Unfortunately, we experienced repeated issues with communication, follow-up, and professionalism. After my mother had a tooth extraction, she was sent home without clear after-care guidance. She experienced significant bleeding through the gauze and was unable to reach anyone at the office for assistance. She ultimately had to call another dentist for advice on managing the bleeding. A few days later, she still did not know whether her stitches were dissolvable, which should have been explained at the time of the procedure. Only after she followed up were arrangements made for stitch removal. More recently, my mother received a crown and experienced severe pain once the numbing wore off. She could not chew and even lightly touching the area was painful. I suggested she request a bite adjustment. Again, no one answered the phone, so she went directly to the office and received an adjustment, but her pain continued. She was advised to take high doses of pain medication despite her age and history of renal insufficiency. She took only what she felt she could tolerate safely. At her next appointment, which was scheduled for a filling, I attended with her to discuss pain management concerns. The assistant who prepared her was kind and explained that the nerve may need time to settle after the previous procedure, and we appreciated that explanation. When Dr. Scarfe arrived, the interaction became uncomfortable. He expressed frustration that my mother had not followed the medication recommendation. I explained that she had concerns due to her kidney function and asked that we speak respectfully and professionally. During the discussion, he acknowledged that he did not know her current labs but continued to insist the recommended dosing was appropriate. As I translated for my mother, the conversation escalated further and he ultimately declined to continue treatment. At that point, I agreed and chose to leave the practice. I thanked the assistant and receptionist for their help and accepted the referral that had been provided. As a healthcare professional myself, I found the interaction disappointing. My concern was not disagreement about treatment recommendations--it was the manner in which concerns were addressed. Patients deserve individualized care, respectful communication, and consideration of language barriers. If communication is difficult, interpreter services or designated contacts should be used. I cannot recommend this practice based on our experience.

Despite a history of excellent oral health and regular checkups at my previous dentist, Dr. Albers' team found issues requiring treatments at nearly every visit, contrasting sharply with prior dental care. I stayed because the original front office staff here were welcoming and patient-centered. Although unconventional, I often obtained clarification on my care from them, rather than Dr. Albers. They apologized when I raised concerns about his communication style, said I was not the first to voice concern, and said they had consistently suggested improvements to him. Their professionalism and kindness were the reasons I remained. Recently, the entire front office staff here have resigned. The new staff are rude, dismissive, argumentative, and lack follow-up. Their approach has completely changed the tone of this practice. For example, I was scheduled for a routine cleaning on a Monday afternoon but became ill over the weekend with COVID symptoms. I called to cancel first thing Monday morning. The staff said I should come in anyway because they wear PPE. I explained this would pose risk to other patients. They then threatened a $50 late-cancellation fee, despite the office being closed over the weekend leaving me unable to make a 48-hour notice. Dr. Albers later told me not to worry about the fee, but said I "could have still come in," which I found irresponsible for public health! Other issues included failure to provide follow-up on requested treatment estimate; staff admitted they had "forgotten" to call me. After a recent cleaning, I received an unexpected ~$23 bill billed as relating to "periodontal." I am not a periodontal patient. I emailed the office and got no response. After two more bills, now with finance fees, I reached out again. They claimed they never received my email and explained the charges were for items insurance does not pay, including "room cleaning" and "oral rinse" (mouth wash). I was told I would now be paying about $51 out of pocket per cleaning. I said patients should be informed of new billing practices. The staff said they had "done their best," by mentioning it "upon checkout." I requested the $23 charge be waived since I was unaware of the policy. She refused, saying the office had previously waived a broken-appointment fee, so they would not waive anything else. When I remarked that Dr. Albers likely wouldn't want to lose a patient over $23, she said, "Actually, Dr. Albers said if you want to go elsewhere, that's fine, because with your insurance he loses money treating you." When I asked to speak with Dr. Albers, she said, "he does not discuss financial matters with patients." I canceled all future appointments and stated I would pay the balance due minus the finance charges. A few days later, I received an unsigned, poorly formatted letter dated the same day, stating that "he" wished to end our professional relationship and would provide only emergency care for 30 days. Dr. Albers never contacted me personally; I strongly suspect the letter came from his staff. When I had asked to speak with a manager to resolve issues, I was told the practice has none--"Dr. Albers has staff for that purpose." This is highly concerning and unconventional for a practice of this size. It suggests there is no oversight or accountability. Given Dr. Albers' age and reliance on staff, this raises questions about whether he is being accurately informed about office operations. From my experience, the new staff appear defensive and at times vindictive, and important information, including errors, may not be honestly conveyed. Staff appear free to take actions with patients, such as sending letters under Dr. Albers' name without a signature. Based on the above, I urge you to seek care elsewhere.

The referral was written in 2019 when I wanted to get braces but I chickened out. Unfortunately, cavities started developing on all the wisdom teeth over the last two years to the point where I noticed my breath did not feel clean even after brushing, flossing and mouth rinse. I decided to come in for a consult to get my questions answered. Dr. Jiries Mogannam provided my consult. He answered all my questions and gave me my options. He explained to me that the wisdom tooth can give me more issues down the line even if I can patch up all the cavities now. His main concern was the oral hygiene of my mouth and to protect the nearby molars from decay that could be spread from the wisdom teeth. He was not pushy, I left informed and empowered to take the next step. Plus, I still wanted braces so it makes sense to get the surgery. The surgery was quick and painless because I was out! I was filled with anxieties the day before and even while sitting in the chair but I knew it needed to be done. I was in and out in a hour. The recovery was painful and that was expected. I followed all the instructions given in terms of oral care and food choices. I survived to tell the tale and I am the biggest chicken out of everybody I know so if I can do this oral surgery so can you! Thank you Dr. Mogannam, the assisting staff members and the front desk! Finally the date came and I went in for my cleaning, by this point I was a bit annoyed, but ok. Well, it turned out I was seen by Dentist Dr. Yon, not a hygienist, odd but fine. She was so quick and efficient! I was out in 35 min total! And no pain, very little discomfort, no sore ness afterwards, I could have dinner well. I also forgot that my appointment when I scheduled it was told it will last 1 hour. The tech when she took me back at 12:20 said oh no this is a 2 hours procedure. I am still waiting for them to finish and is 3:09 PM. The lack of communication and professionalism. I had to cancel meetings because of it. I told them to fix the crown they had installed 8months ago and messed up. I will take my business somewhere else. If you have nothing to do. That's something I haven't ever experience from a Doctor or Dentist office. I went to her because she is one of few dentist in Santa Rosa that can fit you for a month appliance to fix sleep apnea. If they would take my Delta Dental Insurance from my employee, I'd switch to her office in a nanosecond.
