After driving for 15 hours, we finally stopped for the night, checked into our hotel, and immediately realized we needed food before anything else. A few of the places recommended to us had already closed, but I had read that Junkyard had an amazing pulled pork BBQ sandwich. Since we definitely weren't dressed for anything fancy, I told my fiancé that a brewery sounded perfect. When we pulled up and saw that the place was veteran-owned, it immediately felt meant to be. My fiancé is a veteran as well, so that made it even more special. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted warmly by the staff and told to sit wherever we liked. We looked around for a bit but eventually settled at the bar -- and I'm so glad we did. While we were there, we ended up chatting with the bartenders and other patrons, and everyone made us feel genuinely welcome. After such a long day on the road, it felt less like stopping at a brewery and more like walking into a place full of friends. Great food, great atmosphere, and even better people. We'll absolutely be back! read more

As a car guy, this place freakin ROCKS! Amazing atmosphere and good beer on the historical route 66 I mean come on, their table tops are CLASSICS HOODS Literally the coolest place I've been read more

We stayed here as a Harvest Host and had a nice experience. The service was great and very nice, the barbecue food was SO good and the ambiance interesting as this please used to be a junkyard/mechanic/auto parts store. It went from that to junkyard/brewery/food truck/auto parts store and now it's a junkyard/ brewery/barbeque inside and they might sell parts here now and again. They have it set up kind of quaint and worth the stop to check it out. read more

After hiking nearby and driving Route 66 awhile we needed a bite to eat; we were thrilled to find Junkyard 66 just outside of Grants, CO. It really is a junkyard that started brewing beer! We were greeted right away and had great service for our visit. The interior is fun and funky, with furniture made of car parts in a small bar area, plus a huge dining/event space where guests can eat and drink among cars, parts, and tools, in view of huge brewing tanks. Seating options vary from high-top tables for two to large round tables for eight or more. Restrooms are clean and well-stocked. The hand-written menu offered five house-made beers plus guest taps, mixed drinks, and wine. Food options are simple: BBQ beef, pork, or chicken sandwiches, all of which include chips (a short can of Pringles.) This was plenty for us, though diners with special requirements may not find anything appropriate to eat. The beer was cold and delicious; we tried the Rack & Piñon lager and F460 Hefeweizen. Sandwiches were excellent as well, with hot, well-seasoned meat piled high on a toasted bun. (We caught a glimpse of bottles of Sweet Baby Ray's BBQ sauce, which may be the basis of the flavor.) Heading back to our car we noticed an outdoor concert space behind the main building, with a large stage and plenty of room for guests. This was a perfect pit stop on a hot afternoon. We'll be back next time we pass through! read more

Well it's like this. The place is a GREAT find. We are passing through and booked it through Harvest Host. The place has so much going for it that it's hard to pick what was the most enjoyable. The food! The food was simple but one could tell it was made with heart. Then there is the brewery. Very smooth and delicious. Now comes the atmosphere. For an active junkyard it was done with taste and style. From the car hood table tops to the old cars and car parts around. The music is done right. Old R&B that brings back good times from the past. WELL DONE! It will always be a part of my many journeys to Az from OK THANK YOU! read more

The ambiance was great. Pit stop on our way to flagstaff. Food was good. Pricing fair. Definitely Worth the stop.

So glad we found this little gem on Route 66! We were hot, tired and hungry and Crystal and the Junkyard took care of it all! We got there just as they were opening so thought we might have to wait a bit but we were greeted with a smile right away and offered food and brews! The beer was ice cold and the BBQ was amazing! I had the pulled pork and hubby had the brisket. Both had BBQ sauce on them which hubby doesn't normally care for but it's not a heavy sauce, not too sweet and definitely didn't hide the flavor of either of the meats. The sandwiches were piled high and served piping hot with nice soft buns. The decor is super fun with car hoods for the tables and plenty of junkyard to take in while enjoying the beer and food. The music was at a nice level and it was some great oldies we really enjoyed. I highly recommend Junkyard Brewery and we will definitely be back. Next time we'll spend the night through Harvest Hosts! read more

June 12, 2023 - Route 66 Junkyard Brewery (Grant, NM) We were driving from Taos, New Mexico to Gallup in our motorhome and decided to stop at Route 66 Junkyard Brewery to check it out. We're about three hours into our drive and we're ready for a bite to eat and a nice cold beer. The restaurant website said they opened at noon. We were there at about 12:20 pm. This brewery really is as advertised. It is a former junkyard that has been converted into a brewery. What a novel concept. They have an 8 foot high rolling gate at the entranceway, and there's a chain-link fence that goes around the entire property. When we got there, the chainlink gate was closed; however, it looked like there was a guy walking around inside. We really didn't have any place to park the motorhome, so we had to go forward. When we found a place to pull over, we went ahead and called to see what was going on. The guy that answered said they were open and I told him that the gate was closed. Hold on he said, I'll call you right back. Two minutes later I got a call back that the gate had been closed so the one guy inside could go take care of some business. OK, I said, I'll turn around and head back. When we got there, sure enough, the gate was open. Once you get inside, there is plenty of room to park, so that wasn't a problem with the motorhome and our attached car. They are dog friendly, so we brought our little spaniel with us inside. Old car rims were stacked about 3 feet high and welded together to make a border around the front of the brewery building. We were their only customers at that point in time, and the guy there apologized for having the gate closed. No worries, we said. We're just glad you're open! They have a pretty cool front bar area that has the front end of an old 50s vintage Chevy truck sticking out from the counter as you order your food and drink. They have a bar area behind the counter that has a dark bar kind of vibe with a couple of TVs going, as well as a much larger open lit up area as the dining area where the beer is made with about a 10 barrel system with the kettles and fermenters. They only had about six or seven beers on tap, but fortunately they had a nice West Coast IPA for me and a tropical pinacolada beer for my wife. We ordered the barbecued brisket sandwich for lunch that came with a bag of chips. They have a large commercial grade smoker that sits out front, and the guy who took our order walked over to the barbecue and pulled the meat right off the grill to make our sandwiches. Wish he would've given us our beers first, but it wasn't a huge deal. As we waited, we checked out the large brewery/dining area where we are waiting. It really is a unique place. There are old hub caps on the wall, shelves of old autoparts like AM/FM radios, starters, and an assortment used parts. You might imagine that it's a little dirty and greasy; however, that was not the case. It was a more like being in an auto parts museum. The dining tables are old car hoods. Chairs are made from metal with padded seat cushions. Comfortable enough. They have a pool table and a soccer table. They are set up to do live music and have a nice multi channel soundboard, and what seemed to be a pretty good sound system as we listened to the radio. Both the beers we tried very tasty, so no complaints there. The brisket sandwich meat was good, but the bun was not the most memorable. If you've read any of my brewery reviews in the past, you know I like to collect swag, hats, shirts, stickers, and cans. None of that at this brewery. I realize the guy there was doing everything by himself, so I don't want to be too harsh in my review. Five stars for the beer, three stars for the sandwich, three stars for the ambience, and one star for the service which I blame on lack of staff and maybe a management issue. Overall, I'm giving them 3 stars with the hope that they'll take care of some of the deficiencies. read more

This is an interesting place. I stopped here because my Google Maps said this was the place. It still looked and smelled like an old auto shop. The old waiting room is now the bar and the old garage is the larger dining area, with a few classic Corvettes on display. (Just don't touch them) I liked this place. Several locals were at the bar telling war stories. I felt like I was interrupting their conversation when I walked in, so I sat in the back to work a bit with my Chromebook. I had a Belgian witbier and a caramel-infused Pinon pine, which was surprisingly good. Beer was served in plastic cups due to the covid pandemic. The interior decor is definitely to be enjoyed. read more

Ummmmmm..... Was staying at the KOA and decided to find a spot nearby with beers and food. Oh my gosh..... ummm.... This is a heavily cigarette smoke stinking place and the people working here were sketchy. The bartenders hands were sooo dirty as he poured our beers so we decided heck no to food. It was super dark and grungy in there.... No thank you. read more

Maria was a great bar maid. Good Mexican beer. I wanted the brisket but they were out the pork barbecue was still fairly good.

THE BEST PLACE IN TOWN! Wonderful people serving excellent beer and incredible BBQ. If you are looking for a place to stop, this is the place. I stumbled on the brewery while looking for a pit stop and was immediately impressed by the care that went into the main room and the bar. Then I tasted the beers, all very well done lagers and clean varieties. The BBQ they are serving is their own smoked brisket, pulled pork, and Chicken. They have all the games on TV, pool tables, board games, great blues music playing . . . whatever you want. A++++ read more

Great service and the BBQ chicken sandwich was delicious. So were the beers. The interior decor was very cool. Car parts were cleverly used.

The BBQ was awesome. Pulled pork, brisket and chicken. The sauce was delicious. The brewery is run by a retired vet. The decor is intriguing. Building was part of an old junkyard. It's large and clean with lots of interesting things to see. The tables in the dining room are the hoods from old cars. There is a shelf of old car cassette players. The service was a bit slow because the owner was bartender and cook until his staff came in. There were lots of people that came in at the same time and we were early. The Junkyard also serves as a Harvest Host so there were lots of travelers sharing adventures over the bar. read more

The pork barbeque sandwich was excellent and generous. There was a wide variety of craft beers, and we enjoyef the light Mexican-style lager and the one with a hint of pina colada. We drove up out front and it wasn't completely clear if they were open or where we were supposed to park. It still looked like an auto shop from the outside, but we knew it was a brewery by the signage. The owner greeted us right away. The first room you enter has a bar with some tailgate tables. The second room is more open, has another bar and some classic cars and buses. There are also some games like checkers and chess if you want to have a game while enjoying your beer. I opted for the Pecan Brew to start and also tried the Pilsner. My husband tried the Nut Brown and the Stout. All were good, and we stayed to chat with the owner a bit. He opened the brewery in 2016 and has been doing well. He offers some food options periodically but doesn't advertise since it's not regular. He was very friendly and helpful with the beer choices. It is definitely worth a stop if you're in the area. read more

Today we spent the night in a junkyard. The brewery is located in an old junkyard. They also let people with RVs stay through the Harvest Hosts program. The two people we dealt with today with Michael and Crystal. Both awesome. I tried the lager and I couldn't stop drinking it. They say great businesses are run by great people. That is exactly the case here. I was able to watch the U.S. Open on a giant TV. We will spend the night in our motorhome in the parking lot. The brisket and pulled pork and chicken BBQ sandwiches are out of this world, the selection of beers that are made in house are unbelievable. Crazy Bernie and Tammy the tornado are huge fans of that junkyard 66 brewery read more

This is an interesting local watering hole with an open atmosphere that feels like the garage of your uncle who collects car parts. It's located outside of town of a small town. The workers are trying hard. It was busy at dinnertime on a Friday night. The beer is good, food is greasy and satisfying but don't show up in a rush. It's a small town brewery what more can you expect? I'd visit again, but I love my junk collecting uncle. read more

Ignore google maps when it tells you this is placed. This place was so fun and the sandwiches were amazing, we had pulled pork and brisket and they were OMG good. The staff is super sweet and the atmosphere is great, it feels nostalgic and as if they put a restaurant in an old garage, with parts and repair manuals still on the shelf and our table was the hood from a GT. read more
