Don't buy a mail-order mattress until you check out Thompson Furniture…read more My wife and I were planning on ordering one of those "bed in a box" foam mattresses you see advertised but decided to drive out to Thompson's and see what they had before we did. Sure glad we did. They had an amazingly wide selection of mattresses including memory foam, coil spring and hybrid types at a variety of price points. I assumed the mail-order mattresses would be cheaper, but not so. Thompson's had better prices, more selection, and quicker delivery than those mail-order mattresses. Plus you get to actually try before you buy as all the mattresses are in the store to test out. Very relaxed, no pressure atmosphere too and Mark is very knowledgeable about each mattress he sells. Needless to say, we purchased our mattress at Thompson's and in fact bought another one for our guest room too.

Just outside the Ellettsville town limits, I saw that this place had "Kitchen and Bath" on its…read moreexterior. My wife has been talking about wanting a makeover for her bathroom (technically it's ours, but let's get real!) I thought I would stop in and see what they might have. Turns out this place designs kitchens and baths and actually had a few rooms set up to help those who need to see real spaces to get a feel for them. Although I think our bath is limited without major construction challenges, I will keep this place in mind since it is licensed and insured and the displays looked appealing. But what really occupied my time here was checking out their extensive supply of Big Green Eggs. Seriously, where I live, it takes less time to get to Ellettsville than it does to get to Sullivan's Hardware on the northeast side (and less traffic too!) One of the two owners of the business came out to greet me when I entered and we started chatting about these state of the art grilling stations. My friend swears by his egg, so I decided to check out what makes them different. Turns out the owner I dealt with has been competitively grilling for a long time and I was impressed that he took time to answer many questions, steer me towards some You Tube videos for ideas, and even mentioned Sullivan's annual cooking competition as a place to buy lightly used equipment at a nice savings to get started. He was SO Helpful! Although I didn't buy one on my visit, I would have no qualms about returning here when I decide to pull the trigger on a purchase. (These aren't cheap grills since they are molded ceramic containers and can weigh hundreds of pounds.) From the business's website and Facebook page, they do encourage making an appointment if you wish to talk design for your kitchen and/or bath makeover. But if you just want to stop by for grilling supplies, they will be glad to hook you up! Review #3494

It's brand new as of this writing, and has smaller, even student-focused furniture. Some is assembled, some are kits. There are lamps, cabinets, ottomans, and a ton of miscellaneous stuff, all new, much assembled, and the prices are pretty fair. We bought several items at our first visit, including an inexpensive IKEA-like dresser, and ottomans with storage. There is much miscellaneous, but all are discounted from the insane original prices to something more reasonable, we thought. It's worth a trip; it's a smaller store, but friendly and helpful in our experience. It's not like an Amazon-return store, as their stuff is both varied and new-in-box/wrapper/etc.

The store was warm, inviting, clean and well organized. Most of the decor ran toward Farmhouse and traditional decor. They offered many of the same pieces your seeing now in boutiques and home decor shops. Cute roosters, cow and pig decor, linens, cabinets, tables, sofa set and few side chairs. Very current decor with affordable prices. The surprise was the very nice selection of cute womens clothing, jean's, jackets and boot selection as well as infant to toddler size outfits. The only negative was the employee who sat behind the counter and never moved. I had questions, and I went up to the desk, asked, then short, blunt answers and she dismissed us. I heard several others with I wonder questions but no one approached her. Maybe it was just a bad day but it kept me from making a purchase. Otherwise, this is an adorable furniture store with cute home decor.

I love Black Lumber. Love, love, love…read more The staff's great, and it's really convenient (just south of Hillside) for those of us who live in town. A lot of Black's business is from contractors, and that's how I started going here (a couple guys I know work with them). But they're pleasant to regular retail customers too, and they have a good selection for basic hardware needs, as well as lumber and other building materials. Black also does cabinetry and sells some appliances (like kitchen hoods). One thing to know is that Black is part of the Do It Best distribution network. Actually, my only complaint is related to that. I sometimes buy yard/garden supplies here and have been disappointed by crappy plastic imports from China on a couple of occasions. But Black was nice about a return I made, so I can't get too irritated. For the ladies out there, this is the most woman-friendly hardware place in town. Women work the floor sometimes. Also, the staff is nice to kids.
