Absolutely abysmal level of care if your kid is not on the 'competitive' path. They have no incentive to be helpful for those outside of the competitive path since a lot of parents want their kids to do gymnastics and it makes no difference to Phoenix Gymnastics if those kids have been continually a part of the club or not. No chance for those not already part of the club to get into programs. For those already in the program (as we have been for the last 3 years), if you don't sign up for a class in the first 15 minutes of when registration opens you are out of luck as well. Somehow when registration opens to only those inside the club, there is already 15-20 person waiting list for every class, which shouldn't be possible. In the past, their financial side screwed up and de-registered one of my children by mistake prior to the start without notifying me, and then our family had to change our other activity schedules as a result of their mix-up and they did nothing to rectify their mistake. If you are not trying to push your kid to be competitive (considering Vancouver Phoenix has no outline as to how to be on that path or what skills should be worked on), go somewhere else which your children will enjoy just as much, will be cheaper and will actually care about your involvement. read more

Phoenix is a good place to bring our kids to enjoy physical exercise indoors. They aren't training to be gymnasts here but the focus is on movement and balance. They do birthday parties and we can signup for seasonal seasons. We enjoy it! read more

We attended a birthday party here for the kids and it was great. All the children seem to be enjoying themselves and our kiddo fell asleep in the car from the exciting day. They provide a room for your party which has a sink and fridge off to the side. There's plenty of natural lighting and the room will fit around 50 people. Instructors here were patient and friendly. Good luck getting your kid into any of their programs...if you want to wait around for a spot, be ready for disappointment! I don't understand why this is one of the most sought after gymnastics places in Vancouver for children of school-age. It is over-rated in every sense of the word. The instructors are tired and unenthusiastic and while they have a decent facility, the classes aren't engaging and it feels like the students that are in the recreational gymnastics program are just paying the club's bills and going through the motion. My daughter was in this program for over a year and it took us about that amount of time to get her into the program because of their ridiculously long wait-list (over what I am not sure). When we tried to re-register the online portal was a disaster and getting her into any classes was a complete luck of the draw system, so it ended up in disappointment and a waste of our time. They gave us a date and time that we could go online to register her and we were only able to get her a wait list spot of number 15 even though we registered her at exactly the time they gave us. Customer service when I called and left a few messages was poor as well. No one called back. I had to keep calling. read more

Poor value. We're breaking up! For the 2014/2015 year I paid $415 from Sept-Dec, $260 from Jan-Mar and $286 from April-June. That's $961 per child for a school year. Works out to a low of $22 per class to $28 per class - that's Boys/Girls Achievement which is the recreational program most people sign their kids up for. Classes last 1hr25min, they used to last 1hr30min. So yes it irks me that prices have been going up. Oh and they're always fundraising - seriously, at the prices you charge for those huge class sizes!!! There's virtually no feedback from the coaches unless you suck up to them as once the class ends they have no interest in talking to you about your child. You can see the look of disdain on their faces, typical attitude is I work with your child, not you - oh, you mean the one who pays the tuition? At Hillcrest, swimming lessons cost $5 per 30min session and at the half way mark they always discuss your child's progress with you. Getting a good coach is really hit or miss and generally the newer coaches are much more attentive than the ones who've been coaching for a while. Hint, sit upstairs in the waiting area and watch the session and gauge for yourself how much time the coaches spend with each child vs talking to other coaches. Yes, it's tedious but you're paying good money to develop your child and I think he/she is worth it. At the end of every season there's some sort of fundraising show, that means the last few classes waste instructional time teaching your kids to "perform" silly things for the show whether you're coming or not. Oh the show is not free, gotcha! The recreational program is really there to funnel money into their competitive program so if your child is selected, great, still gotta pony up a lot more cash. If your child remains shunned in the recreational Boys/Girls Achievement, you're just a cash cow for them. And you can see it in the coaches attitude towards the kids. I'm guessing they take competitive so seriously because Canada always dominates in world gymnastics, oh wait, not! OK, then how about teaching good sportsmanship and attitude to all the kids? Am I sour that my child is not in the competitive track, heck no, can't afford it! Would I rather see coaches pay the same level of attention to the under performers as the stars, heck yes! Incidentally, my kid is one of the ones who get all the hugs and high fives. I've spoken to many parents whose kids feel neglected because their kids doesn't get much attention. Be fair, either show the same amount of affection to all kids or don't play favourites! I and many parents have detailed our concerns on their survey forms but you'll never get a response from the program manager. So vote with your wallet and find another gym! Positives: Lots of free parking in the back when it's not baseball season. Phoenix obviously benefits from a great location beside Hillcrest Community Centre. The gym is large and well-stocked with equipment. Hint: Pick less popular days or switch because otherwise you'll understand what I mean by large class size! read more

I take the Adult Gymnastics class there and have had amazing coaching and help from the staff. They have been patient and very knowledgeable about instruction and fitness. I started Phoenix's adult gymnastics on a whim having never done anything remotely like it before, and I've had such an awesome experience. The staff and coaches are so welcoming and encouraging and the atmosphere is very inclusive. I felt completely comfortable, even though I am VERY much a beginner, and far less experienced than anyone else. The classes are great value - you have access to a large, open and uncrowded gym with great facilties, and the coaches are v attentive and knowledgeable. It is a great work out - I'm definitely using muscles I haven't used in a while! Highly recommend to all. read more

Located at QE park, Phoenix is vancouver a best place for gymnastics. Kids can enjoy all the apparatuses in a very large indoor gym. They have all the exercises, very nice and helpful instructors. Also we have been to many birthday parties here and it's fun for all ages. Recommend the drop in for adults also. Great facility for the whole family. read more

My daughter did the rec program at Phoenix and it wasn't great. The class is really large and there are 2 coaches. They break up the class into 2 circuits and then switch circuits halfway through. The supervision was minimal and I didn't really feel my daughter learned anything, sometimes the kids would bypass the different activities and do only the ones they liked. We also tried the Treehouse gym upstairs. For the toddlers if you have trouble with your child they completely ignore you and don't try and help or engage the child. Signed up for my first session for my son. Parent participation is not necessary at this level, but I like to sit and watch on the sidelines anyways and he does not like me to be out of sight. The instructors and staff are great. They are very attentive and flexible. There are 2 options, the bigger room downstairs but there is also a room upstairs called the Tree House, that allows for smaller classes. Located right by Hillcrest, Parking can be a pain and having to circle around, especially when there is a baseball game. read more
