We really liked this place in downtown Sidney. It was different. On our way down I -75 traveling to…read moreDayton, we were looking for a place that was relatively quick, easily accessible and not too expensive. That usually means choosing a fast food chain location. These chains serve their purpose but aren't much fun. This place popped up on Yelp and turned out to be a very pleasant surprise. The location is a short drive off the highway into downtown Sidney, taking about 4 or 5 minutes to get there from Exit 92. It was located in a retro building on the main intersection in town cross corner from the County Courthouse. Approaching from the West on Court St., it looked a little divey. It looks more pleasantly vintage from the Ohio St. side, which is actually its storefront. Our visit to this place prompted me to do some quick research. The Spot has been in business for over 100 years, opening in 1907. A fire destroyed the original building in 1940 and according to the local paper, "the current Art Moderne-style building was completed in 1941 and still features its original white porcelain tile, mid-century neon sign and iconic diner layout." It truly has a retro feel inside, going more or less for a 1950s aura where you would not be surprised to see Richie Cunningham sitting at a booth drinking a malt. Although the jukebox is digital, the upgrades enacted by the new owners who took over last year generally seem to be spot on. While it looks retro, the infrastructure is in nice shape with a clean, tidy appearance. It's a pleasant place for a meal. The format is walk-up-and-order. The girl working the counter was polite and efficient. To be fair in context, however, we walked in around 6:45 PM on a Wednesday night an hour-and-a-quarter before closing. It was not at all busy when we entered with one party there finishing their meal and only two others who walked in before we left. Hence, efficiency would be expected with no other customers to be served, but I'll still note the good work. The food was up quickly without any issues. We sat in 1950s comfort to enjoy our meal. I had the Turkey Club. It was quite good. I ordered mine with Onion Rings as my wife wanted to split these with me. She had the Swiss Lad sandwich, which she said was also very tasty. We split an Iced Tea which was likewise quite good. With everything, we spent $25.48 for dinner. At less than $13 per person, I was happy with that value. We'll certainly look for this place again when we are passing through Sidney.

Loved the sign that said "Table of Champions" I always like it when a restaurant recognizes their customers and appreciates them. We will be back, plan on going up to Sidney again next week.

This place has been here for a year or two, and has a steady stream of carryout customers during…read morethe quarantine, so I'm surprised it hasn't already been reviewed. Especially because it is so darn good. I went since it was handy, and looked good on their Facebook page. It's a mid-size restaurant, big dining area for when that restarts next week. It's not a fancy place, but the food is the focus. Easy phone-in ordering. Pretty much the basics on the menu: pizza, subs, sandwiches, wings, etc. But, great versions of those standards. I got boneless BBQ wings, onion rings, and "hot balls." I had to ask, and on the menu it makes more sense: "hot pepper cheese balls." That is exactly what they are. Small balls of cheesy goodness, kinda like fried cheese curds. A little heat, nothing strong if you don't like that. The onion rings were very, very good. And the wings were probably the best boneless ones I've ever had. Hand-cut and battered, freshly made, finishing up as I arrived (I called ahead, which always makes sense with wings and pizza, of course.) Tender, tasty chunks of breast meat, with a light, crispy batter. If I'd known how good they would be I would have had the sauce on the side, as they really didn't need the (good, slightly spicy) BBQ sauce. I got boneless since I would be eating in the car, and they were well-packaged for that, but I'm sure their standard ones are excellent too. I was stuffed for less than $20. I'll try their pizza, subs, etc. They had a lasagna special which sounded good, but the last one was snagged right when I got there. Check their FB for updates on those. If I lived closer I would be here often. And it looks like Sidneyites know how good it is; she's been busy with pickup and delivery, as a one-woman operation during the shutdown.

Food isn't great. Store is dirty. Service is slow & often chaotic. We've stopped going all together.read more

Ok that's fine maybe they got pranked a few times. When I drove into the parking lot there were a total of 3 cars. I didn't even think they were open (so not busy AT ALL). They were open and I went in and stood up front at cash register. I waited for a minute I then coughed and made noises like "hey I'm out here." No one came. I had to go hunt somebody (sitting in a booth talking to another co-worker). I said "do you work here." She replied, "yeah do you want to dine in"". I said "no I want to pick-up my order. I think it's sitting up at the register." She replied, "oh is it done?" Got my order and left. I opened the "fresh" baked rolls wanting to bite into a nice warm, soft roll. Well that didn't happen not only was it cold but also hard and had a bad after taste (like rancid oil). My husband has long stopped going to Bab Evans due to the poor service and the declining quality of the food. Now I have joined him and will not go back. It's too bad for Bob Evans because with all the other options in town you'd think they would try a little harder.
