12//6/12 What started out to be a normal maintenace issue has snowballed into something that i never expected. After much searching on the internet, I contacted Just Landscape Lighting (JLL) to inquire about a service contract and replace bulbs that had gone out . The bulbs in my low voltage system were the original bulbs that had lasted a normal amount of time, one year, since the system was installed. JLL came to my house, replaced the bulbs. I signed a a one year maintenance agreement in additional to paying for the new bulbs. by January 2013 most of the bulbs were out. I called JLL twice in January and by February it was once a week. Leaving messages on the Massapequa, Port Washington and Mr. Jay's cell phone number. I did not get a call back until the friday before Easter sunday, which was march 29. I got a call back from another man in the company, saying that Mr. Jay was in Florida and that he would call me back on Sunday night and to let me know what time on Monday he would come by. I said okay, realizing i probably wouldn't get a call on Sunday because it was a holiday, so i waited on Monday, tuesday, wednesday.....no phone calls. A week later i called early morning, about 7:30-8 am on a weekday and got Mr. Jay. He said he was working in florida, and did not have his cell phone with him. His business phone...how do you not have your business phone with you when you own a business? Also, no one that works for him (no one ever picked up the phone, just an answering machine) ever alerted him of my phone calls for 2 1/2 months. Then when i asked him to not charge me for the bulbs that were out a month only after he installed them, (because i purchased the maintenance agreement, also) he said no he had to charge me. We went back and forth and finally Mr. Jay said "don't call me anymore." i told him i wouldn't, but to refund my $147.00 for the annual maintenance agreement, to which he said he "fine". he would. i ended the phone call saying i would be looking for his check by the end of that week. This was about April 14th. 5/2/13 - 8 am: I called him one more time this morning to see if he mailed the check to me. He said "i never told you i was refunding you your maintenance agreement." This company is as unprofessional as you get. He did nothing to warrant keeping the money for the maintenance agreement.
I did not want to write this and I will update this post if there is an effort made to do the right thing on the part of JLL. This is about principle, not the money. read more
