Our experience with the Pingry community is one of positivity, support, excellent educational opportunities, amazing and dedicated teachers & administration...I can't say anything bad about this wonderful school! It's a privilege to attend a school like this, but it's not a school of privileged children. We visited around 6 different daycares and preschools and this one had the longest hours from 6:30am-7pm and the brightest and cleanest facility stocked full of toys/books. Ms. Jaime the site director was extremely welcoming from the onset and took time to get to know each of my children from day one. All the teachers are very nice, warm, and engaged with the children. My children really enjoyed their time there. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend to any of my friends or family.

I was surprised that everywhere on the internet, there were good reviews (this last one on Yelp wasn't there at the time). In addition to the messy situation in handling the health crisis, there are more important things to me. Maybe other small schools with substandard facilities (similar to Bamboo Shoots) also are facing similar problems with COVID19 --- although I am not sure how much you should try to get an admin person as confused as the poor Sylvia. However, not all schools are academically like this one. First of all, nothing too terrifying is going on. This is an average school providing mediocre education. I guess that other schools in the area (especially some underrated public schools) are on par with this one. The problem is that when I was taking my child to this school, I was expecting something better than the level of a bad public school. For instance, if it were comparable to a good public school, we would not be regretting our school choice. I thought this was an environment where my child would be academically challenged; provide the students with something stimulating at least some non-trivial level. That is, a place where 3,4,5-year-old children are treated with the appropriate attention (without exaggeration) and, importantly, not with indifference. These are the educational values that, in my view, should be embraced by a school for this age level. Unfortunately, Bamboo Shoots operates far away from any of these foundational education values. Importantly, all of the above are directly reflected in the child's happiness, intellectual and physical development, and overall growth. Thus, in this sense, Bamboo Shoots is not just academically mediocre, but rather a wrong choice a parent can make. I'm disappointed with this choice because, like every other, my child attends each class at school once (no second try, same as in other important things in life). When we made the school decision, we could have chosen another one from several other schools with a good reputation, such as the Genius Academy in Springfield. In retrospect, I regret not taking my kid somewhere else. You can't do much when it's too late.

I felt good leaving my baby with them and knew that she was happy and thriving. She was always happy to go to school and was happy when picked up . I was updated and kept informed about my child's progress in many different forms. I received a daily information sheet when she was young as well as a verbal update about daily life at pick up . As she got older there was a back to school night, organized social events(pre covid) and holiday events for me to be able to be involved as a parent. I was given opportunity's to speak with her teachers with parents teacher conferences twice a year to see how she was doing in more depth also . Everyone was always so nice . Once my child entered public school teachers complemented me on how ready and prepared she was for 1st grade with the knowledge of all the concepts she should have been introduced to. Those comments are what is prompting this review . I couldn't have done it without Bamboo Shoots ! I just Love them and can't say enough to express how much I appreciate the hard work they do for the children daily !

First I would like to cover sexual abuse. Going to Allan's example of sexual assault with Anthony du Bourg, he stated that Anthony was a teacher in the 60s and walked "through the locker room when we were undressed." In other words Mr. Anthony walked through the locker room in the 60s when Allan was changing. That means if Allan in 2017 would be pretty old. Not only this, but all of the other examples given by other reviews happened every 20 years and have no solid evidence. These reviews also state that there are better schools in the area, Newark Academy, Delbarton, Kent Place, and so much more have terrible incidents that are far worse than Pingry's. These claims have a high chance of not being true and there is no school in the world that has no creepos lingering. Considering that there are only 3 alleged assaulters for a school history of almost 200 years is really amazing. Now I would like to talk about the supposed toxic environment. Anywhere you go in life there will always be toxic people. I believe that Menan is just a parent who had a kid hang around the wrong crowd. The Pingry School also has amazing staff and faculty that can support anyone at anytime. Compared to other private schools and public schools Pingry is nowhere near as toxic. According to Allan people were racist and really toxic, the 1960s was a really long time ago and the world was really different. I understand that numerous students agree with me and love their school. For kids cheating their way with money, this is completely untrue. I have been at Pingry for a very long time and I can't tell you how many kids have been expelled for vaping, doing drugs, sexual assault, racism, and more vile actions. Pingry is extremely strict with this and the honor code is not used as a weapon, but more as a guideline. There are kids that got expelled immediately with billionaires for parents and have not been on school grounds since. Faculty destroying student self worth is the topic I disagree with the most. There are so many trusted adults in the school and for the reviews saying that they suck probably got failed and just trying to throw dirt. The teachers are very uplifting and help the students non-stop. Teachers also might favor students, but thats alright because whatever school you go to that might happen and it is not all the teachers at Pingry that do that. Pingry is an amazing school and If it was so terrible then why is it the third best school in NJ on Niche? I am not sure what these clowns are thinking putting these reviews, but is a Saturday night and this took like 20 minutes. Guaranteed all of these clowns are either Pingry rejects or got expelled. The center is a non-profit associated with the YMCA and has the best child/caregiver ratio around. Price is competitive. Most impressive is the longevity and maturity of staff. This is not a fancy technology-centric facility -- even better, it feels like a school. My daughter is now three and comes home every day with new knowledge, confidence and friendships. Update: We had 5 great years of partnership with Peanut Shell ECLC. I have recommended many times and continue to be impressed with how they deliver for the children and families. The school (which has been open in Millburn for over ONE HUNDRED years) is still set in the original Victorian house on Taylor Street. There are only 2 classes--3's and 4's--so it is super small and intimate, and because of this, a very close-knit and friendly parent community. They have an amazing playground which backs up to the Millburn community garden. The school owns 3 large plots in the garden and they include it in the curriculum. So the kids get to plant seeds (which they also use for counting & math), watch & learn about the different stages of growth throughout the seasons (science/STEM), and best of all, harvest & eat the fruits & veggies they grow! The school is very tied in with the town, including field trips to the local fire station, the local farmers market (goes with the garden curriculum), and Paper Mill Playhouse. The head teachers and assistant teachers have all been there for 15-25 years I believe, which speaks volumes about the school. They are nurturing, kind, fun, and truly great at what they do. They also make good company at the school happy hours :) The other major selling point of the school for us was the flexible hours. Kids can attend half day, half day + lunch, or full day, anywhere from once a week to 5 days- you customize the schedule. I have never seen another school offer this. This year for the first time they also offered aftercare as yet another option. And of course they have summer camp too. Between my 2 kids we have attended 4 different schools/daycares in the area, including a similar Montessori school down the street, but Neighborhood House is our absolute favorite, hands down.

Management has also changed in the past year (2 people had turned over in the time we started) and the past few months have been great. I love the management in there now! They also do a great job with different activities and arts and crafts at the school. They've done tons of different theme weeks, decorations, quarterly fun fairs and more interactive elements for the kids which has been cute! The only improvements I'd like to see is more so in the afternoon pick up time. I've seen a lot of the care givers switching rooms at pick up time (so I may not recognize the teacher in there) and sometimes the kids to teacher ratio is off at the end of the day.

I'll start with what is good about this place (not much). The lead teachers genuinely care about the children and put a lot into their care. The staff also take the time to know the kids' names. If you ask questions or raise any issues, the management is immediately defensive, dismissive, and do not take the time to consider their clients' concerns. Not one bit! Are the parents not the customers? Don't you believe you should invest in building trust and transparency with parents? Not close to the customer comes first. Not by a long shot. Our child (age 3) had an incident where she hit her head. My wife was told by the manager that our daughter is clumsy, and she has seen her being clumsy. She is 3! Aren't they called toddlers? When she hit her head, a report was filed. At pick up, I was told to "just sign the report" as the person at the desk was on the phone. When in the classroom, I inquired about what happened and was told "we have no idea. It was with the morning teacher. You can just ask her tomorrow". What? The afternoon was like a revolving door with different junior staff covering, as the lead teacher left before 3 PM. They never greeted you when you came to pick-up. New faces never introduced themselves as "my name is and I'm covering for..." Never! They would say "Annie, your dad is here" and then return to what they were doing. This included either cleaning the room during school hours or uploading photos to their App on an iPad, not teaching or working with the kids. When our daughter started, they had no nametag for her place at the table. This went on for almost a month before we brought it up and they dismissively tried to tell us that they were "ruined" and required new ones. She never had one. More excuses! Then, they made one and her name was MISSPELLED! They are "teaching" her spelling, but they can't spell her first name. It was never fixed. The curriculum is entirely vague and we never received learning packets, progress reports, or any written updates on learning. If you do want your kid to sit in front of a screen and learn solely from a cartoon elephant, this is an expensive place where you can do just that. Go ahead, they are more than happy to take your money! In fact, that was their primary focus. Communication with parents is abysmal! Our daughter's lead teacher, the single element of consistency in this whole place, decided to leave and nothing was communicated to the parents. No phone call. No email. No communication of "since we are losing Ms. X, Ms. Y will be filling in for the rest of summer". ZERO! Complete reliance on technology. Zero professional communication skills. Honesty and trust are paramount with this dynamic. We got neither!
