I understand that we were over weight, and that's in the terms and conditions, that said, the price we were quoted and the price we were given were vastly different. As soon as they picked up they called and yelled, YELLED, at my wife for being overweight, and not reading the terms and conditions. I read them. The prices were comparable but the kindness and attentiveness was a big factor for me. They showed up on time and busted their butts to get the junk taken away. Super un-thrilled with our experience using Junk King. Would not recommend. We needed help hauling away some old things we had taking up unnecessary space in the garage. I worked pretty hard for two days, bagging most things up and placing the garbage bags neatly outside to make it as easy as possible for someone to haul them away. We called Junk Kings and they said they were available to pickup on the day we needed them to. They explained that the average cost is pretty low and that a FULL truck of junk would cost $788 to haul - and for reference, they said a truck would be hard to fill - Great! We knew there was NO WAY that we would fill up an entire truck. Plus, I had already put in effort to bag things up. We figured we'd only pay about $150 - $250 MAX. Boy, were we wrong. When they arrived, we were quoted $700 to haul our things away!! Keep in mind that it would cost $788 to fill an ENTIRE* truck, but there was no possible way that our items would fill even half of a truck on their own. During small talk, both employees had already mentioned that they had made three pickups before arriving at my home, and they hadn't dropped off that junk yet. To me, that's makes it pretty clear that my junk wouldn't take up $700 out of $788 worth of space in their truck.. We told them that we thought $700 was outrageous and way out of our price range. That's when the driver made us a "deal" that he'd only charge us $450 but we'd have to give both him and the assistant a 'generous tip'. This felt uncomfortable but after going back and forth for a while and thinking about a driveway full of junk that just needed to go - we decided to bite the bullet and pay the $450 + tip. Honestly, even that price was a rip off and I still feel super uneasy about it. So overall, while I can appreciate someone hustling for a tip, I feel that this was super unprofessional of him to do. Does Junk King know their employees negotiate the cost like this? Was $700 really the price he should have quoted me and was $450 a fair price to negotiate down to, or were we still overcharged? Who knows. What I do know though, is that we're super disappointed in the service/company and would not consider using them again, nor would we recommend them. read more

We're moving after almost 50 years in Newark. Obviously there was a huge pile of "stuff", metal, wood, BBQ, racks, electronics, just about everything you could imagine after saving that length of time. We also warned them about a large piano located on the second floor that had to go as well, down narrow stairs. They showed up on-time and as luck would have it, the piano movers were here trying to figure out how to get the piano down the stairs. The piano movers said they couldn't do it but the Junk Kings guys said we can help and talked the movers into trying it. They were successful and the piano went to a good home without even leaving a mark on a wall. I can't say enough about how great these guys were. Driver Lucky GET a 5 star but Krishna gets no star for 1 before I booked I called to get a price estimate and was told pricing was from $420 UP TO $580 for a full dump, plus that is also on the website and it states "NO HIDDEN FEES". Driver picks up the dumpster and payment was made of ~$640 but later Im getting harassed and threatened by Krishna about an exceeded weight limit charge. I stated that I was going to pay later but I'm at work stop harassing me but he kept calling and texting saying if I don't pay he's going to return the junk in the morning that was dumped in the dumpster basically.. I rarely write reviews but feel I need to share my experience so that others do not make the same mistake. I booked an appointment with Junk King for yesterday, late in the day (3-5pm) because I was spending the morning and afternoon cleaning out my parents' basement and attic. I received a confirmation and reminder the day before. They never showed (or called to say they were not coming) and did not respond to texts or pick up the phone after 5. I had blocked my car in with boxes etc so after waiting two hours, I had to move all the junk to go home. I called this morning, and the customer service representative said "I see that it was cancelled by the crew. They did not provide an explanation. Do you want to reschedule for today?" I needed to empty out my storage unit. Set up an appointment via Yelp was easy and got a confirmation right away. Saturday came and I needed some more time to clean it out. The chat system was easy and got a phone call from the driver with a new ETA. About 10min before they arrived they called me for a check in. I contacted this company to take away some junk in our backyard because we did not have a truck and honestly I did not want to have to deal with all the bugs back there. Anyway called the Junk Kings for an estimate, my mother showed them everything that she wanted them to get rid of and they said it was going to be $659 dollars. We agreed and set up a date. Unfortunately, my mother and me both had to work the day they were supposed to come, so we could not supervise. My grandmother was there to let them in the back. They took all the lightest items and according to my grandmother, they did not fill the truck to its potential. They ended up leaving behind a bunch of stuff that they agreed to take and if we wanted them to take the rest it was going to be over $1,000 instead of the original agreed upon price. We ended up renting a pickup truck and taking the rest of the stuff (majority) to the dumps. All in all, it cost us $150 (Rental fees and dumping fees) and some hard work to take what the junk kings should have taken. Wish we would have just rented a truck and did it ourselves in the first place. They really rip you off if they can. Very unsatisfied customer. read more

My wife and I noticed their trucks on our walks around the neighborhood, so they were the first ones to come to mind when I took down our old 12' x 8' storage shed. There were a TON of nails and screws, wood paneling/planks/etc of every size, weight, rotted, painted, etc. Called the number listed here Saturday night, told them I found them on yelp and on my walks and scheduled some one to come out to give us a free quote first thing Monday morning. Monday morning came and they called at 7:50am saying they would be at our house at 8am. Sure enough, they arrived right on the dot!!! They walked around the mound of my demolished storage shed, gave me a quote, asked me where I found them, told them about yelp, got a $30 discount, and we agreed on a price! They ended up coming by my house later in the day to pick up everything, swept up my driveway, and there's no trace of my mess left behind! They got the job done. I hired these guys to move some furniture out of an apartment. They arrived late due to a routing snafu, and they definitely should have called earlier to let me know. Other than that, I was impressed. The furniture was challenging to move because the doorway is unusually narrow and the hall leading from the living room to the front door is a cubist nightmare. Consequently, the job took much more time and effort than they probably anticipated, but they did not raise the cost they quoted over the phone. They just went to work and got the job done.
