It's fine. The service is fine, the food is fine. There's nothing particularly outstanding but absolutely nothing offensive. If you're in this area and craving Mexican, this is a very serviceable place. While the view is just of the street and the parking lot, it's still nice that they have a large patio, and it is dog friendly. read more

We were in town to visit our son for parent's weekend and wanted somewhere to eat dinner. We decided to try Juannita's. Really glad we did! It is a little family type restaurant with indoor as well as outdoor dining. We were seated right away and our drink order was taking quickly. The chips and salsa were served and were good and crunchy. Our order was taken and the restaurant did start to get busy. Our food came out hot and fresh. I and my daughter had the grilled shrimp and it was tasty and a good sized portion served with rice and beans. My son had the carne arsada and my husband had the tacos with chorizo. Wow! My first visit and I really love this beautiful, authentic Mexican restaurant. The service was sincerely warm, personable, and friendly. The restaurant is very nicely decorated, and has a beautiful deck for outdoor dining. It was also extremely clean. Certainly one of the cleanest restaurants I have ever visited. There was even a hand sanitizer dispenser on each table. Much appreciated! Upon entering the restaurant I was warmly greeted. Chips and salsa were served immediately. The chips were fresh and delicious, and the salsa was smooth and flavorful. Everything on the menu looked wonderful, but when I saw they offered cheese tamales I decided to try them. I actually ordered a combo with two cheese tamales, a cheese enchilada, rice, and beans. I absolutely loved the tamales! They were just the right level of heat, with a pepper inside. The enchilada was excellent as well, and the rice had a very nice flavor and texture, as did the refried beans. The service was so warm and friendly that I felt like a guest in someone's home. A very, very, enjoyable experience. There are so many things on the menu I am looking forward to trying, I will definitely make this my lunch or dinner stop the next time I am in Bloomington. read more

Juanita's has truly mastered the art of terrible customer service. Ordered delivery on a rainy night after a long, exhausting day--starving--only for my food to NEVER arrive. After waiting nearly two hours, I finally called, only to be met with some girl giving heavy attitude saying something along the lines of, "my managers are gone, I have no one to give the phone to, idk what you want me to do, I can't give you a refund BLAH BLAH BLAH." I hate to give a bad review, but I took a chance on this place after they forgot to pack my HORCHATA the first time I ordered here. Mid strike one, WILD strike two. So let me get this straight--I PAID for food that NEVER showed up, I'm a broke college student just trying to eat, and your grand solution is for *me* to come pick up my own *delivery order*--cold and forgotten--while generously offering me free chips and salsa (you know, the same ones everyone gets dining in anyway)? And of course, no manager on duty, just an unbothered employee who couldn't care less. The level of incompetence is astounding. Beautiful, and clean restaurant, inside and outside. :-) Carmen was our waitress, and she was very attentive and pleasant. We was seated and Ms. Carmen took our beverage orders. She brought salsa and chips, and they were delicious. For the drinks, I ordered lemonade, and my husband had water with lemons on the side. I selected shrimp fajitas, and my husband ordered the Juannita's fajitas. It comes with Chorizo, Carnitas, Shrimp, Steak, Chicken, Bell Pepper, Tomatoes, Bell Peppers, Onion, Rice & Beans. Based on reviews we must have ended up here on an off day. Food was bland. Service was subpar - my husband had to request a drink refill 3 times before it was provided. I ordered tacos with chorizo plus guac and salsa. He ordered quesadilla with carne asada. And we both got mandarin jarritos ! And of course they gave us an order of nachos. Yum ! Everything was absolutely delicious. The rice and beans that come with entrees is always my favorite part at Mexican places. And the rice and beans here were amaze ! The carne asada was cooked and seasoned to perfection. I had never had a jarritos before, and I loved it ! The only downfall to this meal was getting too excited and dropping my last taco into my lap. Which has now been dubbed the "lap taco". We have dined here many times as a family, usually for lunch and a few times for dinner. It has become a family favorite! I enjoy the coziness of the restaurant, we can carry on a conversation while enjoying our meal. We are seated moments within arriving, with chips and salsa arriving soon thereafter. (Can we take a moment to appreciate how incredibly fresh the salsa is each time we're there ~ I'm not usually a huge salsa fan, but fresh salsa is a completely different story!) Drink orders are usually taken at that time and arrive promptly. If there's any waiting on our meal order, that's usually because we are taking an extra moment to look at the menu. Chips: served warm Salsa: served fresh Cheese dip: served warm with chips Entrees: we have enjoyed all entrées tried, ranging from tamales, chimichangas, burritos, arroz con pollo... I really wanted to like this place but sadly their food is bland. Nothing offensive, nothing awful. Just okay and that's all she wrote. I do like that they bring a different part of the world to Bloomington, but it tastes like they're catering to a Midwestern audience instead of introducing us to new worlds of flavor. They are still operating and I hope they survive because there's certainly an audience for their food here. But if you're looking for vibrant, flavorful cuisine, you may want to take a peek elsewhere. I have came to Juanita's multiple times over the past few years. I have gone at odd times of the day and never during prime dinner hours. The atmosphere is quaint. When you arrive, everyone is very friendly. The food is your average Mexican cuisine, and the menu is quite big and there are many different options. With that being said, the menu can be confusing with the different colors, fonts, and array of pictures. My girlfriend and I came during prime dinner hours and the service was subpar. We got seated and our drinks and chips came rather quickly. We ended up getting a refill on chips to get us by until we could order. We still had no one take our order. No workers were on the floor for 30+ minutes. We ended up deciding to leave and go somewhere else, so we asked for our check 1 hour after arriving because we ordered queso. The experience was very frustrating. After asking for our check, the owner did waive the bill for us. I'd recommend this spot any time other than prime lunch and dinner hours because they are not very good at delegating their time and service. read more

This is my favorite authentic mexican restaurant in Bloomington! We called on Tuesday and made our reservation for 7 on Friday at 6 pm. They seated us immediately with no problem. Our server Gabby was attentive and very helpful! She had a great attitude and was joking with us the entire time. 6 out of 7 of us got margaritas, pictured in the photo. Margaritas: Small is 16 oz, large is 24 oz, jumbo is 48 oz! We were each happy with our choice of margarita and entree. One mistake was made with our food (given rice and beans instead of double rice) and Gabby went to get the rice to correct it. The portions are large, definitely enough to get a to go box! I have never had the want to write review but this experience warranted one. We never had a consistent server and the food all came out at different times. Someone in our party got the wrong food and then they just gave it to the other table that was supposed to get the food. It took ages for them to bring out the missing food. There were ants crawling on the wall and it wasn't just a few. There was a steady stream. My friend eventually got their food and then we asked for checks which took like 15 minutes to even come ouT. The music was blaring the whole time and the food kinda tasted like shit and was hellishly overpriced. Have been going to Juannita's a bit more often since we moved into the neighborhood. Frankly, the quality of the food seems to have fallen a bit, or maybe it all depends who is cooking that day. The focus definitely seems to be on the drinking crowd and not the eating crowd. Can't they focus on both? Had lunch at Juannita's yesterday and it was just okay. Pretty mediocre actually. Best mexican food in town, if you like authentic!

Its really unfortunate. I really want to like this place, and honestly I do like the food. Its no Tijuana contender and doesn't even compare to the Mexican food I get back home in San Diego but for Btown its the best around. The first two times I went the service was so-so but I gave them a good review anyways because any decent restaurant works the kinks out in their service after the first few months of business. HOWEVER, Juannitas has fallen off the boat. Theyve been open for five months and still disappoint me every time I go regarding their service. I usually get takeout and occasionally done in. When I am eating there I can just ask the waiter if there's a problem or misunderstanding. However, the last three times I've gotten takeout they have completely botched my order (which I failed to realize every time until I got home due to the fact that you can't see into the containers). The most recent order (about a week and a half ago) I paid special attention to all aspects. I was ordering with my buddy, and since we wanted to pay separately we put in two separate orders (we thought this would make it easier for them). We both ordered the enchiladas mexicanas with tinga and sides of frijoles con queso. When we picked up the orders I asked for an extra bag of chips (which is supposed to be free just as it is when you eat in). When I went to pay the bill I realized that not only did she add a $0.99 charge for the extra chips but she also charged me $0.99 for what she called a "service fee" which they apply to every takeout order. There was also a third $0.99 charge that was unexplained but I was so tired of asking her for clarification on the receipt that I was fed up and just paid whatever it said and left. $8 enchiladas and $3 queso somehow turned from an $11 meal into $14.94. Not cool! To top it all of when we got home and unpacked the food the lady had put both of the sides of rice that came with the enchiladas in my bag and both of the queso's in my friends bag. As far as they knew the orders were completely separate so had we not both been eating at my place I would have been without queso and him without rice. I wouldn't be that heated about it but this is the third time they either totally screwed up my order or left something out that they charges me for altogether. Morale of the story...they penny pinch the hell out of you and do little to ensure that your order is correct. Do yourself a favor and if you're going to eat here just dine in. read more

1st off I never write a review but I felt the need to warn others before wasting their money. Tried this place today and was totally disappointed. The food was not as described in the menu. The corn off the cob salad iceberg lettuce, frozen corn, tomato and onion, no romaine, spinach or dressing. Tacos Juanitas chicken tacos and no pico, rice and beans sucked. Tacos de la Ciudad, rice and beans ah, forget the lime. Craft beer carnitas tacos, topped with cilantro and onion not good either found gristle in the meat.... nothing good to say about it a child could have put together a better meal. read more

Recently went to Juanita's because we received a $10 off coupon in a moving in package. I really enjoyed the atmosphere and the staff was extremely pleasant. The spot was neither too loud or too busy and the low ceiling gives it an intimate feel. The menu at Juanita's immediately had me excited - the serve Lingua tacos! There were several very traditional Mexican dishes on the menu that would be hard to find elsewhere in Bloomington. I ordered the molè Chicken entree which came with steamed tortillas, rice and beans. My food was sadly only so-so, despite it looking absolutely delicious. The rice and beans were nothing to call home about. Also, I found peas in the rice which hints they use a frozen blend. We did get lucky to come on Tuesday when they have $2 cocktails (!). I definitely would recommend their Mojito; super super minty and fresh. Overall I liked Juanita's and will definitely come back! read more

This was once a good place, but I ate here a week ago & it was an extremely disappointing experience. I called ahead to ask if they serve alcohol. They said they do. I asked because when I ate here about a year ago & ordered a Margarita, I was given a long song & dance about a liquor license; & they ultimately brought me something in a can. So, I ordered a Margarita this time. When an older woman (not my server) brought it outside to me, she said, "Here's your Margarita." Then came the food (barely average tasting, by the way). I tasted the Margarita for the first time: It tasted like fruit juice. I kept waiting for the server (a young man) to return, but he never did. So I ate all I could choke down & had to drink part of the "Margarita" because I had nothing else to drink! He showed up with my check & I asked if there was tequila in my drink. He said he didn't know, but then became defensive & said, "But you drank half of it!" I said that was because I had nothing else to drink. I said, "Don't charge me for an alcoholic beverage." He kept saying, "You drank half of it." So, I paid my bill & left. Needless to say, I won't be returning. No one else should either. read more

This is the only Mexican restaurant in Btown that I had not been to. It's atmosphere is different compared to others but the food was really good. The portions are a little smaller than I'm used to and the meal for four of us was a loooot more than the other places in Btown. Don't get me wrong, it was still plenty of food, just not as much as other places. We go to a lot of different restaurants for lunch during the week. My coworkers and I typically spend around $50 for all four of us at Casa Brava. It was over $70 here, and we all ordered similar items at both restaurants. read more

People are stacked up outside on Cinco de Mayo. Most have been waiting for their food more than an hour. Hard to get answers when you call - if somebody answers. This food had better be amazing.
