Part of my treatment plan includes hydrotherapy, a form of massage some might describe as torture: alternating hot and cold towels on the front of the body for 30 minutes and again on the back. Some therapists may not be able to pull such a maneuver off without scaring some of their clients away, but Alsia is a star. Alsia Soiset has been providing massage for quite a few years, including time she spent in Beverly Hills working for some famous, and famously difficult, people. She is not only an extraordinarily gifted therapist, but she is also caring and very, very funny (paraphrased at my appointment today: "If I'm going to torture you, I should also make you laugh"). As part of the staff at New Health Medical Center, Alsia works with patients referred to her by clinicians, but also takes on her own clients. According to her business card, she offers, "deep tissue, cranial sacral, pregnancy, lymphatic, and hot stone massage." Prices at the clinic are $75 per hour for hydrotherapy and mud pack therapy, and $65 for massage therapy. Major bonus: Alsia accepts a variety of insurance plans, yay! She currently works on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays, with up to five appointments per day. If you're looking for a new therapist and you live in the Edmonds area or do not mind driving there, try scheduling an appointment with Alsia. She's fantastic.

The massage table is heated and very comfortable. Alsia's touch is firm but gentle, and I felt like she really knew what she was doing. If you have FSA and need to use the funds before EOY, this is the place! We met with Emily and she was so nice and patient with our questions! She gave us the BEST massages ever, full body. Neck, back area and the backs of our thighs, legs and feet. When it came to the front, she only did my front neck, shoulders, arms and thighs, legs and feet so nothing with the upper chest. It was definitely what we needed! Who knew my thighs and legs needed it. Even massaged our fingers! She explained the oil used as well as an equivalent to icy hot which helps to soothe and relax the muscles a bit. It really helped with my shoulder pain and neck. The massage place partners with a skin clinic and naturopathic. It was really nice and we will come back soon!

I was thankful that was there was an elevator as I had recently injured my knee, and that was the reason for my seeking out massage services.

However, they clearly were not licensed massage therapists, which is what I expected from the website. My wife and I signed up for couples deep tissue massages. What we got instead was a general rub-down with some pretty good hand and foot work. My masseuse spoke literally no English. My wife's masseuse spoke some English and translated what I said to Chinese. This made it impossible to get a massage that focused on the muscle groups that needed it. There was also pressure to pay with cash instead of a credit card, which I didn't appreciate. I wonder if ownership of this business has changed at some point.

The massage itself was okay, although somewhat inconsistent. Toward the end, my neck was stretched and turned farther than was comfortable, and it felt like it was overstretched. It's been a miserable time with the back pain, neck pain, and increasing frequency in migraines. I came here after having gone to a different massage therapy place for 3 months and saw no improvement. I took a break, and then decided to find another massage therapist. I ended up trying Maureen out because she takes my health insurance, and OMG I cannot believe my phenomenal luck in crossing paths with her. She is hands down the best massage therapist I've ever encountered. She's absolutely amazing because she can really feel your body and knows precisely where every part of your body is: every muscle, ligament, attachment, trigger points, everything. I'm not just speaking of knowledge of the anatomy, which she obviously has, but that her hands are sensitive enough to actually feel where every piece is, identify the issues, and work at just the right amount of pressure to begin correcting problems. I've been to many massage therapists who ended up hurting me because they couldn't actually feel my body and just applied cookie cutter techniques. Sometimes they even massaged my bones--why, I have no idea. I'm just lucky that they didn't inflict permanent damage with what they did. With Maureen, there's none of that sort of frustration to deal with. From the very beginning, she does a very comprehensive evaluation instead of just diving into a massage like every other place I've been to. Every following massage I've had with her has proven that she is truly talented at her work. To top it all off, she's got a super down-to-earth personality and is genuinely caring. I trust her with my care 100%. Her massage for me is corrective, so just understand that I'm not describing something like what you'd find at a spa for a relaxing girl's day out. It's only been about about a month and half since I started seeing her, but I am feeling so much better that I'm actually surprised. My migraines have finally started to decrease, so I'm super relieved. Maureen also has certifications displayed on the wall that show she's pursued education beyond the norm I've seen for most other massage therapists, in areas such as athletic training and sports therapy. Overall, she's the perfect package!
