Kenner is pretty far out of my way, but they said they could do the job in the time frame I needed. As I arrived another customer was in the process of having her pants pinned for hemming. The shop was very small and movement was difficult with others in the shop. Once she was done, I climbed on to the pedestal and tried on my pants. The seamstress was very quick with her pinning which reduced my stress level greatly. I did feel slightly ridiculous standing on a raised pedestal with my head only a few inches from the ceiling, but I got over it. In the end, my pants were hemmed properly and the prices were reasonable. There was a slight communication problem when my order was ready, but we worked through it. If you're in Kenner and need something hemmed, give this place a try.

Because they're cheaper and faster for the same quality. I also happen to have to be in that area for work too which makes going there easier, but that's another story... THE GOOD Pricing: Two separate suits hemmed (jacket sleeves and pants, four pieces total) at Family Alterations: $45.00. ONE suit jacket hemmed alone at Lil' Daves: $25.00?!? ONE dress pant hemmed alone at Lil' Daves, brough on a separate occasion: $18.00?!? That is a ridiculous difference in price. I've also brought pants to Family Alterations that had to get new seams on some torn stitching: $2.50. A new button for a dress shirt: $1.00. Can't beat it. Speed: You don't need to pay extra for expedited work, because it's already done quickly for you. Again with the suit example: Four pieces at Family Alterations took three days. One piece at Lil' Daves took over a week. Both times. Quality: Family Alterations does acceptable, quality work on par with Lil' Daves. Seams are straight, hidden fairly well on most items, and I've never had to bring anything back to get redone. So again, why should I pay so much more and wait so much longer for the same level of work? THE BAD Method of Payment: Unfortunately, they only take cash. Not really that bad for most people, but I almost never carry any money on me and I forget to bring some every time, so I inevitably have to drive across the street to make a withdrawal. OVERALL Good quality, fair pricing, quick service...aren't all those characteristics of a place you'd like to do business with? If you live in the Metairie/Kenner area, I would most definitely recommend Family Alterations for your alteration needs. Quick turnaround too. I have been using Missy and Hahn's services for years. Costume alterations, formal dress alterations, adding appliqués or beading, sewing and everything in between. Some work was planned well in advance, other items were brought in on tight --- can you fix this in 36-48 hour type timelines. In each instance, I've been accommodated and EXTREMELY pleased with the final product. Sewn items don't look like they were "made" and that certainly is worth its weight in platinum. Most recently, I used their services for alterations for my dress, alterations and embellishments to a jumpsuit and to hem my Dad's tuxedo. Having Hahn take on these key items allowed me to focus on all the other things because I know it would be just as I wanted - the first time and ready when she said it would be. I picked the items up and didn't even try them on right away because I trust D & D just that much! It's Grade A+ every time! Appointments can be scheduled online or by phone, walk ins are accepted as well. Pricing is what you'd expect given their reputation and clientele and some times the alterations cost more than the dress/pants, but in my book--- it's worth every cent.

While out running errands on a recent day off, I noticed how late in the afternoon it was getting to be (near closing time for most businesses) and still had one last errand to run. .. the pants. I looked for the closest tailor, and happened upon this place right at closing time. The doors were locked when I initially approached, but a very nice lady then opened them and invited me in. The shop was very clean and organized.I apologized for being late, however, she was having none of it as she politely and professionally measured for the needed alterations. The pants alterations ended up being perfect. Most tailors and seamstresses can do the desired work in a professional manner, however, the owner of this shop made me feel special for just being her customer, no matter if after closing time, and treated me like I wish to be treated. And that is what makes this business a 5 star business in my book.
