We wanted an indie designer to create a custom thistle motif wedding suite (I live in Scotland, my now-husband is Scottish, the wedding was in Scotland and the thistle is the national flower) and "logo" we could also use for other items such as cocktail napkins and the like. Her thoughtful design set a tone of anticipation and were not only beautiful to look at but felt lovely to the touch with the letterpressing and creamy, substantial paper. Hannah sold us the vector file for the custom logo/crest design she created for us to use on those other items as we wished. She's not only very creatively talented, she's also great at listening to the needs and wants of a client as well as reading people to offer her own suggestions to make the finished work that much more special. She's warm, detail-oriented and great at communication. For custom work, we were very happy with the overall value we received relative to how talented she is. The design, color scheme, creamy and substantial paper, letter pressing...all beautiful and cohesive. Months later we're still getting compliments on the beautiful suite (including programs and menus) she designed for us. Admittedly it was a bit more than we were looking to spend on wedding invitations. But we got just what we wished for and it was great value for the quality.

I outlined to Jon what i was looking for, and he immediately knew what to show me. He brought out several bundles (called "schloppins") of feathers in varying sizes and colors. He nailed it on the head. He offered to steam out the schloppins of feathers and have them ready for me later that day, as I was leaving on a flight. Two hours later I had a text and a voicemail letting me know my order was ready! They looked great when I first saw them, but after he worked his magic they were FABULOUS! I only bought three types of feathers to get an idea if they would work for the costume we're building; he said to just call if we needed more and he'd ship whatever we needed. (I'm in Chicago.) Don't forget to ponder what's hanging in the hallway ... everything from clippings of clients to amusing signs that will make you smile. I asked if one photo was of Frank Marino, a female impersonator in Vegas who does Joan Rivers ... Jon smiled and said "No, that *is* Joan Rivers, she bought feathers here!" To be honest, I hadn't really given sewing much thought as I don't have a machine myself, but it sounded like a fun activity to do with a friend. I consider myself a creative type and let me tell you, this experience has awakened my inner seamstress! Jennifer welcomed us each at the door and directed us to the studio, where she has designed a beautiful, warm and charming environment. With enough room for about 8 or so students to work comfortably on shiny new machines. We were invited to coffee and tea and began working on our projects right away as she had each piece pre-cut and ready to go. Because of the small one-on-one feel to the class, it didn't matter that I was a beginner and others in the class had more experience with a machine, Jennifer was patient, clear in her instruction and always encouraging. We had a guest teacher from one of my favorite sewing blogs who flew in from TN to teach at Workroom Social's gorgeous and well-equipped sewing studio and she was terrific, as well. Workroom Social provides nearly everything you'll need for their classes, including muslin samples of whatever garment you are constructing to try on ahead of time. Jennifer even had the pattern cut out to save time for us students. The teaching style is positive and encouraging, Jennfier and Lauren (guest teacher) were patient enough to repeat certain instructions to me several times until I was able to complete my pants. The studio itself is bright, airy, roomy, well-decorated and accomodating. There are mirrors to aid with observing fit issues and everyone pitched in to help us take fitting notes while we tried on various samples. Jennifer offers coffee and snacks throughout the day and it's not a regular old box o'joe - she actually brews you coffee, tea or expresso and serves it to you in cute vintage tea cups! Her attention to detail is flawless! Lunch and snacks come from local eateries and varied by the day. Jennifer checks with students prior to ordering meals to avoid food allergies and general distastes. She concocts awesome cocktails for the end of the day so everyone can unwind and chat for a bit before heading home. This class was truly fun for so many reasons! Everyone was down to earth and sweet, I can't wait to come back and take more classes! Jennifer's family (her husband and super sweet puppydog) are also great and greet everyone to make you feel at home. We got awesome goodie bags with some high quality sewing tools and a brand new pattern of the garment we were working on, too. I took a vintage cowboy hat to Holly for restoration, and she did an excellent job…read more It was kind of tricky; this is a 60s black beaver hat that's lost its nap in places, has stains in others. The sweatband inside was literally hanging by a thread, and other milliners had said it would probably have to be replaced with grosgrain ribbon--which wouldn't have been a total deal-breaker, but I like having the original band that says "4XXXX BEAVER" in it. She freshened it up so the felt looks new and velvety; the best thing is that she had a real light touch in doing it. It basically looks the same, but now it might last fifty more years!

I made an appt, showed her my dress and hairstyle and we tried on a few head pieces. I took a few days to think abt it and visit another person/shop just to make sure I knew what I wanted.
