The week before July 4, my Nissan Cube started making a knocking sound, which became more frequent. The only way I could get it to stop was to shift into park. The first two transmission shop I called refused to work on a Nissan CVT, the second was booked up for several weeks. A local mechanic told me it was definitely a transmission problem and recommended I drive to K & M, who had replaced a transmission in his wife's Nissan. I called them yesterday, and they immediately said "bring it in for a look". First thing this morning, they called back saying that I was their luckiest customer of the week. My Cube had only a minor problem in the exhaust system, which they quickly welded back in place for an incredibly low price. I drove home happily this morning. read more

Overview: very reasonable price for new or used transmissions. They offered a warranty on the used transmission they installed. The warranty states that if there were any issues, within a limited time period, with the used transmission, they would replace it for the cost of labor (about $900). They installed a lemon of a used transmission and filled the differential with stop leak to hide the issues. There are very few competent transmission shops around anymore, and the cost of taking a car to a dealership for repairs is not feasible for most people. For that reason, it is good to have a shop like K&M around. The used transmission I had installed in my car is a combined transmission differential combo. The differential had worn out, but to replace it, the whole transmission had to be replaced. They installed a used diff/transmission for a very reasonable price. The replacement diff/ transmission ran fine for awhile, but I started to notice a burning smell coming from the car. I checked the transmission fluid, and that looked fine; then I checked the differential fluid and it did not look fine. I drained the differential fluid and could tell they had not put fresh fluid in the diff. Furthermore, indicated by the color of the fluid, the diff had been topped off with stop-leak. Which leads me to believe they had to have known that this was a worn unit not fit to be resold. Conclusion: I paid to have K&M replace one bad differential with another bad differential. And by the time I found out it was a bad differential, the warranty was up. So, now I have a car that runs, but leaks 1 bottle of differential fluid a week. Thanks K&M. Pretty shady move. read more

I wish I could give zero stars. I brought my car to get a transmission. It stayed here for two weeks. They told me my car would be ready on a Friday. Friday came still no call. I called them. They were courteous. Give me a rental. Rental they gave me transmission was slipping. I almost killed myself turning at an intersection when it slipped and traffic was coming. Call them back Monday. The lady told me I would have my car that day. They were waiting for the dealership All day still no callback. I called them. No answer. Finally got a call back around 3 o'clock and they told me to come get my car. They did not want to fix it after having it for two weeks and the reason was that the wrong transmission came in they were going back-and-forth with whoever they purchased it from still to not get the correct one . The gentleman told me they just did not want to be bothered with the car it was too much of a hassle. So I pick my car up and ask the guy what happened? Why would they not fix my car they had it for two weeks and he told me it's my car. It's my problem. They don't want to deal with it and they did not like that I said something about the keys being left in the car while the car is unattended and he stated they do that with $150,000 cars all the time who cares about mine they have insurance read more

I thought my 2000 GMC Savana 3500 was having a Torque Converter issue that could be repaired via a replacement. I called these guys to see if they had any knowledge on the issue. Over the phone they were able to explain to me the issue that i was having and also the remedy in regards to fixing it. Turns out the Torque Converter was causing issues further along in my transmission. Bad news if I wanted to keep the car because the price for repair was more than the car is worth ($2400) but this is good news for planning purposes so that I can get what I can out of the vehicle and put it towards another. I took it to K&M they said they'll check it for free and all it needed was a drive axle !! If you value your money and your vehicle you will PASS on this place! I gave these guys 5 grand to rebuild my transmission and they say its a tuning issue that they never discussed with me. They replaced the torque converter 3 times in my truck because they apparently have no idea how to work on transmissions! Then they tell me to come get my truck because "They don't want to fix it again." and after telling them "It does NOT go in reverse." They pull it into a parking spot so now I have to push this 3/4 ton truck out of the spot by myself! Then I'm driving home and notice these geniuses didn't even close my hood all the way! Avoid K&M transmission at all cost. The worst transmission work that I have ever had done. They have workerd on my transmission 4 times in the past year. They never back there Warranty. They fixed my transmission just 3 months ago and I am currently posting this on the side of the road, waiting for a tow truck. Every one I talk to that has a diesel truck and has had there trans rebuilt there never says anything good and that they won't go back there. They keep saying that it's my fault that my truck makes too much power. But when I went there the first time I told them how much power my truck makes and to build the trans to handle the power. I was driving my vehicle when all of a sudden it would not shift. I stopped at a local mechanic who recommended that I take it here. I got it over there and left it for the night. The next day Mason called me and said that he was going to have to rebuild the transfer case and it would be around $1800. There was no way I could afford that so I told him I would be coming to get it. When I did pick up the truck it no longer moved. Remember I did drive it in. I ended up having it towed to another trans shop. They had it for a day and then called me to tell me they believed it was the control motor to the transfer case. They ordered a new one and put it in. Total cost $400. I picked it up and it drives perfect. That's a big difference. I feel like the first place was planning on taking advantage of me. They probably knew what was really wrong but wanted to make a quick buck off of me. How would I ever know if something was rebuilt. Sorry but I don't recommend this place at all. read more

I have a 2003 Taurus and the trans went out at 127k miles, I called k&m and they gave me the best price out of the 20 odd places I had called WITH A WARANTEE!!! so I asked when can you come get it? 20 minutes later their tow truck was in front of my house and the car was on it's way. The guys were very good at letting me know where they were at in the repair and they even satisfied my request for pictures of the progress. I had a terrible experience at K&M. They ignored me when I first arrived. They performed unauthorized work on my vehicle and then demanded payment for it. When I refused to pay for the repairs that I hadn't authorized, they got very belligerent with me. I must say I was taken aback by this treatment. Even in this day in age of mediocre customer service I never anticipated a business to be so hostile with a PAYING customer. They kept accusing me of wanting something for free, which was confusing because I was more than willing to pay for the repairs I'd authorized. (BTW: A simple bolt removal) The whole experience was so disgusting that I asked another employee to speak with a manager. Who should emerge, but the gentleman who had just verbally assaulted me, Mason, the owner! This company is rotten from the top down. And though I wasn't greeted when I arrived, Mason shouted, "I hope it (my vehicle) blows up when you leave!" Nice... Proceed with Caution read more

Let me begin by saying Mason and his team don't need this review. He's a young guy who's built an incredible business and has some amazing cars come through what we'd call a "speed shop," back East. My experience with Mason is as follows: our minivan blows its transmission on,a cross country trip. I find K&M on Google, call at 4:30pm, and have the van towed 140 miles, arriving at 10pm. By 10am the next morning I have a very reasonable estimate from Mike. Unfortunately, our travel plans preclude us from leaving the van with K&M, and I ask to pay for the diagnosis. Nope -- cost is $0. Here's where it gets exceptional. Mike and Mason call their supplier and get me in touch with the best shop at our final destination, two states over, where we take it via auto-hauler. These are guys whose time is clearly valuable, and they're working 6-7x days a week. And they asked for nothing in return, nada. Unbelievable. Wish I had mechanics like this where we live. read more
