Bruce Nelson, Contractor presented a written contract, all parties signed, for complete finishing…read morework for our unfinished basement. All work and terms were in the contract. Contractor agreed, from commencement of work, to complete the project in three weeks. Three Installments for payment were made based upon four agreed project completion points. Final installment was due upon satisfactory completion for the contract work. Contractor would disappear unannounced, no call no show, twice for periods of up to two weeks immediately after receiving payments. Contractor came to me before satisfactory completion and requested half the final installment stating: "He'd spent more money than expected and needed half the final installment to purchase materials to complete the contract work." I agreed hesitantly to pay half the final instalment. Contractor was already well passed the three weeks contractually agreed to complete work. Contractor, after acknowledging receipt for payment of half the final installment immediately removed one of his two workers off our project. One-week later contractor removed second of his two workers off our project. Contractor failed himself to arrive to satisfactorily complete contract work and permanently disappeared. Installation of a closet, lighting, electrical including wiring, plugs and switches, finishing work, final coat paint were then abandoned and left uncompleted. Contractor took an additional written check, earmarked on check bottom, for the purchase order of two windows, the cutting of an opening in foundation for installation of a 4'x 4' window, and installation of a finished scuttle for access to homes crawl space. Contractor has never provided the two windows, failed to complete scuttle finishing work, and failed to complete the foundation concrete cutting and window installation. Contractor abandoned a 4' x 4' cut, eight inch deep, in our foundation from the basement interior for window install, without completing cutting and install, which now compromises our homes foundation.

I rented an excavator from ATS to pull stumps and bury them in my back field. When I first…read morecontacted ATS I explained to them that time was a factor as we only had a few weeks of good digging weather left before the ground would freeze. We discussed rates and I expressed concern that I would finish before the month rental and end up paying for time I wasn't using the machine. The whole time I was getting the feeling that I was annoying the gentlemen I was discussing this with by asking questions. Eventually I was assured that you only pay for the time you us and decided to go forth with the rental. On my end, I got everything in order, post-haste. I delivered the insurance binder and was told that they were having a difficult time finding a machine. A week goes by... I have to follow up with ATS as they were not calling me, leaving me to wonder when and If the machine that I already put a $2500 deposit down on, was ever going to show up. I was forced to call back a few times looking for info before finding out that they were now having a hard time finding someone to deliver the equipment as they gave their CDL-A driver "time off" finally, almost a week later, they managed to deliver the machine but not until 5pm the day before thanksgiving. When I approached the driver to see if he needed a hand, he replied flatly, "No." and walked away. Then when I got into the excavator I noticed that there was no thumb on the machine. Something I had been told a few times, would be. This was frustrating (not to mention I was paying for it by the week). Then I noticed that the door was hanging on by (almost literally) a thread. which meant despite the cold I either couldn't close the door, or had to climb in and out of the front window (no easy task). It took ATS three days to come out and put the thumb on during which time one of the tracks fell off the machine completely! (luckily I was able to fix it myself) and a bucket pin broke in half! (luckily I was also able to fix it myself buy stealing a pin from the clean-up bucket) So far I was not impressed to say the least, but also being a veteran operator, I knew that machinery in much worse condition was still used on job sites today and so I took It all in stride. That is, until the final bill came. I ended up finishing my project in three weeks instead of a month ( or should I say that my project was cut short due to weather, which wouldn't have been a problem if ATS was able to find a driver and deliver the excavator a week earlier) ATS came and picked up the excavator a week ahead of schedule and had assured me that the machine didn't need to be cleaned before picking it up, which was a relief as everything was now frozen solid. But much to my dismay, the bill was for over $5000! How was this possible when the rental cost for the month was only $3800? As I looked over the bill I saw that I had paid more because I only kept the machine for 3 weeks instead of a month. there were also a lot of added hidden fees they never told me about. For example I was charged $200 for the pin that broke! They charged me a cleaning fee after I was told I didn't need to clean it. And despite the fuel meter saying full, ATS managed to cram another almost $100 dollars with of fuel into it by charging me $4 per gal! That's only a few examples. All in all I felt totally taken advantage of and will NEVER rent from ATS again.

Denali Building and Development truly stands out in the world of custom home building. Great custom…read morehomes don't happen by chance, and not many custom builders are able to take a vision and truly bring it to life--but Dan and Tasha can. I've witnessed them build dozens of homes, and no two are the same. Each one is uniquely designed to reflect the homeowner's ideas, style, and needs. But one thing they do have in common is the WOW factor! That level of customization takes more than just technical construction skills. Each custom home comes with unique challenges, and I've consistently seen Dan and Tasha coordinate closely, work through bumps, and keep projects moving forward in a timely and organized way. Anyone who has a minimum experience in construction knows that building a custom home is never a simple or straightforward process like standard construction. There are always moving parts, interacting variables, unexpected conditions, and problem-solving along the way; most builders are not willing to go that extra mile and try to push the homeowner to drop ideas and be within the builder's comfort zone--not Denali. From the homeowners I've been in contact with while surveying Denali's work, the feedback has been consistent: they felt Denali was able to build the home they envisioned. While not everyone may share the same perspective--and every experience is valid--those who understand custom construction recognize the quality of work and the level of care that Dan and Tasha put into these homes. They do as its for their own. If you're looking for a builder who can deliver truly custom homes and turn ideas into well-built, thoughtful spaces, Denali Building and Development is worth serious consideration, hands down.
