I've been to Julio's multiple times and must acknowledge that the staff are great--friendly, professional, and hardworking. The decor is funky, and the food is standard bar fare.
However, I cannot continue supporting Julio's due to the signage I saw on February 18, 2025 that remains as of late March 2025, despite community pushback. The bathroom signs were changed to "Balls at birth" and "No balls at birth"--a clear shift from the "Balls" and "No Balls" signage I saw earlier this year. This deliberate change sullies what was once playful bowling alley humor into something that feels deeply unwelcoming to me as a customer. I am straight, with wonderful queer friends, and I can tell you that when a place doesn't welcome the people you care about, it's hard to feel truly welcome yourself.
This isn't a subtle shift--it's a clear statement about who is welcome and who isn't; it's an unnecessary and divisive change.
On top of that, the owner has publicly shared posts for years (and as recent as January 2025) that many would find racist and transphobic. While a few of these offensive posts have since been deleted, they were accessible to the public at the time and are a part of a larger pattern that raises serious questions about the intent behind the bathroom signs. What might have started as "just a joke" now feels far more intentional, especially considering the owner's views, which seem to align with the exclusionary message conveyed by the signs.
The contrast between the staff's service and the Julio's discriminatory, un-funny signs is jarring. These hardworking employees deserve to work in a place where all customers feel comfortable spending their money. read more
