When it comes to finding out about a new business, I either have to physically see and make note of…read moreit, or someone needs to tell me about it. I found out about Eco Collective by TruEarth the latter way.
On Instagram, I received a message about Eco Collective's grand opening. It sells eco-friendly goods smack in the middle of Mississauga. The person who contacted me was friendly and knowledgeable.
The downside at the time was that the grand opening was during my trip in November. I said that I'd drop by after work, as I work in Mississauga and the drive would be easy.
None of that happened. I travelled again. The holidays came and went. Nothing.
Well, things changed yesterday. Over the holidays, I had entered a contest to win a Vesper cocktail mix and a set of four Cocktail Bomb Shop bombs. I found out that I was one of the lucky five winners of this prize package on Friday night. Woo hoo!
I decided to head over to Eco Collective for two reasons:
- Pick up my prize
- Get laundry detergent strips
I tend to travel frequently. When it comes to laundry detergent, I either get a small bottle of it in liquid form at Dollar Tree or I use laundry detergent strips that only come in a set of six or ten. I needed more.
I didn't have problems driving over. I basically took the DVP-Gardiner Expressway combination and exited at Winston Churchill. A short drive over, I found the location, but the unit took a while to spot. When you enter off Ridgeway Drive, you want to hang a left. I did a right and ended up by a crazy busy dance studio. Don't do that!
There was plenty of parking in front of the store. I backed into a spot and entered.
There are two sets of doors that you need to go through. After you get through the first set, you hang a right to enter the store. There was no one there, so I got a good photo of the interior.
Moments after stepping into the store, a nice man, whom I'd later know as Vladyslav, said hi and was nice. He asked me how I heard about the store. I went into it briefly (Instagram, prize, and laundry detergent sheets). He was happy to help me out with every question that I had.
He first directed me to the laundry detergent strips. They come in 32, 64, and a huge box of them. Naturally, the more strips you get, the cheaper the price gets per strip. I decided to get the 64-pack, which would allow me to try them out at home before I go on the road and do laundry. He encouraged me to smell them. Although the fresh linen smelled clean and is typically my go-to for any laundry scent, the lilac breeze tugged at my laundry heart strings.
I looked around this store. Whether you are all for helping out with the environment, or simply want to shop for gifts for you or someone special in your life, this store has everything. You can get earrings and necklaces. There are a ton of different beverage tumblers and accessories, including paper, avocado, rice, and reusable straws. I have always been a greeting card person. The selection here is awesome and the paper quality is amazing (recycled paper of a decent weight).
I found the Vesper cocktail mixes. It's cool to open the jar, fill it with liquid, put the lid back on, store it in the fridge for one to three days, and enjoy it. The tough part was select the flavour that I wanted. After much contemplation, I went with the red velvet sangria, which was the last bottle available.
I had to ask Vlad where I could find the cocktail bombs. At first, I thought that I was getting bath bombs. Nope, there were four cocktail drink bombs that you get in a box. The idea is that you unwrap a cocktail drop, drop it in sparkling water, wait until it's done fizzing, add alcohol and ice, and you've got a drink to enjoy. I had the same problem figuring out what flavour I wanted. I went with lemon drop.
There was so much stuff to look at. I love being at this store. I found a rainbow zipper pull that felt so smooth and comfortable. I had to get it. Vlad also showed me silicone key chains made by the same company. They felt good. You can wear it on your wrist. I was tempted. I may need to head back and get one.
Looking at products differently was eye-opening. Toothpaste in tablets stored in compostable packaging was cool. Crispy cinnamon doughnut pancakes was intriguing to me. I also may need to pick up a pouch and make some.
I was ready to pay for my items. Vlad signed me up for the perks program, which is automatic when you win a prize. Cool! You basically indicate your first and last names when you drop by and you earn points with each purchase. You get discounts towards future purchases. Cool!
I paid for my zipper pull and detergent strips with a debit card. The tap didn't work for some reason, but inserting my card and entering my PIN did.
He placed my items in a paper bag with handles. I thanked him for his help and this great experience. He said that I was always welcome here. I felt it. I'll be back!
