This place is actually next the Kingston penintentiary and it is inside the performing class building. It is facing the lake. It has simple menu , 2 breakfast set to choose, lunch with different sandwiches. I chose apple bacon and it is delicious. The scone is flaky and texture is between scone and pastry. The tea is serve with fancy plate which I like it a lot. Lots of bakery I like to try . Since it is self-service , the price is around $18 - $20 with sandwich plus tea. read more

The cafe has a really cute vibe. Our group tried the buttermilk bread, which was delicious! The vegetarian sandwich, however, wasn't great for the price, and the chai tea latte and hot chocolate were also underwhelming. The cashiers were cheerful and accommodating! read more

Underrated somewhat given that its hidden behind the Bader Centre. Really nice to sit outside since its by the water. Ordered the Warm Cheddar and Bacon sandwich and it was quite good. The highlight for me was actually the bread they used. Not sure what kind it was but it was a nice mix of being rigid enough to hold the toppings inside as well as being soft to the chew. Difficult to explain really but it was nice bread. Don't think many come for the food per se but more for the view, environment and vibe which is unique in Kingston. I like this place a lot and its an escape from all the restaurants on Princess. read more

A really cute & cozy café right beside the Isabel Bader Centre for the Performing Arts and inside the Tett Centre! I only got a chance to try their cappuccino, but I know they are also famous for their sqaush soup and sandwiches. They have a great selection of desserts to pick from as well, including cakes and tarts. The best part of this café has to be its ambience! The seating space inside is so beautifully decorated and they have an outdoor patio with a direct view of the water that is absolutely breathtaking. As an added bonus, they sell some cards and artwork from local artists inside the cafe. Keep in mind that laptops are not allowed inside the cafe from 11-2 or when at maximum capacity. read more

What a GREAT find!!! We visited the Canadian Thousand Islands over Labor Day, as a get-away for us from Rochester, NY and our family member visiting from Toronto. This was a GREAT location to meet-up, due in part because of the large parking lot (parking is a premium in Kingston). And then, the very handsome, VERY tasty menu -- all reasonably priced. And wonderfully protocoled, to boot -- masks, sanitizer, distanced, contact-free, plexiglass ... the works! The view, though!!! The waterfront dining and the VIEW!!! Amazing view, amazing vibe, amazing FOOD bcuz that's what we're all about, us Yelpers amiright?!? The menu is simple and rotating week to week; it's a one pager with the usual soup, salad, and sandwich options. There is one breakfast sandwich option too. I had the best roasted squash sandwich (vegetarian) hands down, on focaccia bread for lunch today, overlooking the lake, just bliss... I normally don't opt for sandwiches, I prefer bowls or soups, etc, but the focaccia bread here is absolutely phenomenal--thick, chewy, and lightly salted. The hummus and feta cheese smear combo within the sandwich was also remarkable. There's a variety of meat sandwiches as well, flavours include organic chicken, beef, and pork belly. The sandwiches are $10+ a piece, which is pricey, but I promise you that one sandwich is huge and plenty. If not you can add a soup or salad for up to $16 total. The pastries here look yummy as well - a perfect breakfast/brunch and lunch spot. Unfortunately they only open until 6pm, so come early! This is a pay-at-the-front situation, so very casual. I love this place!!! Perfect place to enjoy a Sunday brunch and soak up the sun! Food: 4/5 - we got there at 11:30am on a Sunday and unfortunately their breakfast items were sold out. I got there buttermilk biscuit instead (2.50) which was good. Ask for them to heat it up a little! Their iced ginger honey tea is sooo refreshing! Straight up bad service. the waitress who was working at 2:30 should be fired. She was rude to multiple customers, and disregarded any of our requests. Will not be dining here again. Overpriced. If you want to pay fifty dollars for two sandwiches go somewhere else. read more

Truly horrible waitress; Some of the worst customer service I've ever received: She scoffed at us, told customers to "move out of the way", and rolled her eyes at me when I asked simple questions. I tried to say thank you, however she just responded with "Ok..?". The waitress treated us so rudely, and would not listen to our requests, we wound up with several things wrong with our meal. What a cute little lunch spot right by the Isabel Bader Centre with ample outdoor seating overlooking the water. My friend who lives in Kingston took me here for a casual lunch. I had the chicken sandwich, which was so big I could only eat half (but I had also ordered the soup of the day -- a sort of corn chowder). Their bread is amazing and elevates any "simple" sandwich. You pay at the order counter, take a number, and they bring your food to you. Easy. The menu is small and seasonal, full of fresh ingredients and healthy-ish options. read more

An absolutely gorgeous café - both inside and out. Aesthetically gorgeous, gastronomically delicious. You couldn't find a more beautiful, tranquil spot to have a nosh in Kingston. Head down King street en route to Portsmouth village and the gorgeous Tett Center/Isobel Center appear with the lake and Wolfe Island framing the vista. The food and drinks are prepared with care and range from healthy options (cucumber and herbed chevre w. pickled carrot and beet on gluten free or reg. bread) to utterly decadent meringues and cookies. MIAM! And the staff are equally lovely - taking time, even if there's a wee line-up, to explain the menu/answer questions. Impeccable. 80% of the ingredients they use are sourced from local farms and food sources and you can really taste the difference. Local craft beer (Stone City Ales, Mackinnon Brothers), a lovely wine selection, and plenty of non-alcoholic options await. The only thing I wasn't as happy with was my coffee but this is a personal preference and most would probably enjoy. I'm not a fan of new wave of coffee beans that make for a sour espresso. When your poison is the occasional double espresso sans sucre you really notice! Can't wait to return with friends and sample more of their menu! read more

Very casual place with a great patio facing the water! Counter service based, the menu is small. Mainly soup, salads, sandwiches and sweets. Everything we had, however, was very fresh and wholesome. We felt like we had one of those farm to the table lunches. And, it was cheap! read more

Certainty one of the view of Lake Ontario from the patio. Best time to be out in the patio is 3pm-6pm during summer time. Had a cup of cappuccino with a biscuit. Wished they had warm the biscuit up a little. It has buttery layers and cold hard crusts. Staff seem busy even it's not that busy when I walked in. Tables were not cleaned and napkins were out. No power outlets or WIFI available, so make sure you charge your laptop ahead of time. Would go back just for coffee and the view read more

Love, Love, LOVE, the Juniper Cafe! It has the most adorable interiors, friendly staff, and food that will tantalize your tastebuds. It offers the perfect waterfront location for Instagram opportunities that will make all your followers jealous, and serves as the perfect study and coffee spot for students and yoga moms alike. My must-have menu item is their chocolate chip cookies, that have a sprinkle of sea salt on top, which gives them the perfect balance of salty and sweet (just like me). read more

My friends and I were very disappointed by the owner's policies relating to students. Despite purchasing beverages and food, after 30 minutes of sitting on the patio discussing work we were asked to leave by one of the servers there. She said that she was asking us politely to leave shortly because the owner didn't like students taking up tables. She informed us that she was pre-warning us because the owner would be by shortly and would be much less pleasant. We witness many other tables of paying students be forced out of the cafe while we finished our food and beverages and promptly left. Overall, terrible experience as a student, considering the amount of support we have given the cafe in previous years. read more

The Juniper Café is honestly a gem of a restaurant in Kingston. Right on the water, the atmosphere is lovely and you can choose to sit either inside or out. Either way the food is top notch; the menu changes often but the quality does not. We had a three of us to split a couple of sandwiches, salad, sparkling fruit juice and tea and regretted none of it. For dessert: a cookie to polish it all off and conclude a very successful lunch. read more

A unique experience in Kingston - stunning views and a beautiful tucked away spot. Sandwiches definitely impressed, the bread was so soft and fresh with just the right amount of fillings. The chocolate chip cookie with sea salt was mostly chocolate and amazing. I appreciate that most of the ingredients are sourced locally - I am willing to pay more for that. The cafe is a bit tough to find, but worth it. I can't wait until summer when the patio opens up! read more

The juniper is such a good addition to the Tett. The cafe overlooks the lake, is reasonably priced and is even licensed. They have a small, but impressive and locally sourced menu. The cafe also offers a couple of local beers on tap (Stone city and McKinnon brothers if I remember correctly). I had the bacon breakfast sandwich and soup. Both were great, and the biscuit the breakfast sandwich came on was amazing in itself. Others in my party had the veggie breakfast sandwich, and a panini. Overall, everyone was very impressed. Definitely a cool place to check out. read more

Had lunch here with a friend and I really enjoyed the food. I had a chicken sandwich on gluten free bread and it was flavourful and delicious! I also had a walnut chocolate meringue cookie that was also gluten free. That being said the bread for the sandwich and the cookie are GF but not 100% I did take my chances and felt ok after. I did however not like the service I received. I found the young woman at the cash and the tall woman with the short hair not at all nice. I tried to kill with kindness but they just couldn't break a smile. I loved the cafe and will go back for the food and be hopeful for happier staff next time. read more

Being that we're still getting used to the "new normal", we weren't ready to dine in, and wanted a seat outside. **Note: to get a seat on the patio, you actually have to go outside to find the hostess and request a table. It was a Sunday afternoon, and they were doing a booming business! But the wait was not long. We had a hard time choosing from the menu; there are a LOT of options! I was expecting a beautiful bakery selection but it was more sandwiches and other unusual, eclectic meals. We eventually chose a burger for hubby, and a shrimp sandwich for me, with a regular coffee for him and Café au lait for me. The Café was great, and even came with a wafer cookie. The service was quite good; when we had turned off the table light and set it aside to make room for the plates, servers came by three separate times to inquire about if the one we had needed to be replaced. I wouldn't go out of my way to dine here again, but I would consider visiting if someone else wanted to check it out.
