! Yelp ( Google Maps, Better Business Bureau) -- , . , …read more , , Yelp . , , , . : 1 STAR - BEWARE: Deceptive Practices, Safety Hazards, and Bought Reviews If you are considering joining Sandcastle Fitness in Surrey, please read this first. Do not be fooled by their high ratings--they literally buy them. Here is the reality of how George Shami and his management team (Osciel and Milos) run this business: The "Blind" Contract Trap: During sign-up, they force you to provide your signature on a tiny Verifone payment terminal screen. It is physically impossible to read the 10-page contract or the "E-SIGN Consent" you are actually agreeing to. What are they hiding? A massive liability waiver where you sign away your rights if you are injured or killed due to their negligence. On top of that, they refuse to provide a copy of the contract within the legally mandated 15 days--it took me months of demanding it to finally get mine. Forced Privacy Violations: They unilaterally breached their own contracts by disabling physical entry cards and key fobs (putting up a "Scan Cards no longer work" sign). They now force members to download a third-party app, outsourcing your real-time access data to a foreign call center in Texas, USA, just to unlock a local door. Massive Safety & Night Access Hazards: The app is incredibly buggy. I have personally witnessed members--including a distressed woman at night--stranded outside in the cold because the scanner crashed. Since the gym is unstaffed overnight, their "safety protocol" is a sign telling you to call a number that goes to voicemail, or hope a lone janitor hears you. This is a terrifying fire code and life-safety hazard. Zero Accessibility: The facility is a nightmare for accessibility. The entrances involve steep staircases and heavy manual doors with ZERO automatic push-buttons (Power Door Operators). Forcing patrons to balance on a staircase while using two hands to scan a phone app and pull a heavy door is dangerous and discriminatory. Bribed 5-Star Reviews (Astroturfing): Ever wonder why they have so many 5-star reviews? The management actively coerces people during sign-up to leave a positive Google review. They even run promotions offering a direct financial bribe: leave a 5-star review and bring friends, and they will waive your ~$60 Semi-Annual Gym Improvement Fee. It is deceptive marketing at its finest. Save your money, protect your privacy, and prioritize your safety. Take your business to a gym that actually respects BC consumer laws and building codes.

"Good gym but bad management" * The gym has good equipment…read moreand is open 24x7, which is a big advantage for me as I can't go to gym during office hours * Please know that there are too many clauses to cancel membership. I will list down below so that you know (they will never tell you these while joining) * I am a member for 1.5 years. My wife too had joined for 6 months. And to her surprise, they kept charging her card even after that period. On follow up, they mentioned that membership is open ended and it's in the contract. This was never told us while joining * The manager insists that the we have to meet him in the gym to cancel membership. Email or phone call won't work. So you need to take leave from work and meet him on weekdays office hours to sign a membership cancellation form * You need to give a 30 day notice to cancel * Even after the cancellation date my wife was charged for membership. I had to again follow up with the manager to revert it. He reverted that after a week but he was not even apologetic about the mistake * They over charged by credit card many a times and I had to follow up to rectify it. * They are quick to add a late fee $10 + service charge of $20 if the card doesn't work * They charge a $60 annual fee apart from monthly fees. Also a non refundable $50 for the fob. Overall the gym policies and the manager's attitude are mostly money oriented. They want to squeeze as mush as possible through multiple clauses * The manager is not very warm to interact and most of the time his response has been "I can't talk to you right now". I heard this from others in the gym as well. I can't comment on what factors, but he is selective about whom he likes to interact * And lastly, most of the 5 star reviews you see here are for a free protein bar :)
