Great service and the food is delicious! I would go back again if I'm in Chicago I would recommend this place to friends and family.

This place is really gorgeous, the front is a small bar and table area and the back is a sushi bar and more tables. Came here after a friends recommendation, we weren't prepared for a $$$ sushi but it was still worth it. we only ordered full rolls this time around. We sat in the back at the sushi bar which was a ton of fun getting to see the chefs plate nigiri and sashimi! 5/5 Service, very attentive and every time my water was low it was immediately filled. The servers and host were very helpful and sweet all around great experience. 5/5 the miso was so yummy and hot. 5/5 tuna roll, the best tuna I've ever had! It's so fresh and melts in your mouth. If you're debating between the spicy tuna + plain tuna get the plain tuna! It's fantastic 3/5 spicy tuna, I eat spicy tuna rolls plenty and this didn't do it for me. I enjoyed the tuna as mentioned above but it wasn't my favorite. 5/5 spicy salmon roll was so incredible! Fresh and melts in your mouth and just so yummy Overall it is pricy and the nigiri sashimi is expensive but they have multiple options for chefs choice to save and the regular plain rolls are so fresh. Food - we went with the omakase and were delighted by all the courses! Our favorites included the barracuda, wagyu, shrimp, marinated sake, mackerel, black cod (likely more and I'm just forgetting). Everything was so so good and the fish was GREAT quality. Service - the staff was super accommodating and did a really nice job at explaining each course Ambiance - clean nice place! We are pretty picky with sushi especially after going to Japan and good quality can be hard to find in Chicago. After 12 check-ins, I'm finally ready to leave a review. I hesitated for a while because this place is truly a hidden gem and I don't want it to be so popular that reservations are hard to find lol. I absolutely love their bees knees cocktail! We typically also get the junmai ginjo. Some of my must-haves food items are: Edamame with a side of chili oil Oysters Seared scallop Juno King and Queen signature nigiri aka ebi nigiri signature smoked sake (not the sake nigiri) salmon trio Chicken wings are great if you're in the mood for something different You can skip the A5 Wagyu Tartare- nothing special. Tried it twice now and both times it has been a disappointment. Overall this place is amazing! Gorgeous establishment with delicous food and great service! We were lucky to get a spot at 9pm on the second day of indoor dining opening!( I seem to be getting into the habit of celebrating the arrival of a new phase of reopening by gojng to a new/revisited restaurant on the day of :p( even though we were running late and reached there at 9:10, the hostess was super nice about it. The restaurant only had three tables in use and we were seated very far away from everyone else. Our server( I didn't get his name , it was hard to hear behind the masks) was very pleasant. He actually made a mark next to the highlight of the menu items he recommended as I had trouble picking. It's been a long time since I had good sushi and i was overjoyed to see so many options( despite it still being covid ) .For appetizer, we got the edamame and toro tartare. For the fish section we picked Queen nigiri under the signature nigiri and The maguro , ceviche for the signature maki rolls. For the nigiri part I picked the amberjack and argentinian red prawns which were soooo good. We got two cocktails and a beer and ended the meal with the sesame ice cream ball that came with some kind of rice cracker crunch( yumyum). In the middle of eating, i discovered a piece of fish bone in my amberjack nigiri and showed my concern to the server. He was very shocked by this ( btw of all the years of eating nigiri i''ve never had a piece of fish bone in my sushi. It must mean that it's really fresh, right?!) He hurried to the sushi counter and brought back another 2 pieces of amberjack nigiri! Talk about great customer service! What a delightful meal. Really good sushi!! Very high quality. Chefs choice Nigiri flight was delicious. I really liked the snapper and golden snapper but they were all amazing. The fish was super fresh, great flavor, and the rice was packed nicely. The only downside was that the nigiri do run on the smaller side. It is $42 for the nigiri flight so a bit pricey. I was still hungry after I finished my flight so I had to order a maki roll. Crudo is definitely a must try appetizer. It's white fish with truffle oil. Really good! They make a house made soy sauce that's also wonderful. Not sure what's in it but I would love to know. Will definitely be back for more. This makes my top 5 sushi places in Chicago! read more

If you're looking for an upscale date night place, Juno is the place for you! First of all, incredible service and interior. The sushi however was just average in my opinion. I got the chefs choice nigiri, grilled scallops, spicy tuna handrolls, and wagyu rolls and the handrolls and scallop were the star. Sushi portions were a bit small but I guess that's the price you pay for a nicer restaurant. Everything tasted amazing but for the price, it's definitely wasn't enough to blow me away. There's so much about this place I can say, but I feel like I can't express it enough! First off, amazing staff and customer service. From the walk in to the door to the experience of this restaurant is worth its weight in gold. The manager, I believe, was way more accommodating than we expected and that was a delight. Secondly, the chefs were all very nice!(I was sitting at the sushi bar) If I could give this place more star ratings I would! We were recommended to this place by the Chef here, Matt. All we had to ask him was just serve us whatever he feels needs to be experienced and wow... we got it. This place has good fish, but portions are tiny. Don't expect to be full after spending a lot of money. We arrived about 30 minutes prior to our reservation and waited at the bar. I ordered a passionfruit cocktail that was very good. The place was quite busy on a Friday night, but we got seated promptly. We started with their signature smoked salmon dish. The presentation was good, but fish was okay. It had a nice smoked flavor, but otherwise lacking. The uni shooters came out quickly afterwards, and quite impressive. Our next course was the chef's choice nigiri and sashimi. The nigiri was excellent. Very high quality fish, well cooked rice, and good flavor. Only downside was the soy sauce. It is their house special, but very overpowering and salty. The sashimi was also good, but I think the nigiri was better value. The portion size was a bit disappointing for the price point. We were still hungry at this point and ordered a spicy salmon roll, and their signature Crisp Sake roll. The spicy salmon roll was excellent. Good flavor, rice, and seaweed. The crisp sake was not great. Overall, the food was good, but it wasn't executed perfectly. It's worthwhile to check out, but you will likely leave hungry. read more

Best sushi in the United States so far (yes better than Nobu and Morimoto etc). As soon as you walk in, you're transported into a dimly lit LOUD, modern chic space. Our hostess had us sit at the bar when there were plenty of tables and sat other guests before us. She quickly caught on that we were not buying drinks and were visibly upset so she sat us and apologised for the wait. Now let's talk about the food. We ordered quite a few things. The hirame and tako maguro were my top faves with Juno king in third place. I typically don't go for salmon but this place is an exception. The server recommended which ones needed soya sauce dipping and which ones did not. I think zuwaigani is probably the only one I won't order again. I don't understand the lower ratings. This is easily one of the best sushi places I've been to in Chicago. All of the dishes I had were full of flavor. If you like Americanized sushi this is NOT the place for you. I'm guessing the low ratings are due to smaller portion sizes. The flavor makes up for the portion sizes. Recent low reviews have it right, especially when it comes to omakase. A few things: we were seated 30 mins after our reservation with no apology, notice that it would take some extra time. Unacceptable. We weren't even offered water while waiting and another party of 2 that arrived after us was seated before us! Omakase leaves much to be desired. Kai Zan is far superior in terms of taste and value. After all the courses, my dining partner and I were still hungry. The size of fish on each nigiri was so small, sashimi bites were practically the size and thickness of garnishes. For nearly $200/pp, I expect more. For one course (the handroll), it was placed down while I was still eating another course! Com on. Overall not worth it -- even the regular menu is just too overpriced for what you get. Mediocre sushi (fish quality and taste) coupled with poor service leaves me with no desire to return. read more

I see a lot of mixed reviews. But I think this is because Juno is getting more popular and more of the general public are going. The first thing to keep in mind is that most sushi in the US is pretty Americanized. You won't find rolls with lots of mayo and hot sauce in Japan. There is nothing wrong with wanting to stuff your face with mayonnaise sriracha drenched tuna and salmon but know that's not anything like Japanese sushi. The sushi in Japan is pretty plain and Japanese cuisine in general prizes subtlety. I was surprised to see reviews calling the sushi plain or safe. Adding garlic to sushi is a major statement for fine sushi. The edomae style here is as close as I've had to omakase places in Japan but at a fraction of the price. Too many people want to say they enjoy "ethnic" food but they want it to be the same as what they're used to. Japanese food has smaller portions and is more subtle. You need to be more honest with yourself if you'd be happy with Chinese or Thai American style sushi with 50 ingredients. If so you should probably not waste your money on the even more expensive omakase options. Love yourself--if you like big portions and mayo, there is nothing to be ashamed of and just go to an all you can eat place. read more

Really special sushi restaurant in Lincoln Park. Nice dining room in the back although it felt a bit chilly. We loved the seaweed - fresh and lightly seasoned. My favorite was the Tako Maguro. Wow. The spicy tuna and spicy octopus making was so delicious it was extraordinary. All of the fish was fresh and the chefs were meticulous in arranging and crafting each dish. This is one of my favorite sushi restaurants in Chicago. Wonderful attentive service - just the right attention, too overbearing. Came here for a valentines dinner and it was quite a treat! We had reservations and were seated immediately when we arrived. One of our good friends has been raving about how good this place was and we definitely agree. The sushi quality of the fish here is top notch. As I was glancing at the cocktail menu, I saw there was a matcha and pumpkin spice one. WHAT. Two of my favorite things. I knew immediately I had to order it. Okay so maybe I jumped the gun a little. It's definitely an interesting taste but wasn't horrible. Now on to the sushi, we got the juno queen, tako maguro & crisp sake maki, a few salmon nigiri, and the uni (from Japan) because why not? And of course, can't forget their their chef's choice sashimi! I was really impressed with their presentation, everything came out beautifully and that the sushi wasn't just plopped onto the plate. This is the last time I'll mention that my wife and I are new Chicago transplants from Los Angeles. This is relevant for this review as L.A. is second only to Tokyo when it comes to sushi. In other words, we are spoiled rotten. Now, on to my review of Juno. First, the setup here is fantastic. Their bar is situated in the front of the house, and the dining is in the back of the house. This works great! The staff on hand are knowledgeable, nice, and ready to help in any capacity. A very good touch, I must say. The menu is an all-encompassing Japanese food representation, and there is no shortage of choices. The food we ordered was excellent, and on a special note, their homemade soy sauce was the best I've ever had. I actually drank the little bit I had left after dinner. All indications coming at me were that Juno is a five-star restaurant - hands down. So, how the hell can I give such an incredible restaurant only three stars? Simple: After spending $175.00 for dinner, we raced home, opened a large bag of potato chips, made two grilled cheese sandwiches, and watched TV because we were starving. Yes, you heard me correctly - $175 for dinner, and we came home famished. Like what the hell? Even our Michlen Star sushi restaurant back in L A. that costs just as much, at least you come home full and satisfied. Now, I completely get that Chicago is at least 1,500 miles from any salt water. This could make a difference in price and availability. I understand economics. But letting a patron leave your establishment dog hungry and at these prices, it just didn't make sense. BTW, on this Thursday night Juno's "house" was packed! I mean wall to wall, so I've got to ask myself, is this just me being a brat? I say maybe, my stomach says, Hell No! read more

If you want to try the best sushi Chicago has to offer then come to Juno! We decided that we had wanted to do the omakase for $150 per person. I initially made the reservations on Open Table but saw the note that if you're interested in doing omakase, you make those reservations by calling in or emailing the restaurant since they have limited availability. I noticed one couple that was seated at a table nearby ask for omakase but they didn't make those arrangements beforehand so they got an omakase-like experience. Take note and call ahead! As far as the omakase experience went, we were seated directly in front of the chef so we were able to watch him prepare the various dishes. For drinks, I got the Lychee-tini which was very dangerous because tasted like lychee juice and you couldn't taste the alcohol. So yummy! The dishes were amazing and each dish really showcased the quality and freshness of the fish as well as the chef's ability to add his creative touch to everything he made. I tasted flavor combinations that night that I've never had before especially with sushi. Every dish that was served was really appealing and I enjoyed every minute of the 2 Hour tasting menu. The boyfriend and I decided to have dinner here on NYE and I must say, I was pleasantly surprised. I honestly wasn't expecting much, as I was slapped in the face with the strong aroma of fish upon entering the restaurant and due to the fact that many sushi restaurants boast of their "signature" dishes, but my-oh-my did Juno far exceed my expectations! Definitely don't come here if you are expecting fast service and a quick exit (we were here for over two hours - which I honestly loved), but do come for the mouthwatering food. The food is extremely fresh as everything is brought out as it is made, and not all at once. And although service is slow, and this place was packed, when we did gain our waitress's attention, she went above and beyond giving detailed descriptions of each dish that we may be interested in based on my dietary needs. We started with the signature smoked sake (salmon) and the presentation was on point! The dish comes out on a wood plank under a dome, and the waiter removes the glass dome to reveal a deliciously smoked salmon dish that fills all of your senses! We then moved on to the salmon trio (not bad, nothing spectacular), and then had TWO, YES TWO, orders of the sake yaki (a delicious smoked salmon with almond, topped with pickled apple). We actually had to order a second roll after the first - it was that good, and I will be craving this roll until next time. THEN because it was NYE and we clearly have no self control, we had the vegetable maki that was topped a delicious VEGAN mayo and served with jalapeño soy sauce. All in all, we had a wonderful experience here and Juno has officially been added to my list of "top restaurants to dine at while in Chicago". read more

Something about Juno just didn't click for me. When you break down the dining experience into separate parts, everything seems to shine. Service was quick and professional; the waitress was fantastically friendly. Restaurant interior was well-designed and clean. The individual pieces of fish were fresh. The texture of the fish was good. The sushi chefs (itamae) handled the food well; you could see the skill in their knifework. The bill was expensive - but when you compare it to some of the other offerings around the city for sushi, it's not unheard of. For some reason, when you put it all together, Juno seems to falter. While the fish was fresh, the menu items seemed to lack "Umph" - something that made you beam as the food rolls through your mouth. Again, there wasn't anything that tasted strange - everything just felt very flat, very safe. The nigiri and sashimi looked to be standard in terms of size (a good mouthful), but I left the meal feeling quite unsatisfied despite the amount of money I spent. Ultimately, I try to point out in reviews concrete areas in which I felt like the business can improve upon. This review will be the (I hope) rare abstract one where the business checks off most off the boxes that should net it a higher rating, but did not get more stars. read more

Been to Mako, so I thought I would give Juno a try and it definitely did not disappoint. The menu was pretty elaborate and there was something for everyone. Only thing is they may or may not have what's listed on the menu. I guess it's random and based on what they get for the day. The tuna and salmon trio were my favorite? Can't go wrong with the basics. I wanted to try the mackerel trio but they didn't have it so I tried what was on their al carte. Good, but not the best. The oysters and hamachi spoons were delicious and I wished I had more of that! Also had the Juno king and queen and didn't really think that was too special. Knocked down one star because it is pretty pricey. I didn't think the flavors and fish match the price of money I was dishing out. However, service is great, drinks are super yummy! Food: 4.5/5 The food at Juno was amazing and very fresh. We ordered the seared scallop which was my favorite thing we had. The scallop was perfectly cooked and had great flavors along with the squid ink pasta. We also ordered the juno king (spicy king crab and tuna) and the tako maguro (spicy octopus and spicy tuna). These two dishes were delicious. The only downside to the food was the small portions and expensive prices. Next time I come I could recommend getting more food. A lot of the dishes were pretty spicy but nothing unbearable coming from a spicy food eater. Ambiance: 4/5 It was nice inside but nothing too extravagant. I am very conflicted to give this place a one star, because I absolutely loved all of the food we ordered. However, the hygiene was awful! I asked for some lemon slices, the server, after touching the bill book and WITHOUT washing his hands, WITHOUT wearing gloves, GRABBED the lemon slices right off the bar to me.... I was soooo shocked seeing this action being allowed in such a restaurant DURING the COVID pandemic. Thinking the bar tender may use a tong, I went to the bartender for some lemon slices. Then I was SHOCKED! The bartender, after touching the phone, which might have been touched by ALL of the waiters and hosts and more in the restaurant, used his BARE HAND, the exact hand touched the phone, grabbed me the lemon slices. An upscale sushi experience with unique and delicious flavor combinations! Our waitress was super friendly and helpful with offering her recommendations (all of which turned out to be delicious). My favorite appetizer was the crudo, and the charred corn was also very tasty. We tried a variety of nigiri and maki, and all of the fish tasted extremely fresh. My absolute favorite things we ordered were the Juno queen (salmon nigiri with spicy scallop) and the crisp sake (unagi eggroll maki with spicy salmon). The presentation of the food was also lovely and added to the overall experience. Definitely on the pricy side so not an everyday type of spot for me but definitely was worth the splurge. One of the absolute worst (considering value), ruined our Father's day dinner with family. We ordered grilled octopus, tuna tartare, chef's selection nigiri, chef's selection sashimi, 4 pcs ottoro, 4 pcs chutoro, 2 orders of king's nigiri, couple makis, and a bottle of sake. We spent a little over $400. First the tuna tartare and octopus were both just beyond salty. I've never seen such tiny octopus with 0 flavor or anything to chew on. They should not be char grilling such a tiny octopus. In anyways, each appetizer was literally a single bite. It was sad for us to each split pieces of octopus that was half the size of my pinky. We each had 1 teaspoon of tuna tartare. All of the sushi (including $10/pc toro) were cut to sliver. Sashimi was so thin that it was see through. For the fattier tuna pieces, you NEED to be able to chew into the meat and be able to taste the glorious fat melt. There was 0 taste of the fish because it was thinner than a prosciutto. Also the rice was very hard and too warm. Each piece was about 1x1.5 inch and hard to recognize what they even were. Both by your eyes or mouth. Maki were okay, but nothing special about them. Really, nothing impressionable to come back. There weren't many quality ingredients in each roll. There are endless places you can go to for way superior maki rolls. We only ordered extra because we were still hungry. For those of you who may fall into the trap thinking that expensive sashimi is supposed to be cut this thinly, this is not true. I've never seen sashimi or nigiri prepare this way anywhere in the world! And they wouldn't use cheap powdered wasabi. The restaurant is such a scam trying to look as if they are a high end sushi restaurant when they can't even get the basics right. If ambiance and service is what you look for over quality of food, this place maybe for you. The 4 of us left starving after our $400 meal. We normally go to Arami and Mirai for sushi but they are both closed on Sundays so I looked for another place to go. We came across Juno. We made a 7:45 reservation and waited a while for our server to greet us. By the time we were able to order, we had been there about a half hour. We asked if we had ordered enough and were told yes. It was nowhere near enough. Then the food came out very, very slowly. So slowly that we were told it was last call at 8:45 and we hadn't even received half of the food we had ordered. We guessed at how much food we would need to fill us up and ordered more. It was again nowhere near enough. I will never go back here. The portions aren't even (each two piece nigiri was so different in size it led to negotiations), the total check was more than better sushi restaurants and we weren't even allowed to order more because the kitchen didn't want to take orders after a certain hour despite not preparing our food within and hour or more after we arrived.
