In my case, a player that had been visibly agitated for the entire game struck me down from behind and then tried to kick me in the face -- after the whistle was blown -- and ended up breaking my hand. This was more than a year ago, and after a year of surgeries and PT, my hand remains permanently damaged. There was no reason for this player to have been allowed to continue playing; as his team began losing he became increasingly agitated, making threats about wanting to "foul" and "teach a lesson" before the game ended. He had already been kicking and tripping people when the ball was not around, and choked people by grabbing the necks of their jerseys and twisting; this was especially targeted at the female players. His verbal threats were reported to the ref, by me and by our captain, who both times responded "you'll be fine." After he kicked me he had to be held back from fighting others on our team. Meanwhile, the ref instructed me that my visibly broken hand was "just dislocated" and encouraged people to try to reset it for me. The bones were in fact broken and twisted. I reported the incident to NYC footy, as did several of my teammates, who 1) insisted that they had "conflicting reports" of the incident, but did not respond to requests for those reports 2) misrepresented the availability of videos taken of the game 3) rather patronizingly, insisted that I must be new to the sport and that injuries sometimes happen, while characterizing my complaint as unreliable and emotion-driven 4) simply stopped responding to my emails and claimed they'd never heard about the incident, despite having received written incident reports. The player and referee were never reprimanded. I was offered a discount on signing up for a new season, then ghosted when I instead pressed for more information and accountability. While I had only been playing casually at the time, in university I played competitively. I am very familiar with the sport and I can say with absolute certainty that this incident was far outside of the realm of permissible "play." There is no reason that a player in this state should have been allowed to remain on the field, just as there is no excuse for trying to kick someone in the face when they are on the ground, especially after the whistle was blown. His intent was very obviously to cause as much physical injury as possible, and I am horrified to think what would have happened to my face or eye if I had been unable to block his kick with my hand. Footy NYC's decision to enable this player's behavior cost me the full use of my hand. Reading reports other similar incidents here, it seems that there is a pattern of NYC Footy allowing malicious and targeted aggression towards female players, and I would strongly discourage others from participating in the league. I am willing to share records of my correspondence with the league, should anyone find this useful.

IMO, the best table tennis club in NYC, and possibly NYS, based on the clubs I've been to upstate…read moreand in Long Island. Terrific flooring and ample space to play, with a high ceiling for lobbers and a generally good feel. The coaches are world class(not only in terms of skill, but also in terms of teaching, unlike other places in NY). The staff are friendly and will provide balls if you ask them. Only crutch is the lack of parking around the area, but there is always parking a bit further, if you are willing to walk three blocks(count it as a warm up and cool down). The entrance is definitely shady, but you won't be let down when you enter. This is a preferred club for competitive/amateur level players in the area, and is never empty closer to 5pm, so you don't need to worry about no one being there to play.

We both live in Flushing near Main St., so NYISC was a perfect place for us to travel to. The club inside was spacious and clean. Some of the staff greeted us as soon as we walked in and gave us a thorough and in-depth description of all the membership services and fees for ping pong games/coaching. The actual tables are professional-grade, and there are actually plenty of them spread throughout an enormous indoor facility. I liked the feel of the high ceilings while I played (or at least ATTEMPTED to play haha). Even though this place was popular on a weeknight around 7-8pm, the size of the facility didn't make me feel cramped. Checking out the rest of NYISC, I saw an indoor soccer field - which is a rare sight in a place such as Flushing. I don't play soccer, but I would recommend this space for soccer teams and friends looking to play a match or serious game. My boyfriend and I also wandered to the 'Pro Shop' in the sports club. They sold all different professional ping pong products from brands such as Butterfly (famous ping pong product manufacturer). We didn't purchase anything, but I did sign up for private lessons with one of the renowned & accomplished coaches. The pricing was for a set of 10 lessons and were more than affordable. The coaches were all world ranked, and have competed in Olympics, etc. Maybe one day I'll be able to at least keep up in a game with my boyfriend, lol. LAST THING: People here are very open and friendly. If you come on a weeknight like us or a weekend, there will always be staff to help you and fellow players/students to meet/interact with :) One person saw my extreme lack of ping-pong skills and kindly helped me out a bit the first time I came to NYISC -___- lols I will definitely be returning

I stopped playing for a long time and then came back to it with with Frank at Soccer Beyond. It was perfect for me as I had some foundation for playing but was extremely rusty. With Frank, you get to play lots and also scrimmage a lot. You work a lot on foundations, passing and dribbling skills that are designed to help you develop those skills. Even if you are advanced, there's a benefit. And you are a beginner, this is perfect as these are the type of drills you do as a kid. For someone who's more advanced and may say "why would I need to do that?" the answer is that even the pros still do the same exact drills. An as for beginners who might be put of by the previous reviewer's comment that "many of the drills seem to advanced for the absolute beginners" the truth is that this is exactly what we did as kids in school. Exactly. You'll get better just by coming often and working at it. (and get your own ball too) The group of people are also really cool and they generally come back again and again. And Frank is a really good coach and a very nice guy. To get this kind of instruction is really difficult. There's another guy in brooklyn that runs something similar and while I like him, he is simply no where near as good or as qualified as Frank is.

It's true that drills can be a little dull, but Coach Frank chooses them well, changes them often, and my touch has benefited. The sessions are welcoming and cordial. Many people return week after week. Skill level is skewed towards the beginner. Many of the drills seem a bit too advanced for the absolute beginners, who might benefit more from just getting a lot of touches via dribbling and passing drills.

I just want my kid happily and actively engaged in a team sport (and outta the house, let's be real). Anything else is extra. With that said, Super Soccer Stars was the perfect start to our son's soccer journey. This will be our 12th season--he started at age 3 and is now 5--and our son looks forward to each class. All his coaches have fostered values of teamwork, healthy competition, and self-confidence over the years. And they've been attentive to his individual strengths and weaknesses despite being enrolled in group classes. Classes are easy to schedule with multiple locations in Queens and programs are age-specific. I'm surprised by the complaints about customer service and rescheduling. The times that I've been unable to schedule a make-up class, of which there are usually multiple opportunities unless it's the end of the season, they applied a credit toward future sessions. My only gripe is that during inclement weather you don't know whether class is cancelled until the last minute and you're already on the road.

Both times we received broken or incorrect gear for our son and they refused to do anything. They sent a 9-10 year old jersey for a toddler, and when I followed up, advised that's their standard and the toddler versions are available online for $35. Disappointing to see a program using public space decide to nickel and dime their patrons.
