Today was that day, Helen was the one who made it happen. I was originally scheduled for a new customer appointment with Meghan and we had to move the appointment. I mention this because Meghan was incredible during our rescheduled communications and recommending Helen for the new time and based on what I wanted. So, I went in to meet Helen today. Helen listened to (and looked at) what I wanted to achieve and told me what would be needed to get there. She was detailed, confident, and so knowledgable -- I could not have felt I was in better hands. I knew even as she started I'd finally land where I wanted with my color. I'm thrilled with my hair and also that I finally found somewhere and someone I'd like to go back to! Finally, Meghan, Helen, and team have created a beautiful environment. Sunny Bunny is by far the most relaxing and comfortable salon that I have had the pleasure of being a client at.

I almost never write reviews for haircuts, but I was genuinely impressed by Masa's work. I've worn…read moredifferent versions of a bob for the past four or five years and have had my hair cut by several stylists, including Japanese stylists in Asia, so I've become quite sensitive to small differences in shape and proportion. Masa was extremely careful and focused throughout the haircut. I told him that I like some outward movement, don't like an overly round or "mushroom" shape, and that my hair has some natural wave. He translated that into a cut that feels very natural and very much like me. What impressed me most is that I actually liked the haircut even more after washing and drying it myself. My natural texture came back, and the shape still worked beautifully without an iron or elaborate styling. The salon is simple and quiet, and Masa is very understated, but his sense of proportion and craftsmanship are excellent. I'm very happy I found him.

I wish I had found Senju Salon years ago…read more Masa and his wife run the salon, and from the moment you walk in, you can tell they genuinely care about their clients. Masa is incredibly kind and polite. He isn't the kind of hairstylist who chats nonstop, but he's thoughtful, professional, and clearly takes pride in his work. Meanwhile, his wife was chatting with another client nearby, and the two of them were laughing together the whole time. It made the salon feel warm, relaxed, and genuinely welcoming. The first time I went, he asked if I had a photo of the haircut I wanted. I didn't. I know there are Japanese hairstyle websites out there, but as someone who isn't Japanese, I had no idea where to find the kind of reference photo he was talking about. Even so, he gave me a great haircut. The second visit was what really won me over. This time I described what I wanted instead of showing a photo, and Masa made it happen. Throughout the haircut, he checked in with me about the length of my bangs, how much layering I wanted, what he thought would suit my hair, and how much length we could comfortably remove from the back. I have chin-length, extremely straight hair, which is super low-maintenance but completely unforgiving of mistakes. If one side is even a little longer than the other, everyone can tell. Masa nailed it. I got so many compliments afterward. One friend even joked, "At least it's even this time!" which says a lot after my previous haircut elsewhere somehow ended up with one side noticeably longer than the other, and not in an intentional way. Yes, Senju Salon costs more than some places, but I've learned that paying less isn't a bargain if you spend the next two months looking in the mirror wishing your hair looked different. When I can, I'd rather pay a little more for a haircut that makes me happy every single day. I'll be recommending Senju Salon to anyone who asks. Finding a hairstylist you trust is surprisingly hard. I'm just glad I finally found mine.

CONTEXT: I'm a grad student in the area and have been to a variety of salons and barbershops,…read moreincluding Andre Hair Salon, La Flamme Barber Shop, ASA Hair Design, and Alfred Harvard Square Salon. Regarding haircuts, HairTheory Studio tops them all. I am graduating in a month and wanted THE BEST. Lauren (my stylist) provided that. WHY? Because Lauren is talented and approaches her work like an artist. Specifically, she carefully scrutinizes your hair, critically listens to want you want, and patiently cuts, evaluates, cuts, evaluates, and so on, unveiling a great cut underneath the original mess. The level of attention to detail exceeded my own, and I came to Lauren with a printed out "haircut game plan" (yes, I'm crazy)!! All you men** out there looking for a stylist, go to Lauren! She pointed out so many things about my previous cuts, such as the fact that my part was SLIGHTLY off. No one above at the other barbershops/salons caught it. And that slight correction changed my look a great deal. To sum up my experience with Lauren, I left my appointment with her feeling inspired. Have you ever felt that way leaving a HAIR CUT?! I was inspired not just by the cut itself (I am SO happy with it), but by the conversation. For those of you who are introverts and would rather chill, I suspect Lauren would go with the flow and support that, too! Thank you, Lauren!! **If you're a woman, I'm sure she does an equally bang-up job, but since I'm a man, I can only speak from that experience

This was the first salon to actually go "oh yeah we can do a vivid color on you!" For years I've been told my hair is too dark and to just do a subtle chocolate brown. I'm loyal to this salon now! I came to her with absolutely no idea of what I wanted and asked her to do what she thought would look best. The color she picked was one I never would have thought of for myself but is the exact color I needed. The way it brightens up my face and brought life to me is unbelievable. The blend, dimension, and tones are absolutely stunning. If you're looking for an amazing colorist who truly knows balayage and leaves you feeling obsessed with your hair, stop searching and book with Balayage Bar. She took the time to really listen to what I wanted, explained every step of the process, asked for my input throughout, and gave me tips to help keep my hair healthy and vibrant long after my appointment. On top of that, Christine has an amazing personality and is a joy to spend time with. The salon itself is also such a vibe - cozy, stylish, and located in a great area. Highly recommend!

I emailed the salon to get an explanation, and this is what I received back: HI Leslie, It's confusing to hear that you are bothered by the price of your services today. The pricing is based on services rendered and very straightforward. We would never charge extra if you were sitting "longer than necessary" and I would also be curious what you are basing timing on. We don't typically give a step by step quote... we use our professional judgement on what your hair needs to look its best. I would recommend letting your stylist know budget restrictions before the appointment to make sure we can accomplish that goal. Best, Megan Brennan Essentials Salon

I had trimmed my…read morehair at home during the COVID pandemic and because I hadn't gotten a cut in about a year, my hair needed some TLC. Marguerite did an awesome job listening to what I wanted, looking at a photo of a previous cut, and carefully trimming my hair to the desired length. I ended getting about 5 inches cut off and instead of cutting it all off at once, she cut it once and then asked me if it was the right length or if I wanted it shorter. Which is my favorite thing that hair stylists do, rather than cutting it all off and asking if it is too short. I'm so incredibly happy with my hair cut and to top it all off, the prices were super reasonable, as well. Thanks, Marguerite!

Not happy with how my highlights came out. I just wanted basic highlights on my dark blonde hair,…read morebeen getting them for many years, 2-3x a year. I had booked an appointment for a full foil. I was early and the stylist was late. She told me I didn't need a full foil, so we did a partial foil instead. Unfortunately it didn't come out well. First, the whole foiled section is much lighter than the back/bottom portion of my hair (so really I did need a full foil and should've pushed back on that?). I have never had such a stark contrast between the foiled and unfoiled portions... it looks pretty bad when my hair is up, and as a mom, that is basically all the time. Second, some of the highlights themselves are uneven, being super bright (almost white) closest to my roots in a few spots. Never had this happen before, either. I tried to schedule a correction, but they said I would have to pay to get the bottom foiled as that wouldn't count as a correction. Fair enough per the technical definition... but my hair just doesn't look good overall and that would be the only clear fix from my perspective, since you can't darken bleached hair. Oh well. That was a huge expense. I definitely will not return. Haircut was fine! Though they did also blow it out some after I specifically said I didn't want it (for my schedule and for sensory reasons).
