He has also directed me to the dealer with some issues after diagnosis, and I appreciate this too. Jr. sold used cars to two of my friends and they were happy with what they got and what they paid. Everything was transparent and straight forward. I have found Jr. and his mechanics to be attentive and thorough. No one has ever been rude to me and I was surprised to read this in some of the other reviews. I have spent thousands of dollars here over the years. Unfortunately, my relationship with this business may be coming to a close. I came to get gas this afternoon and no one was visible in the office. I waited about 5 minutes, thinking maybe someone was in the bathroom, etc. Then I decided to hop out and get it myself. A staff member came barreling out of the office telling me to get away from the pump because it's full service. I explained why I had hopped out to do it myself. Note that this staff member has seen me many, many times. When he had filled the tank I said as politely as I could that this was an honest mistake but that he had sounded like he was scolding me, etc. He became even more rude and defensive, telling me not to talk to him and that this was his business, etc. It's unfortunate that after more than a decade of my spending money there he chose to behave this way and to lose a loyal customer by raising his voice and being so discourteous. read more

A month ago I went in to have a slow leak fixed. I was told that in addition I needed to replace two tires. Junior said he didn't want me "driving on unsafe tires". I was dubious as the car, although over ten years old, had only 34,000 miles on it. I questioned the charges on the bill, and Junior rapidly interrupted me saying that he could have charged X, but gave me a break here and there. I required Junior to give me back my old tires which he put in my trunk. I later went for the annual inspection to another dealer and (without telling him why) asked him to inspect those tires. I have trusted Junior's Automotive to service my wife's Honda Pilot for a few years now. Occasionally I have treated him and his employees to breakfast burritos, ice cream and bagels. On Friday, May 31st, Junior ordered and replaced the radiator in our car. After I picked up the car and drove it to my home, I noticed that the radiator was leaking very badly. There were no signs of it leaking during the few hours after I had picked it up. I spoke to Junior that evening at around 6:30PM. He told me to add water to the radiator and drive it to his station in the morning. I put down cat litter on top of the anti-freeze that had expanded to four car lengths on the hill where I live. It posed a danger to the dogs in the neighborhood. The next morning, I got up early to sweep up the cat litter and wash the street under and the four cars. Since I did not want to take the risk of constantly adding water to the radiator to drive the vehicle to Cambridge, I called AAA and waited for it to be towed. After my "free" 3 miles, the expense for this towing was $36.00. I chose to tip the driver $30.00 because I admired him for how he chose to face the responsibilities in his life. When we got to the service station, Junior immediately had the vehicle on the lift, and he soon pointed out where the leak was coming from. He later told me that the "new radiator was taken out of the box and installed by his mechanic 'without giving any thought or attention to a vital o-ring that was missing from the radiator". Since they had the vehicle running idly after the installation, without any signs of a leak, it was not their workmanship or negligence for the radiator leaking, it was the fact that his supplier had provided a radiator assembly that was missing an o-ring from the manufacturer. In order to make the needed repair, Junior had his mechanic remove the o-ring that was in the leaking radiator that they had removed from my car the previous day. In other words, they took out a part that was 9 years old, and put it in the brand new radiator assembly, a part that I paid $401.99 before taxes. When I told Junior that I wanted some satisfaction from this ordeal and for my out of pocket expenses, he told me that it was not easy to get reimbursements from his supplier (World Pack). However, he would make a telephone call first thing on Monday morning. On Monday afternoon I stopped by and spoke to Junior, and he told me that "they had been extremely busy all day with inspections. He assured me that "he would call his supplier on Tuesday morning". On Tuesday afternoon I stopped by to speak to Junior and told me that he "spoke to his supplier and it didn't look good". When I expressed my surprise that he dealt with people who did not stand behind their product, he became frustrated, threw up his hands, and asked me a few times "what do you want me to do?" If Junior had offered me two complimentary oil changes, I would have been satisfied. He then could have maintained his insistence that he was not responsible and that his supplier was not inclined to stand behind their products. Instead, he chose not to hold his supplier accountable, or to even consider reducing the likely 100% mark-up in the $401.99 part or the $309 in labor that it cost to install it. He also told me that he pays his mechanic $25.00 per hour. Note: The work was completed in a half day. Out of frustration I asked him for the number and extension of his sales representative. However, I could not believe that he chose to provide me with it. I spoke to the Regional Service Manager of World Pack who told me that they would have stood behind their product. I also spoke to the Service Manager of the Honda Dealership that use to service the vehicle. He also had good things to say about World Pack. read more

That's the only reason I keep going back to him but his payment strategy is different than any other Mechanic After fixing at least 5 of my cars and being vague for the fixing cost every and each time, and not give me an accurate or even roughly estimate for the labour work and the parts as well I definitely decide to take my business elsewhere, after I sent them a Q5 for just a diagnostic, never ever authorised any job to be done, he hit me up with almost $400 for just diagnostic, no fix was issue. My family has been coming here for years with several of our cars for gassing up and auto repairs. However, after fixing the brakes on one of the cars, we noticed how brown and rusted the brake pad was (one month later) and had no clue as to why. I brought the car to the place where I take my car and low and behold the owner told me that cheap brake pads were used instead of ones from the dealer. Cheap pads can be purchased at AutoZone for $20 and marked up so the customer ends up paying an arm and leg for cheap merchandise. Not only were they cheap, but the pads were nearly run down already and super worn, really? From now on I will be taking all of my family cars to be repaired right over to CarZone (see review) where the service is trustworthy and dependable. I had a bulged tire and needed to change a new tire. Another mechanic fixed it in another State but he only balance one tire. So, I asked Mr Junior how much they charge for balance just 1 tire. He said $20. But when I bring my car over, he did not charged me at all, because I came with a friend who is a repeated customer. My friend said Mr Junior is very honest and fair. Their invoice lists no warranty on labor, unlike other shops in the area. On the phone, they confirmed that they don't have a warranty on labor. I don't even want a warranty, or care how much it costs, and don't see a point coming back to show them the leaking brake drum. Old, poorly maintained Corolla here. Rear drum brakes froze during a very cold frost and brake fluid leaked out. They changed the old rusted drum brakes promptly. But the same right brake started leaking brake fluid again four months afterward? and I had soft brakes again. Maybe my car needed brakes somehow adjusted - I keep popping cylinders two-three in six years (previous mechanic said my cylinder popped out when they were bleeding the brakes), and my front brakes wear out sooner than they should. I keep having this soft brakes problem and no mechanic pays attention to it or knows how to fix or thinks it's an issue. read more

We went to a few mechanics and got a price well over $2000 for replacing the whole muffler system along with telling us that it may be more depending on what else they found. They never showed us under the car what was going on or gave a detailed description of pricing. I had a bad feeling so I asked around and was referred to Aziz. We went and he showed us everything that was wrong and gave the option of what was most important to fix.We saw firsthand under the car what was going to need fixing. He did not force anything but gave a choice of what we wanted to fix. He explained pricing and it was far less than the $2000+ we were given as a quote from another mechanic. I felt very good about doing business with him and WILL DEFINITELY return for any future services. I went with my gut feeling as I have a good knack for knowing when I am about to be fleeced. Advice: get your info, trust yourself, along with getting a good referral. People are human and if mistakes happen it is your job to follow up and make an agreement that is acceptable to both parties in order to make it a win/win for all. It is common sense that when a person has a business it would be detrimental to their success to fleece people so use your common sense. You are in charge and not at the mercy of anyone so use it for the good of all. read more

I took my car here to get my inspection done on the way into town last weekend. The inspection started promptly and seemed to be going smoothly but when I looked up, the guy had started changing one of the license plate lights on my car... without asking me about it. After he was done he said that my car needed the plate light to pass inspection and so he did me "the courtesy" of changing the light bulb. Then when I went to pay, he said it was $39... $29 for the inspection and $10 for the light bulb. I said "that's an expensive light bulb, huh?" and his response was: "that's the cheapest you can get it." I smelled Bullshit.. I had a brake light replaced recently for $5 at a different gas station... one that quoted me beforehand and actually asked if I wanted the change done before doing it. After a little research online it seems that plate light bulbs cost around $1-$2. So you're telling me that I paid $8 for the minute of labor it took you to install the bulb? And if you're going to charge me that much at least be honest about it. I know what you're thinking: $8 isn't that much, suck it up. It's not about the money... it's the principle of the whole thing. To Quote the character Big Worm from the movie Friday: "Playing with my money is like playing with my emotions, Smokey. You see, it's the principal. There's principalities in the whole thing!" After reading some other reviews it seems that I am just the most recent victim to fall prey to this scam shop. If I were you, I wouldn't even buy gas from this place... it would just be contributing to their scummy business. In January of 2009 I brought my E-46 BMW to Junior to replace the brakes and front suspension bushings. That generation of BMW is notorious for having under-engineered front suspension. Even with the good OEM BMW parts you'll get 30k - 50k miles before they break, and so it's really important to avoid lower quality aftermarket suspension parts. After asking him a couple of times to be sure, Junior assured me that he only uses manufacturer original parts. However, within four months my car began to have steering issues, with loose steering feel and vibration, and veered when I braked. I took the car into an actual BMW dealer, and they found that Junior had installed cheap aftermarket bushings that were already starting to come apart. The lower control arms had a couple of centimeters of play in them, which was why the car was all over the place. They showed me the bushings after taking them out, and the rubber which holds the suspension arm in place was completely torn apart. The dealer installed real OEM bushings, and showed me the difference in they way they look, which was significant. Junior acted as if he didn't know he got aftermarket parts from his supplier, but this just highlights his dishonesty: the parts he took out look completely different from the parts he put in. He had to know. Furthermore, I'm sure he knows that he couldn't possibly have been getting BMW OEM parts given what he was paying for them and who he bought them from. And if he were being honest (he wasn't) it's almost worse: he doesn't know where he's getting parts from. Junior did refund me the money, and I appreciated that. That's why he's getting two stars, and not one plus a lawsuit. However, this is a safety issue; especially when it comes to suspension parts. If the part had completely failed, my son and I could have been hurt or killed. As it was, the safety of the car was compromised by the steering being loose. If a mechanic is going to use cheap aftermarket parts to help you save money, that's fine as long as they inform you of this. You have every right to decide for yourself to skimp on safety to save money. I have no problem with that. But Junior lied to my face and told me he would only use original parts. That's unforgivable. If other people have had a good experience here, they got lucky. If you deal with dishonest people long enough, however, eventually you will lose. Fortunately, we have Yelp to help reward the honest and punish the cheaters. read more

BEWARE. YOU WILL GET RIPPED OFF! The guy works like a con-man. "Oh, it's a simple job, I'll get a good price on parts, no need to pay what the dealer would charge, and it's a quick job." "How much will it cost?" "Um, I need to figure it out then call you back.... But no worries, it's a small job." Then over $300 to replace a headlight. $165 in labor. Together with other marginally necessary repairs it topped out at $800. $800 for three simple, non-mechanical repairs on a 15 year-old car. I trusted him and he let me down. Do not authorize any work from this guy until he specifically tells you the price. Pin him down while he tries to go sideways. Do not pay for work that he does without your authorization. And to the previous commenter whom he told that you could get a safety violation if parked at a Cambridge meter with worn tires. (Replacements for which he just happened to have in stock! How fortuitous!). Think about it: are the meter readers doing safety inspections? Take what this guy says with a shovelful of salt. Seriously, just stay away. read more

I initially had a couple of good experiences with this shop, until a recent inspection which deteriorated my trust in this repair shop. We have two cars that get inspected within a month. The first one needed a new license plate light. OK. $18, no problem. A month later, I checked all the lights on the second car before going for the inspection to avoid paying for simple repair. All worked. Low and behold, 20 minutes later, they won't pass me without a plate light. Then, I recalled having the same issue last year. I checked my records and sure enough, the same car needed a plate light the year before. Too many coincidences for me and now I am sour that I paid $600 for recent repairs that I probably didn't even need. I smell a rat and am steering clear in the future! Do yourself a favor. Fast, courteous, informative. Went here for an inspection. (Turns out they have full-serve pumps--didn't need gas, but good to know.) Three of my tires wouldn't pass inspection and the fourth was on the edge. He showed me the wear and explained the difference between checking the wear bar on the tire vs checking the entire tire (the latter is what happens on an inspection). He said he could just fail me, but that I should know if I park at a Cambridge meter or am pulled over, I could get a safety violation. Was planning on buying tires this fall, but ended up doing it today. Why delay the inevitable? He had the tires in stock--same as the tires I drove in on, but offered me cheaper tires when I asked. By cheaper, I mean they were $10 a piece less expensive and lesser quality than the other ones. He recommended an alignment, and explained why. I agreed to the alignment and better tires. I went across the street to Tisan Coffee to kill time. Returned, they pulled my car out of the garage, and I paid. Then he said, so it'll just be about a half hour for the alignment--at our other place by Fresh Pond. "Your other place?? Wait - I don't want anyone driving my car over there." So he said I could drive it and he'd call ahead to let them know I'm en route. Ugh. This just seems like something that should have been relayed to me originally and BEFORE I PAID. Anyway, I drove over (not far), and the folks over there were all super nice (and informative). They did the alignment lickety-split. So my $35 inspection turned into a big chunk of change this morning. I gotta say that now my car drives better on it's new wheels, and I can rest easily knowing the tires aren't going to blow anytime soon. Hey, I got 4 years and 40,000 miles! What more could I want? Would have been 5 stars, but then dropped to 3 when I learned of the alignment being done elsewhere. After my good experience at the "elsewhere", I'd give it a 4 for the hassle of two separate locations. read more

I have been going to Junior for years. I have owned a couple very old wheelchair accessible van with a ramps and lowered floors. These kinds of vans always have tons of problems because of their modifications, and because I always buy them when they are 10 years old. Junior has helped me through a ton of repairs and always explains everything to me. He has also grossly undercharged me for some of the hourly service because he knows the vans are money pits, but that they are hard to replace. One time he had to rely on another garage to do part of a repair because of their specialized equipment. They did an incredibly terrible job and I came back to Junior to try and understand what happened. He looked at the repair and agreed it was a complete farce, so he insisted on borrowing the equipment and doing the repair himself without any charge. You can truly have a relationship of trust with Junior and he will tell it like it is. He is incredibly sympathetic and also respectful - even to a woman! Hooray! read more

This is my favorite service station. All pumps are full service and the gas costs the same (sometimes cheaper) as neighboring stations. The guys are always pleasant and you're never waiting more than 2 min for someone to come over to fill 'er up.I also do my annual inspection here. I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 because they charge for air. It really gets my goose when stations do that. Other than that, I will be a life-long customer. read more

I have never written a public review in my life and this is an important first. We have been going here for oil change and inspection and minor work since 2006. Then, I (woman) dropped off car, told them speak to my husband. My husband was quoted $613 ($325 brakes parts and labor, tune-up: oil change, 4 spark plugs, 2 air filter, fan belt, parts and labor). To think I just asked to check the brakes! Husband calls me, pick up car pay $613. When I arrive for pick up it is $738! Henchman (wrenchman) tells me that husband approved everything. I pay $738, and rush off to pick up my child because I am already late. When we look at the bill again at night, there was an additional $125 for labor. We call next day to discuss AND I go in person the next day. I am told the $125 for labor of putting in 4 spark plugs, 1 air and cabin filter into corolla and the additional $125 for fan belt was in the original quote. My husband and I distinctly recall all those items were in the original quote and that this additional $125 for labor is the extra put on after having given us the quote. Junior even admits that he failed to call or confirm the additional cost. You do the math: $738 - $125 = $613 (original quote). I told him you have no right to charge people more for something not discussed. He offered a free oil change ($25) next time I bring the car in. And what glutton for punishment would bring their car back to this place?! Unbelievable, bad business practices here. BEWARE: even if you have established relationship with this garage perhaps it built to only take advantage of your openess and trust in the first place. I am rating the station for their gas service. Please see my previous review for their "service" service. I find myself stopping here for gas out of convenience. I have tried to get over my negativity after my issues with getting my car inspected. I can almost look them in the eye now. This is a "full service" gas station, so they don't even let you pump your own gas. This is one of the reasons why I go, because the prices are actually pretty reasonable. In the winter I don't even have to get out of my car! But they're not always fast about this, because they just have one person staffing the pumps, and he waits inside when it is cold out. So if you get out and start pumping on your own they will take over. Not so bad, just FYI. read more

I have been going to Mass Ave Gulf for oil changes, minor repairs and gas for just about 3 years now and I have much more compliments than complaints. Complements: Nice guys, good location, fair prices, have done computer diagnostic on my car for free 2x (should cost 30-50), always manages to fit me in to the schedule, actually steered me to a different place when they didn't feel confident with doing a very specific type of engine repair. (a lot of places would never admit that which to me is pretty honest. Complaints: Also tried to tell me I needed new brakes. A note on this topic as others have complained about this - They have to tell you that if your brakes are worn even if they may not really need to be replaced right away because it could be a liability for them if they didn't. That being said they were kind of pushy about it. Overall: I gave them four stars because for the routine repairs and gas they can't be beat. I like having a shop that knows me by name. I refuse to take my car to Valvoline or other such places as they really don't care and most of them are not even mechanics and they charge just the same. read more

THEY WILL NEVER TOUCH MY CAR AGAIN. Check engine light was on and I went in to get a diagnosis. I was told i needed a catalytic converter replacement, an 02 sensor replacement, and some other thing i don't quite remember. My estimated total for repair was roughly 2000$ and that didnt include the other 1000$ he tried to ask for to replace the muffler. He said everything else was good and my battery was perfect. After hearing the potential bill I took my car home because I knew that price was ridiculous. Once i got home (right around the corner) I parked then decided to go find another shop but then all of a sudden my car wouldn't start and I needed a jump when ever I had to start the car. Literally the same day now all of a sudden my car wont start. Came back to the shop and was then told i needed to replace the alternator in addition to replacing the other parts. How was he so sure about that? He just glimpsed at the car and decided it was the altenator. And just started tallying up the total bill like I have several thousand dollars laying around that I can just disperse on these so called mandatory replacements... Something told me that they must have done something because the car was running perfectly fine and i just passed my inspection less than 2 weeks prior. Just the check engine light on but no signs or sounds indicating that my car was about to just randomly die. Took it to a reputable repair shop recommended by family and turns out I needed a new battery. But i thought he said my battery was "perfect"?! Check engine light has been off ever since! No other repairs were needed. Several thousand turns out to be a 100$ job. I wont even by my gas there again and I used to only gas up at this station. Either they drained or swapped out my battery while they were diagnosing my car or they knew it was the battery that needed to be replaced the whole time and tried to take advantage of me. read more

I told them that this was the first place where I've had my state inspection performed and where the employees were very nice.
