The 3 sides were salad, rice, and potato salad. For condiments we got hot & mild salsas and ranch & Italian dressings. The lady at the front counter was nice when picking up the order. This restaurant is not family-friendly, especially for those with young children or mobility needs. We were made to feel like we were creating a hazard simply because we had two high chairs for our one-year-old and three-year-old, along with a stroller that was tucked as close to the wall as possible. At the time, we were the only customers there and were simply trying to feed our children safely. The restaurant's layout is extremely inconvenient. The walkways are very narrow, and if you're using a stroller or wheelchair, you have to go around the block to access the rear entrance. Even once inside, there is very little room to move around comfortably. To make matters worse, a staff member approached us in a confrontational manner and told us to make more room for other customers, despite the fact that we were already doing our best with the limited space available. The narrow layout is a design issue, not the fault of families trying to dine there. The food was also disappointing. The portions were small considering the high prices, and they charge extra for nearly everything, including salsa. A few hours later, the food tasted sour and no longer seemed safe to eat. Grabbed takeout from this Juan Pollo on a cold, blustery TUE evening while out ferrying meals. The young man who helped me, no visible nametag but tall, teenaged with dark hair, gave me exemplary service. Greeted me, recounted my order for accuracy and carefully distinguished between my personal takeout order and the one they'd prepared for my client (which was huge and required a few mins to prep). Store was clean and well lit. I opted for a half chicken with a medium vat of their potato salad. The chicken aligned beautifully w/ how I remember past visits to Juan Pollo franchises- Juicy, moist chicken sheened with a golden bronzed armor that tastes faintly of "Dr. Pepper meets pineapple, parties with Garlic and oregano." Founder Albert Okura's recipe certainly nailed the bullseye for flavor and moistness of roasted chicken! But the reason I deducted a star from four to three? Because the potato salad wasn't up to their customary par! Typically the potato salad from Juan Pollo features diced potatoes, green onions, black olives, carrots in a bath of mayonnaise seasoned w/ salt and pepper. I found tonight's version to be a bit heavy on the mayo, but light on the green onions + olives plus their pepper mill jar must've been near empty because it was light, too. Anyone who follows my reviews will attest that I'm a ridiculously "hard grader" on potato salad! I opened my container and on top was a large chunk of hard potato and the rest was wet, milky liquid with no carrots, no black olives, nothing but over cooked potatoes. Mush. I don't want to hurt their business but I feel like there were enough complaints a while ago that I shouldn't have had to throw a large container of potato salad in the trash. While waiting, they ran out of fresh rice, they ran out of fresh chicken & not once did they apologize or told me specifically what was going on. I just heard the shouting. They got about 7 orders wrong and people had to come back to get what they were missing. Maria was so upset that she essentially just tossed a man's order who had been waiting for potato salad; the gentleman at the cashier apologized on her behalf, but she was plain rude, flustered and unprofessional. I should have listened to the online reviews which were all right. Finally when my food did come out, their green salad was disguising and not fresh, two of the three chickens in our family pack seemed undercooked and we didn't fully enjoy and the rice did not taste as fresh as they claimed. That atmosphere was equally draining as everyone seemed upset as well. I will NOT be returning to this location and my plans for any future catering orders went out the window. I refuse to give service to an establishment that got it all wrong. And plain and simple, their manager/lead needs to be re-trained. I will have to spread the word to others about the quality of their food as I would hate for anyone to get good poisoning or have to deal with similar complications. AVOID this establishment at all costs. I had one of the most embarrassing encounters of my life over some BEANS. They will make mess up your order, acknowledge that their employees are the ones who made mistakes, refuse to fix your order, refuse to give you a refund, and then call the cops on you when they hear other patrons coming up to you saying that it's Juan Pollos mistake and they should correct it. My family ordered takeout from this Juan Pollo tonight for a large group, which we have many times in the past. Upon getting home we noticed they didn't give us any of the chicken. I immediately drove back and while I was driving a family member called me and said they gave us an extra XL rice instead of an XL beans. The manager REFUSED to give us our XL beans unless we went back home, got our extra XL rice, and returned it to them. They offered a large beans, extra tortillas, and salsa, but would NOT give us the XL beans we ordered. I told them I didn't want any extra salsa or tortillas, just the food we ordered, but they wouldn't budge unless we went home and brought back the extra side of rice. It was weird and frustrating imo. Also pretty disgusting because why are they so adamant about bringing back the food if they aren't going to resell it? The manager admitted she was working on bagging two orders at once and that's how our sides got swapped, and that a new employee didn't know online order's had their chicken bagged on arrival which is why we didn't get ours.
