The good: I play in the coed rec league, so we play on any weeknights during the week, and almost always at Chinatown's Nike Field. This is good for me and my schedule, I don't want a game EVERY Tuesday night or whatever, and the field is the best size for small-sided coed. - The refs are a bit hands off, but I think they are smart - they aren't like some of the wackos who think they are reffing the World Cup. If there are any scuffles, hard tackles, they remind players of the casual nature of the league. - The teams are slightly more competitive than some of the beginner leagues, but not out of control. - The league is very good about almost always getting the games in - I can't remember a forfeit. Its not perfect - some of the annoying things include: - It always takes a few weeks between sessions/seasons to get the schedule up. Similarly, it takes a game or two to get your league shirts. - There is often one (and usually just) game a season that gets rescheduled for dumb reasons, like not knowing the field was going to get resodded, etc. - Sometimes the divisions can be unbalanced. Our team is pretty middling, so about 2 times a season we get creamed by hyper competitive, steroid infused college player squads. Finally, while I understand some reviewers (one reviewer) frustration with the league owner - it can be frustrating - for the most part she is responsive, she cares, and works really hard to be accommodating.

NYC Urban does not take player health seriously. League did not do anything serious as far as getting information on the incident, despite someone named Mike even promising to call me back. Over a month (and one surgery) later, I have yet to receive a call. League office will give you lip service but doesn't actually want to follow up on anything if it means more work for them to do. Referees in this league will consistently ignore calls and even basic stuff (like cleaning wet surfaces) if it means they can get home earlier. League rules aren't consistent or actually enforced; my team filled with many beginners had to go against experienced players from a higher division multiple times. When I told a league official of this, they simply shrugged their shoulders. Scorekeepers often gave points to the wrong players. All in all, the title might say "professionals," but this league is anything but that. For your own safety, and sanity, avoid giving them your money.

The Footy referee was more focused on reprimanding her for expressing her vocal outrage that a foul wasn't called. Mind you, she had a fractured cheek bone, bruised ribs, and a concussion. The referee laughed in her face. The other team faced no accountability. The result - she was suspended. Not like she can play any time soon due to her injuries, which may require surgery. Like other reviewers have noted, the refs can be biased, and that bias DOES result in injury. Don't join this league if you value safety.

I've played in these leagues for over a year now, so it kind of hurts to leave a bad review since…read moremy time hasn't been completely awful. However, as some reviews have pointed out, the refs can be very bad and make very biased calls. I've been ran into full speed in the back on breakaways, challenges that could've seriously injured me, only for the ref to call it a fair challenge. Meanwhile, if I challenge someone shoulder to shoulder in a fair play, it's called a foul if my opponent flails enough and looks at the ref. If I were you, I'd avoid Bedford Armory and Lower East Side, where I had experiences with those bad refs. The Brooklyn Bridge one was ok maybe 30% of the time (literally gave me a yellow card for defending his call while ignoring the entire opposing team hollering at him for it). The officials tend to ref the same fields every week. You risk getting injured due to the random nature of their officiating and inability to control games. I'm not sure if it's due to improper training or bias towards certain groups of players and favor towards others as some have pointed out. Whatever it is, it is completely unacceptable for me personally. My dad tore his ACL playing in his adulthood -- I don't want that to happen to me. I may try one more season if a good discount ever rolls around again, but I think I'll see how the refs and players are like around the other NYC leagues afterwards before deciding to come back ever again. It is what it is. I don't expect this review will be received by ownership well, but idrc at this point. Everyone is entitled to their opinion. This is a very new facility and it's spotless. The instructors are all fantastic, especially Hype. If if you're a fan of American Ninja warrior, then you'll know what this is all about. There's a bunch of obstacles here for you to train on. We came to Fieldhouse to attend a birthday party. It's was located inside Pier 62 at Chelsea Piers…read more The location was really popular for kids, as we saw a bunch doing different activities, like soccer games, gymnastics and cage batting. The facility had several soccer turf fields, gymnastics area, and couple of basketball courts. The lobby area had a ton of awards, medals and trophies that all the teams won. There were multiple vending machines as well. There were several party rooms at the back side. The rest rooms were kids friendly, as they had mini sinks at lower height for smaller kids. There were multiple staff members assigned to conduct the party. First they took the kids to basket ball courts where they did some relay running, played dodgeball and then did rope tug wars. They took the kids to fountains for water break few times. After the activities, the kids went back to party room where they were served pizzas, fruits, cheese platter, juice and sodas. The pizzas were decent. Finally they orchestrated the birthday song, assisted with cake cutting ceremony and handed slices of cakes to everyone. Overall the service from them was nice.

After that we went back to the party room for pizza and cake. Overall great place for sports and having party. They did a great job.
