I went in for a haircut and color treatment, but after expressing my issues and wants, she suggested other, less costly measures. I was, and still am, more than grateful that she helped me figure out next steps that were right for me as opposed to my original plan, which would have further escalated some problematic issues (i.e, dry, frizzy hair). The atmosphere is cozy and clean. Joy is extremely friendly, and made the appointment fly by! I've only gone once, but I already know I'm going to be a very, very loyal client. In addition to all the good that Joy does, her prices are outstanding and more than fair. Nowadays, haircuts cost an arm and a leg, yet at Harmonies, the cost was $30-60 less than other places in the area (and outside of the area!). Yet the quality of service is unparalleled; I am extremely happy that she heard what I wanted, and delivered :). I also purchased some products from her, which, again, was surprisingly inexpensive. I also was the one to ask for products, as opposed to them being aggressively suggested--this is something I usually encounter at other salons. If you're looking for your new favorite salon, look no further!

But we would never get to the mani/pedi, we wouldn't even get to the end of the haircut. While Tiffany was cutting my hair I noticed she had cut a layer on one side of my hair about 2 fingers shorter than the other. I simply asked if she could even it out. She became immediately incensed. She thrust the scissors towards me and told me to cut it myself. I have never been treated so brashly it was shocking. I am NOT a rude person and have worked in the service industry myself and I can definitely appreciate that the public can be difficult so I strive to treat service workers with respect. I thought maybe she was having a bad day and gave her the benefit of the doubt but my attempts to placate her were ignored and she curtly informed me she never wanted to cut my hair again. All this I could understand if I yelled at her or treated her unkindly but the way she snapped so suddenly was alarming. I paid for the unfinished cut and even tipped generously to try to end the interaction with some feelings of good will but I'll never return.

It's really a special treat to see beautiful arts hanging on the wall of a local Bamboo Hair + Body. The location is convenient, right off Main Street of down town Half Moon Bay. I love the vibrant colors of her paintings. My photos do not reflect how unbelievable her creativity and her color work of her arts. I highly recommend to come and see her paintings with your own eyes. I appreciate her nature capture in still arts. I feel happy and inspired looking at her beautiful bright colorful paintings. Her creation is unique, special and rare! Her arts, especially those with the hummingbirds inspire me to love, to hope, and to be happy and creative. Her work on my hair was also impressive - I wanted my hair half up/half down but was worried that the high winds at our ceremony site might ruin it. It turned out to be perfectly fine though, and my curls lasted throughout the entire night. As some other reviewers have mentioned, her husband helps with communications and bookings, and finalizing things with him may take a few tries. Luckily I found working with him to be fine, particularly when I switched over to texts for smaller inquiries, and as long as I was careful to double check details. The assistant she brings with her varies and some seem to be better than others (assistant for my friend's wedding was good, while the one for my wedding seemed to be less proficient at doing hair). However, Kary will step in and provide assistance / guidance where needed. Overall, I had a fantastic experience with Kary. She goes above and beyond for a HMUA; she'll even help with your dress for portraits and does constant touch ups until she leaves. She's so so so great that I promise you just need to book her, you won't regret it!

I was really happy with my looks throughout the event and Kary was attentive throughout, really glad to have hired her. During the makeup trial she listened to my needs and took times to try multiple styles and looks until I'm comfortable with my choices. Her makeup style is very beautiful and natural at the same time, she has a great understand of Asian features. I felt very beautiful. During the event she stayed around for almost the whole ceremony to reception, helping with touch ups and outfit/look changes. She was also great with my mother and bridesmaids, patient and giving styling support when my mom had questions. However I think there's room for improvement in her team. The second HMU she brought with her to help with the other half of my bridesmaids was not as good. My bridesmaid mentioned that her side bun constantly fell out and after asking to be fixed multiple time they just ended up fixing it themselves. The second HMU also didn't seem to have the same joy as Kary and wasn't too friendly. Outside of that, Kary's husband Eugene does all her booking, scheduling and communications. Have some patience for him to get back to you and double check the booking times as I experienced some mixed up during the trial booking. Overall I would definitely recommend working with Kary for your makeup, you will not regret it, she really took good care of me.
