In Ventura, after you take your introductory Pickleball Lessons at Juanamaria Park, this is another…read moreplace you can come to get some practice and experience playing in actual games. When my friends and I completed our beginner level lessons at Juanamaria, we talked about trying the Open Play here at Harry A Lyon Park. We were all a little doubtful we were good enough to hang with the Open Play players. Well, I had to find out. My coach at Juanamaria told me to come here and find Doreen, the woman in charge of Open Play. I found her, introduced myself and told her I wanted to play. There wasn't a game immediately available so, in the process of evaluating me, Doreen gave me what amounted to a private lesson. I was super impressed. It was such a generous gift. I learned a hell of a lot! Doreen immediately ascertained what level I was at and matched me with some players that were cool with playing a beginner. I was really grateful for Doreen steering me into the right game, and also appreciative of the players that welcomed me into their game. Very nice players! As it turns out, you are likely to run into all levels of players here during Open Play. There are a lot of very, very high level players. It's super fun to watch them play! But there are also a large number of average players, eager to improve their game. As far as I could tell there weren't any players worse than me. LOL. But I'm cool with that because everyone I've met at Open Play at Harry A Lyons Park has been hella cool. People are competitive, sure, but not obnoxiously so. Mostly you run into people that are clearly having a good time. Way more laughing at than cursing at their misplays. So, particularly if you are new to Pickleball and wanting to get some practice, I highly recommend checking out the Open Play here at Harry A Lyon Park. Especially if you are worse that me. There's an immediate need for weak players so I can start winning some games! The owners usually get their steps in walking the track around the park or sitting on the provided benches. The park also provides bags to clean up after your pup! I've been to Springville a few times now for the dog park and recently for Pickleball. I love this…read morearea of Camarillo as it's obviously very nice and safe. I like that there is some shade up by the park. The dog park isn't for me but I appreciate the layout of it with both the small dog section and the big dog section. It's not so much the park, it's the dog owners which made me take a break from this spot. Like other reviews said some people just aren't mindful dog owners and why they take their dogs to the park is beyond me. My dog is shy and attached to my hip so he didn't love the dog park to begin with. When I'd come here to this specific dog park there were enough instances of aggressive little dogs attacking other dogs that I kind of just became over this place. If I felt my dog was safe here I'd try to bring him more but with the little aggressive dogs & his disinterest we haven't been back for a long time. Some of my friends have said good things about this dog park so I'm sure it just depends on the day and which set of doggies you come across. My more updated review is for the pickleball courts. Came today and I enjoyed these courts. They are nicely painted and clean. My only upgrade is I wish they had more squares. Only two pickleball courts so if it's a busy day you'll definitely need to wait. However today wasn't too bad and we got to play a lot. Met a lot of nice fellow players and overall it was a good day. I like that the parking spots are close to the courts. Easy. A nice place to play as long as it isn't busy, wish they had more courts but I just doesn't seem like they have the room. I'll definitely be back though.

I'm new to pickle ball, I come from zero sports ball background so unlike many - I do not have a…read moretennis background which helps when starting this game. That being said, I'm invested, I'm trying, I'm putting in my time to get better and improve my game. I've been playing for about 2 months. My guy was a junior tennis champ so he's got this even if he's newer to the game. We were on vacation for our anniversary and brought our paddles to play while away from home - keep that practice up! We saw this place is $5/pp for the day to park and use the facilities - deal! 12 courts are dedicated to pickle ball at the far end of the park after the tennis courts. Everyone was so intense on their game play that no one wanted even entertain playing with the newbie (me). I don't need people to play, I'm out there for my own game too, we had an awesome practice. The courts are exceptionally maintained and separated. My grip, one guy felt it necessary not once but TWICE to share with me how much he thought we were wasting space on the court since no one wanted to play with us. Here's the thing, everyone has to start somewhere and you know what - I felt awesome that day even though this guy tried to steal my sunshine. He got more real estate than he deserves but sharing for other new players, don't let people like this get you down. You deserve to practice and try just as much as someone who does it "better". Courts are beautiful, bathroom is available through a code but don't come here looking for a community vibe unless you can bring the A game for play. They aren't messing around and not interested if you are anywhere below that threshold. Noted, and heard - message received loud 'n clear. This is not the place to go when looking for some Grace from other players.
