New Mexican place in B-town? Yes, there is. And like every other Mexican place in town, it's a bit of a mixed bag. The positives include a friendly waitstaff, a clean dining room that manages to be both lively and homey, the ability to order actual spicy salsa with your chips, and pleasant main courses overall. I had the pork tips, and they were cooked nicely --- very tender, if not quite as flavorful as other pork tips I've had in town. The beans and rice took nothing off the table. My wife had the garlic shrimp and enjoyed them. The negatives included one round of chips that were frankly kind of stale (although a second round had no such crispness issues), some very slow initial service, and a desire for a bit more of a flavor profile out of the main course. We will go back, because I thought it was a good experience overall and they are still relatively new in town. If I could give this review a 3.5 star rating, I would. read more

My husband & I both got the Chimichanga dinner it was perfectly prepared so delicious the toppings were fresh & delicious The guacamole was some of the best I've ever had I liked the Salsa & queso but the best thing was my sweet Hyacinth Margarita it was unusual l & very delicious The only bad thing I can say is that they were so busy they were not very attentive after we received our food but that's understandable due to the fact they were so busy I would highly recommend this restaurant read more

I placed a large group order for my boss's birthday and I had let the lady know ahead of time that I was ordering for 8 people. I printed the menu out from their website and orders off of it, most orders were from their lunch menu however they told me that one of the orders was only available as a dinner special and was $4 more, I had to go back and forth several times telling them that it was listed on their lunch menu directly from their website. When I went to pick up the order I took the menu that I printed and showed them that the pollo con queso was definitely listed on their lunch menu and only then did they agree to give me the lunch price. another order wasn't even prepared as they told me that the tacos I ordered were only for dinner. I politely questioned why there wasn't a notice about what you could order for lunch and what you couldn't. By the time I got everything back to our office there was queso leaking out of two of the containers and you could tell things had just been thrown together and two of the lunch orders were labeled incorrectly, so one person who ordered a beef chimichanga ended up getting chicken and the one who ordered chicken ended up with beef. The food was okay, definitely not up the expectation that is advertised which is what we were hoping for. Could have been that they weren't prepared for a large group order but I wouldn't recommend ordering carry out. read more

This was hands down the worst customer service I have ever received. We came to Juannita's for a friend of mines birthday. We arrived around 830 only to find out they close at 10. Their door and website say 11. However we chose to stay for the hour and a half thinking it would be ok. After ordering food for the table, we received an incorrect splitting of the check. We tried to explain to the waiter how to split the check. She then replies in an angry tone "i speak ENGLISH". Then walks to the back saying "god damn". She continued to rush us through the rest of our meal being extremely rude. She called us kids and I found the server highly disrespectful and unprofessional. Mediocre Mexican food for a pricey menu selection. We came in because of a Hooked deal for "buy one Margarita, get one free taco entree" but found out after mentioning this deal to the waiter and ordering based our understanding of the deal that the description was not accurate. Luckily, the manager honored part of the deal after we complained. Complimentary chips and salsa. We got two 32 oz margaritas, which was average but a good amount to get one tipsy. I got the shrimp tacos, which were tasty but the taco shells were super cold. I recommend asking for the hot sauces on the side if you like spicy! Both were delivered and after forgetting the guacamole the first time on the second order I put PLEASE don't forget the guacamole. They did. For the area, it's decent. I had the al pastor and carne asada tacos with a side plate of rice and beans. Al pastor is a delicious taco that I fell in love with while in Cali this summer. The one here is good, the Cali ones are spectacular. Carne asada was basic and satisfied my craving. Beans were typical, rice was plain but I still ate it all. Also had churros for dessert. Yummy but definitely over powdered when it came to sugar. I'll go back. read more

Food is quite good, but..... and this is the BIG but; service sucks (with a capital SUX). Seems like they would figure that one out. And, we've given multiple shots for them to get that right over the several years they've been open, but, they are amazing in their consistency to fall far short in this area. But, the big motive for my review is a warning to make sure to reconcile your receipt with your credit card bill. Seems that to go along with sucky service, they have a penchant for bumping their tip on their own. I guess it goes right along with the seeming fact that they don't realize their service sucks, but feel that, in fact, it is good. So good that they feel the tip should be bigger, so... why not just help correct the customer and add to it so that it is where it should be. Can't imagine I'm the first customer that this has happened to. AND, who keeps restaurant receipts with a record of the tip? Nobody will ever notice, right? read more

Came on a Monday night; they weren't that busy due to students being on break! I came with four buddies; two had been here multiple times. I had the cheese and veggie tamales. I liked my meal. However, I wish it came with beans and/or rice. Veggie options were somewhat lacking on the menu. I do wish veggie was a choice with the banana leaf tamale version. Our waitress was a bit snippy and short at times. The couple who had been here previously said they had never seen here. They don't have their liquor license yet so the "margaritas" are made with wine. I don't like tequila so I gave this a shot; pure sugar gag. The highlight for me were tortilla chips and salsa. The chips were amazing, some of the best I have ever had and not doused with salt. Despite my 3 rating I would definitely give Juannita's another try. read more

Enjoyed a great lunch sitting outside at Juannita's. The porch in the back is very nice and the food and service were great. I had a chimichanga and strawberry margarita and both were delicious. I read poor reviews on the outdoor seating but I think it's very nice. There is a TV for those who wish to watch it and music playing to set the mood. My wife got the veggie fajita, was quite bland. I got the Mole poblano. The mole flavor was good, but the chicken and tortillas were too dry. My son usually likes strong flavors and seafood , but he was not into the shrimp cocktail at all. Maybe we are just not ready for authentic Mexican food. Service - about average. read more

I ate here for the first time yesterday evening, and I really enjoyed it. We were hoping to sit outside, but the patio was full. I wasn't too disappointed though because they only have plastic picnic tables outside that didn't look super comfortable. We were seated upstairs near the bar. We ordered medium margaritas without seeing the price, so I was surprised that it set me back $12. It was a good margarita, but I would have preferred the smaller version considering the price. Besides that, the food was really fantastic. I sampled the chiles rellenos and the vegetarian fajitas. Both were great, but the chiles were really special. Even the rice/beans and chips/salsa were a step above average. My only real complaint was the price. $50+ for the two of us with drinks. If it were less expensive, I would be back more often. However, I think the price is due to the stellar quality of the food. Easily the best quality Mexican food in the area. My guess is that the specialties will be better than the standard burrito/taco TexMex. Definitely recommend the chiles rellenos. read more

If you're looking for an authentic atmosphere and cuisine- choose this- one perk which my not be authentic but much appreciated - my Pacifico beer was served in a frosted beer glass!! I ordered a bean burrito and a side dish of grilled cactus- just to try it. Both were great . The out door patio dining was perfect with Mexican music at a pleasant volume playing. The patio is on the second story- accessible by stairs and ramp. There are a few bistro tables, nice sturdy plastic picnic tables with umbrellas and cozy circular sofa in front of a big screen TV- The bathrooms were very clean. Our fourth visit to Juanita's for lunch was not unlike our previous visits. I just keep hoping things will improve. I want food that is served hot. I want the the temperature of the restaurant to be comfortable. Today's indoor temperature was so chilly, hot food would not have had a chance. After reading several reviews, I learned that you have to ask for the spicy salsa. Seems too important to keep that a secret. Maybe, I should also ask for the spicy chorizo...that was as bland as the salsa. Sevice was fast and friendly. We'll give it another try. I plan to hold off dinner visits until we have a successful lunch experience. I want to support independent restaurants, I really do. read more

The food here is great. The service here brings down the score, we're not hard to please and we've had phenomenal service here... once. More often than not it's less than mediocre and tonight was pushing our buttons. Tonight we ordered our food and got our queso immediately. As we indulged on the chips, we ran out quite early on with cheese to spare. Probably ten minutes later and many servers passing by, never getting offered more chips, our food comes out. After our food is delivered a different server than who we saw originally, without saying a word takes our chip and salsa basket, thinking he is going to refill it for us, we wait... then he rushes past us for the third time and we realize he had no intent of getting us more chips. Our water was refilled by yet another server much after it was finished. Then shortly after we had finished our meal our original server reappeared. We got our check and left with the impression that we will probably only get take out from juanitas if we decide to return at all. The restaurant was not busy tonight. All of the servers seemed pleasant enough. They just have a lot of work to do on their customer service and approach as a team. read more

Fresh ingredients make this a must-try for Mexican food fans in Bloomington. Fair warning: I've been here with a number of friends who didn't really seem to like it, but I always dig how fresh everything tastes. I do enjoy that their Hoosierfood.com delivery service often has deals for 1 dollar delivery, and some of the treats they have (like Mexican coke!) are really nice. I usually get the pollo con arroz or the chicken con queso and I enjoy it. Don't be afraid to ask for extra tortillas. They gave them to me with no extra charge (on delivery, mind you!). I've eaten here a few times to stay and the ambiance is nice. Nothing to write home about. The servers are always super polite to me. read more

Went out to run errands a few weekends ago and decided on a lunch date. We were trying to decide and I had passed it many times never stopping, so glad we did. It looked like they were getting ready for catering and I'm pretty sure that hadn't been open long. We were the only ones inside and there were a couple of pick up orders. They were very attentive, the food was wonderful, The chips were so fresh. Our burritos were so big we both took half home and they give you chips and salsa to go. We will definetly be returning. Hands down my favorite mexican restaurant. BEST Carne Asada Tacos EVER. Get them every-time i go which is often. Their enchiladas are also very good and cheese dip to die for. Great environment and open later than most which is awesome. Theres a bat upstairs and friendly staff. Bright yellow building make it a fun environment as well. So someone said they were nacho sure what was happening and then I said game on. I literally just saw the waitress shake the tortillas and say what was corn. #LifeGoals anyhow now we've got a person flipping a tortilla in the air. And here we go they keep saying be careful of the hot plate and the plates aren't hot...and neither is the food. But it's tasty so there's that. And then the little mister decided to say he's nacho sure he's coming back in front of the Waiter who is why we gave this place five stars. And the mini mister said it's better than the other Mexican place so there's that. So when you read this please know in our group of 12....6 think it's too hot and 6 thinks it is too cold. I ordered delivery today through Juannita's on their website. They had a huge variety of items to choose from. I chose a vegetarian build your own burrito. It was honestly one of the best burritos I have ever had. Not to mention it was absolutely HUGE and it was only $7.25! My fiancé ordered a burrito as well with a side of rice and beans and we shared the guacamole, queso, and salsa sampler. Delivery was free and we also received 15% off for our first order. The final total (before tip) was $27.68. What an amazing deal! I definitely recommend to order through Juannita's rather than a third-party delivery company. I don't usually do reviews on here but our experience at Juannita's was less then par. We are super excited that they had outdoor seating cause it's super nice out for an evening dinner. Our server went and cleaned off a table and proceeded to dump drinks out on the deck instead of properly disposing of the drinks like a server should. As we were walking away to get in our vehicle we also witnessed her drop drinks over the railing splashing liquids on the cars that were next to it. Food was extremely bland and their beer was skunked! I'm guessing the beer is because they didn't replace their beer after everything was shut down due to the Corona Virus, since it does expire. Seeing previous reviews about bland food tho, I can't say that I'm surprised. read more

Our group , some who were first time patrons at Juanita's, were very disappointed with the service we received today at lunch. We had been told Juanita's has some great lunch specials, but none of us had the opportunity to order them. When we asked our server if there were lunch menus, she told us, "yes, but she didn't have them with her". The entrees (ordered from the dinner menu) for 5 of us were brought out in three trips and some of the food was cold by the time we received it. Two of our group paid with cash and change was never brought back. I guess this way the server gets a tip she really didn't deserve. Not sure most of us will return. read more
