It is bright, clean, and modern, and a lot of thought and care has been put into the equipment and furnishings. We have done parent and tot classes, unparented preschool classes, and family drop-ins, and we have found the level of instruction here far surpasses other sports-related programmes. The teachers are all engaging, and they really take the time to connect with each child. Our daughter talks about the teachers all the time at home. She adores them and looks forward to going to her gymnastics classes every week.

He started with their recreational program, moved through pre-competitive and into their competitive program. He was consistently near the top of the students in his program in competitions. When he started to get overuse injuries and his doctor suggested we take the summer off, however, Flicka refused to allow it. Since the competitive year ended at the end of June, I followed the doctor's advice and did not allow my son to go back until September. Flicka refused to let him back in, because they were offended that I had listened to the doctor rather than the club head coach. (The conversation I had with the head coach made it clear that my son was being punished purely because of my actions as his parent in making him take a break -- despite having attended for four years without any time off.) From the perspective of creating world class gymnasts, Flicka deserves five stars. From the perspective of a parent who loves his child, they deserve zero. They are willing to destroy 9 children out of 10 in order to get that one gold medal winner. That Soviet-block approach has both strengths and weaknesses, but (despite being born in Eastern Europe myself, and competing in my own sport at an international level) I do not find it a good fit for either my son or a Canadian culture that values each child's health and happiness.

I feel Ms. Kelley's teaching made my older son a competent, capable, independent learner. Currently my youngest son is attending and last year had Ms. Kelley but has Ms. Dyna this year and now I am happy to say that Shooting Stars has two excellent teachers. They have no…read moreincentive to be helpful for those outside of the competitive path since a lot of parents want their kids to do gymnastics and it makes no difference to Phoenix Gymnastics if those kids have been continually a part of the club or not. No chance for those not already part of the club to get into programs. For those already in the program (as we have been for the last 3 years), if you don't sign up for a class in the first 15 minutes of when registration opens you are out of luck as well. Somehow when registration opens to only those inside the club, there is already 15-20 person waiting list for every class, which shouldn't be possible. In the past, their financial side screwed up and de-registered one of my children by mistake prior to the start without notifying me, and then our family had to change our other activity schedules as a result of their mix-up and they did nothing to rectify their mistake. If you are not trying to push your kid to be competitive (considering Vancouver Phoenix has no outline as to how to be on that path or what skills should be worked on), go somewhere else which your children will enjoy just as much, will be cheaper and will actually care about your involvement.

Class sizes are kept small to ensure optimum training. My favourite is aerial silks. Paige, is an awesome teacher! She is strict but also very nice and pleasant at the same time, focusing on precision and safety. I also like that each student gets their own set of aerial silks to train on (that are clean and not smelly!) versus having to share with several students which I have experienced at other studios. They said they would refund 90%, or $460, which we were fine with. Now they say they have a record of that conversation, but "are unable to refund at this time." No explanation, they act like their inability is out of their hands. They also hinted that there are many similar requests they won't respond to. I get that they have rent to pay, but they haven't had to pay instructors for months, and their rent is not my concern, we all have income situations to deal with. Hey Jump, you've stolen $500 from us. I hope a lot of customers see this and think twice about pre-paying for a term.
