedicure and I was treated to the massage. The same nail file and cuticle cutter that had just been used on me...was then used on my sister. Just wiped off with the towel. It wasn't even wiped off with alcohol. It was literally just reused. It's my sister...so fine. But I don't even want to know how many strangers before me had the same cutter used! I want to be supportive of local businesses, but I can't overlook unsafe conditions. If they would just up their game when it comes to safely sanitizing their equipment, they would be a great spot. read more

I went into this nail salon today, the man was a gentleman and held my chair for me. As for the women, I can't say their manners matched his. I asked the lady for a fill on a gel set, she used acrylic powder for one, and then for my white French tips she basically painted half my nail white... incredibly disappointed. The women were immensely rude and the nails weren't done correctly at all. Only reason I went is because Lucky Nails was booked for the day and I live almost an hour from Brattleboro. I got my nails done here the day before my wedding, and they were great! Super nice staff and the best leg massage I've ever had. I got a regular pedicure and a gel manicure, and both remained chip-free for over a week. The place isn't fancy, and there was a really strong smell (which I think comes from the teatree lotion they use) but overall a great spot for getting your nails done. read more

These women are so incredibly nice! This was my first time here but everyone else seemed to know the manicurists by name, which is always a good sign. I got a gel manicure for $25 which is pretty average. The BEST part however, was the arm and hand massage they give after the nails are done. I am pretty used to a 30-40 second hand massage which always leaves me pretty sad but this was amazing! She took her time and really made the massage part of the whole experience which I loved. My friend and I went into this salon with the impression based on the reviews that it would be a good experience, however,​ that was not the case. First off, the woman taking care of me seemed to look bewildered when I asked for her to take off what was left of my gel manicure. She then proceeded to pick at one nail with cuticle clippers for 25 minutes, scrapping my nail bed, and to no avail at getting my gel off. She then used a tool that only took the color off, but left chunks of gel on and when I kindly asked if she could take them off I was told:​ "don't worry about it." Then, she got up and left and another lady took over and used acrylic​ powder on a gel manicure, with gel nail polish. I was utterly confused and horrified when she hacked my manicure with an emery board and sawed my nail so much the manicure came partly off. Across from me was a girl I had just met who's fake nail kept falling off, and the lady just kept pressing it down and then randomly left her to go do a pedicure. I really wanted to like this place​ and tried to get to know the lady doing my nails but was upset with the quality and her overall attitude to me and my friend. Yes sometimes they are overbusy but they at least take the time to try to get to everyone fairly. K and N is incredibly clean. The massage is excellent. The massage chairs are outrageously expensive. They invested a lot of money and care into this business. I love this place. The family is lovely. They remember everybody...Husband wife son and another lovely woman... Everything is sterile. After a sixty minutes episode around six years ago I asked to see a filter in their foot tub. Immaculate. I used to get very reg. pedicures because of profession(massage therapist) can see feet... not so anymore. but going tomorrow and looked up number thought I would right a review because I really did not like other one. Although it's not a fancy luxury spa, they do what they say - nails. I was able to get in as a call ahead/walk in and they were pretty friendly. It was a young man who did my pedicure - he gave me a really good foot massage as part of the pedicure and the nails came out nice. I was just visiting but it seemed like there were a lot of regulars there getting nails done. 8/6/13 I was in Brattleboro to visit dear family of mine and was treated to a mani/pedi by and with her. When we walked in we were told immediately "pick color" (in poor English I might add). No "Welcome to our Salon" etc. But I've been to nail salons like this in other parts of our country before, so no great concerns so far. When I tried to pick out a polish color, most of the polishes were separated and appeared dried out and old. To their credit, the pedi/massage chairs appeared new and were quite nice. The chairs did a good job massaging, not just violent vibrating as I have experienced in other salons before. I let the tech (owner/manager?) know that I had gel polish on my toes, knowing that would require extra time to soak off. I was already aware of the technique to "break the seal" prior to soaking off the gel polish which includes a quick stroke or two of an emery board to the top coat of the polish. The first person who worked on me was an older Vietnamese woman. She GROUND OFF the polish (at places down to the nail bed) with a very rough emery INCLUDING the sides and cuticle of my toenails. I often said "ouch, that's my skin!" and she just nodded her head and said "yes" with no regard to my obvious discomfort. By the time she put the cotton soaked in acetone under the foil wrap, it really stung my skin. As of today 8/11/13, the skin on the sides of several of my toe nails remain red and tender. Then an older Vietnamese man came over to complete the pedicure (I know they were Vietnamese because I politely asked in conversation). Everything was great until the part of the massage that included punching (literally punching with a closed fist). At first it was to the bottom of my feet - which I have had before and actually enjoy. But then he punched the inner and outer sides of my ankles! Right on my bones! I bit my lip as to not complain because the other part of the massage felt quite nice. My dear family member was getting a pedicure right next to me (which I might add DID NOT include brutal punching of ankle bones). Her nail tech was a younger Vietnamese male who was very funny/entertaining and able to communicate in English much better than my two techs. However I did notice that although my dear family member specifically requested no polish whatsoever - only buffing, her tech pressured her into getting clear polish, against her initial wishes. At this point, I did not want to disappoint or embarrass my dear-family-member who spoke so highly of this place so I did not speak up/complain. Had I been paying for this myself I would have spoken up more loudly and clearly. The most unsettling part of this disappointing service was that my tech (the older Vietnamese gentleman) cut the cuticles on my fingers - making a number of them bleed. Ordinarily I do not allow cutting of my cuticles unless especially needed. I had just had a mani two weeks ago and certainly did not need any cuticles cut. Pushing back would have sufficed. Had I realized that he was going to cut them I would have tried to stop him in time. In other salons, I've been given the option of cutting or not. Not this place. They did not ask me prior to starting to cut. I nervously watched as I noticed (and painfully felt!) him cutting the next finger's cuticles. Again not wanting to embarrass or seem ungrateful to the person who was treating me to the service I did not speak up. After the man saw my thumb cuticle bleeding he giggled and pointed saying "Whoops" and proceeded to squirt a clear blue liquid labeled "skin protector" on the bottle. This also painfully burned, but I hoped it would ward off possible infection. Five days later my thumb cuticle is still swollen red and tender. I am happy to provide a picture if anyone is interested. Then the tech flooded my nails with the clear top coat which left shiny and eventually peeling polish on the sides and ends of my fingers. Within 6 hours one finger polish started to chip. Five days later 7 of my 10 nails are chipping. Being on vacation I havent done any dishes or significant soaking in water of my hands which might explain chipping this soon after a supposed "professional" manicure! read more
