    Delicious Brie Sandwich
    Joanna A.

Right after hopping off of the Via Rail train from Mtl to Kingston, we came to Juniper. It is bright, open, clean and comfy. The food is delicious (get the Brie sandwich, TRUST me). Tasty drinks, delicious food and great ambiance. The staff is incredibly nice too! I would definitely come here allll the time if I were a local.

    Chocolate cookie and cold Americano.

A lovely brunch spot that my friend and I really enjoyed. My boyfriend actually recommended it…read moresince he works in Kingston from time to time, and whenever he's in town he always tries to stop by. We got the Turkey Focaccia, peach bbq pork buns and Mediterranean eggs. Everything we had tasted was super fresh and delicious. The soup of the day was tomato, and you could really tell it was made fresh and not from a can. Their bread and focaccia are also made in house, and the focaccia was soooo good super light, fluffy, and super flavorful. The staff was super quick and everything came out fairly quickly. Overall, everything tasted fresh and yummy, and I would definitely come back. I also want to try their coffee next time. They have a cute little shop connected to the café where you can buy their fresh bread and jams too.

They were willing to switch the bread out on the sandwich for a focaccia, which came with no additional cost. Our glasses of water were always filled, and the server was friendly and checked up on us throughout our meal. On a weekday afternoon, the place was still relatively busy with diners, but it wasn't loud or crowded at all. The space is large and well decorated; they even have a shelf with ten different toasters on it as decor! I've been here before and I would definitely come back again. The sandwiches are always fantastic.

It is so easy to relax and simply enjoy a conversation (or get your Yelp review done ) in this relaxed space. On top of that, waitstaff are excellent, from seating thru to service.

Unfortunately, our experience was tarnished by very poor and rude service. We were told the order would take 5-10 minutes, so we sat at an empty table. After a few minutes, a server approached us, abruptly asked we move to the 'communal table' because we had ordered takeout, and literally held out her hand to take my partner's coffee, stating no outside drinks were allowed. She took it and placed it behind the counter literally without any courtesy, please, or thank you. The person who took our original order never mentioned either the no-outside-drinks rule or any restrictions on where we could sit. After forcing us to move, the same server didn't even bring our food to the table, she just told us it was sitting on the counter. When we collected it, we only received the two breakfast sandwiches. The coffee that was included in the combo was completely missing (we didn't realize till after we left). We waited just under 25 minutes for a simple takeout order. The combination of uncommunicated rules, being demeaned and moved like we weren't welcome, the confiscation of the drink, and the incomplete order made the whole interaction feel disrespectful. The atmosphere is nice, but the rude service left such a bad impression... won't be back unfortunately.

Further inspection showed that there was lots more seating upstairs, if you can handle climbing up. And if you walk around a bit, there is more seating, along with another entrance, in front of the bakery side. So it's much bigger than it looks from the outside. Apparently they also have seating outside in the summer. The coffee we had was tasty enough; they sell you the cup and you fill it yourself. And the service was pleasant enough. The big downer for me was the single toilet - in the basement!! And the soaked lonely roll of TP - the only roll available :-( Thank goodness for the PSW who was with the disabled person waiting for me to finish up down there! She got him downstairs and took care of him, and then back up. Some heroes don't wear capes that you can see!
