I ended up with a watermelon beet juice special, ginger shot, green espresso with cacao and goji berry, the radishio tacos with house made vegan chicken and a sweet potato waffle with pistachio butter. Everything was absolutely amazing, delicious and fresh. I sat outside in the super cute patio area and felt like I was in Italy. Very quiet and relaxing off the street. Make sure you walk halfway on Oakes St between Division and Commerce, this place is not on the corner. Ring the doorbell for a private entry - almost like a speak easy! Juice by J is much more than juice. It's a charming, unique eatery that serves delicious food in addition to refreshing juices. Everything served in the restaurant happens to be vegan, but the flavors are so delectable and the presentation so artful that it is sure to please the senses of anyone, regardless of their food preferences. The owner, Joan, is such a delight and welcomed us like family. She asked us what we were up to for the day and recommended juices that would be optimal based on level of activity. She is very knowledgeable about the health benefits of all the ingredients she uses. While the juices are listed on the menu, the food is not. The reason is because she uses organic, seasonal ingredients so the offerings change frequently. We had the Sweet Potato Waffle and the Vegan "Burger". They were both incredible. The complexity of flavors, the texture of the waffles, the freshness of the ingredients all came together in each delightful bite. The bun of the burger was also a waffle, which created a base for the jackfruit "meat" that was bursting with flavor. Because we were sharing, Joan so sweetly divided the meals. For dessert, we had a wonderful Vegan Vanilla Custard with Mung Bean Cocoa Nib Waffle. They were the perfect pair to contrast the silky smooth custard with the chewy texture of the waffle. Everything, from start to finish, was a wonderful experience for us! There is seating inside as well as outside in an adjacent, private courtyard. Street parking is metered, takes coins or the MOTU parking app. A parking structure is also a short distance away. Grand Rapids is so fortunate to have this delicious, healthy and unique restaurant! We just went to Juice By J for the first time this morning and got to meet the lovely Joan. She was so kind, welcoming and helpful in guiding us to pick the best juice for our needs this morning. Everything was fresh, the fruit was organic, the juice tasted great and the ambiance was cozy, hospitable plus she taught us about the juices she served. Joan is incredible! Immediately as we walked in she was so welcoming. The shop was clean and very cute, you can draw on the tables with chalk as you wait. We started with ginger shots and then had the coconut butterfly pea (not sure the official name) juice was yummy- reminded me of chai! We also tried a newer item- her version of donut holes with chocolate and vanilla bean sauces. So so good and good for you!! The food is wow. It is amazing and the service was fabulous considering just 2-4 people work the whole thing. I liked the green celery detox juice and the caring carrot apple juice. The Hawaiian Hula is fabulous as well. I mostly love the food. The juice is great if you are not going to eat. I was going to eat so I did not finish the juice. The food is very filling. The juice is very filling. I love the napkins and the other friendly customers. They do have a juice cleanse program. I have not tried it. I am sure it is equal, if not better to the occasional juice. The waffles are delish. The food that is the second option, or cold option, is so great to eat on a hot day. Even if it is not hot it is so very good to eat. The menu for food is like 2-3 options. The waffles which can be sweet and savory. Then the second option which is just savory. The third option which is sweet. Her food is epic. Healthy and for people with allergies which makes it easier for people who are complex and unique. And vise versa, for people who are not healthy, but want to try something new and she is willing to change her recipes for you.
