I had a disappointing experience at Juan Daniel Hair Design, especially given how important my hair was with my wedding just two weeks away. I came in after another stylist had to leave mid-balayage, leaving my hair partially bleached with foils. I called ahead, and a stylist (I believe Beatrice) said she could help. However, when I arrived, she seemed to misunderstand my situation. After seeing my hair and the reference photos, she recommended a caramel toner. The toner took about 15 minutes, and after styling, she told me my hair looked "luminous" and "lovely." In reality, it was very patchy with visible spotting and looked nothing like what I asked for. When I pointed this out, she blamed the previous stylist, which I understand--but she still chose the solution and reassured me it would work. She then suggested trying a darker toner, even though the first one barely made a difference. I felt like my main concern--looking good for my wedding--was not being taken seriously. I never give bad reviews but this is the third strike at this place. not too long ago i got a haircut with Jose there and i specifically asked her not to cut my hair in layers but she goes ahead and does it anyway. not only did she not respect my choice but she also messed up my hair badly. the layers are all over the place and uneven. the first time they messed up i asked for a blonde color and got green instead. second time, my haircut was bad too. every time i go there they always raise the prices, this time in particular a simple haircut like this cost me $50. there are other local places for much cheaper that still do a great job, the only reason i go here is because they're open late but not going after this. save some money and avoid a bad haircut/dye, don't go here! read more

I've gone twice. Its the only place near my house. The first time I got a lady I asked for no wash since I showered that day and didnt want to dry out my hair and no styling because I usually just leave it natural and let it air dry. When I ask at any other place for no wash they just reset my hair. This lady looked annoyed that I asked and cut my hair completely dry. She took like 10 minutes cut straight across and that was it. I went again this week. I let them wash my hair and style it. I got a guy this time. He looked like he didnt want to cut my hair at all. I told him I wanted a long Bob he said so a Bob I'm like no a long Bob and hes like so just the tips then....I said no so I showed him a picture. He showed me just the tips of my hair and asked if that's how much I wanted cut. My hair is halfway down my back a long Bob is at or just below the shoulders. I told him shorter. I was there for maybe 30 minutes for wash, cut, and style which he didnt do like the picture he blow dried it straight the picture was wavy. He didnt ask me how I wanted it styled he just did it on his own. The whole time he didnt say a word to me. The people next to me were talking to each other and not a word from him. I was not satisfied with the service I received I spoke to Juan Daniel he referred me to the hairstylist that did my hair they said they couldn't bleach my hair when you could get your hair bleached after three weeks they asked me if I wanted to sign a waiver for the bleach, The hairstylist wanted to refund me my $35 but I didn't want to $35 I just want my hair fixed that's the only thing I was asking for,don't get me wrong I really want Juan Daniel to advise the hairstylist how to do my hair I asked her three or four times to go ask for his opinion she never went to ask him this is why I'm not satisfied with the hairstylist she didn't take the time to go ask Juan Daniel this was my first time and last time I go to this salon in my opinion I think Juan Daniel should've asked if I wanted him or someone else to do my hair I waste a lot of money doing my hair read more

It's such a shame that Juan Daniel has to pay the consequences for his unprofessional and low class workers; with him being such a good hair stylist. The place is dump, and very unorganized. It looks like it's set up in one of the poorest neighborhoods in Chicago. Very disappointed. I called ahead and scheduled an appt for Juan Daniel to cut my hair since I know his style and i know his experience from other salons. When I arrive, i take a seat and tell the lady that I have an appt with Juan Daniel. She asks me to sit down and wait for him to finish. After he's done, he checks his schedule to confirm. However, there was another lady (that just arrived i might add) and i have been sitting there for 30 min waiting for him. Juan Daniel says to me that I am not on the schedule. I then answer "how can that be if i called in advanced and confirmed it with the girl who answered." So he searches and searches until finally he finds my name for another day and time. He apologizes to me and tells me that he can't see me because he already has someone for that same time. Which I thought was very disrespectful on his part!! Now, from my experience owning my own business and having family, and friends that own their own businesses he could have done something to make it up to me. Maybe a free haircut with someone else, or maybe even with him at another time, or he should have apologized to the lady and take me instead. I've been a regular here for some years now and I have to say that I've always been very happy with the results. Yes, I know its just hair and yes, I know it grows back but wait until it's you on the receiving end of a bad cut and let's see how cool you keep. A point that brings me to review my favorite stylist once again. But not without a back story, so here goes. Alas, I should have known better but a couple weeks ago I decided to try a different stylist in my neighborhood (Sigh). Things that drove me to this commit this error: 1. The hot summer sun fried my brain and I didn't feel like traveling to 63rd and Pulaski by train/bus. 2. New guy had great yelp reviews. 3. Price point was about $5 less than I usually pay. 4. Being tired of having long hair and wanting instant gratification after finding the perfect cut on Pinterest. Big mistake. I asked for an edgy, elongated, graduated, layered cut. Almost shoulder length front, super short back (had the pic on my phone). What I got was a chin length bob with short bangs. Luckily, I was able to make an appointment for the next day to see Juan Daniel. I was so embarrassed when I walked in because I went to another stylist instead and look, now I had this short, dumb ass haircut. I was afraid that it was unfixable. But Juan Daniel was really empathetic and assured me he could fix it. AND HE DID! He proceeded to somehow turn it into this very cool, edgy, layered cut that I'm rocking right now. I had an appointment a couple of days ago. I had to have my mask on they sanitized my hands and shoes when I walked in which I felt was great they are keeping the place safe and clean. My problem was the employees are required to have a mask on but what's the point if you have it under your chin? There's a stylist named Alex who didn't have it on at first then puts it on but under his chin. Then he's talking with other stylists saying he just got back from vacation still without a mask on. I just want everyone to stay safe, wouldn't want places to close down again. My hair came out all right. It wasn't exactly how I wanted it but it was decent. Went in to get my hair dyed for the 2nd time in my life. I messed up by not going with Juan Daniel the first time. I got an ombre 2 years ago and still had some bleach on my ends. Thankfully Juan Daniel was a professional, he sat me down and talked me out of going lighter. Wihtouit hesitation he said my hair would start to break off. I was a little disappointed because I came in with a picture of how I wanted my color. Instead he gave me simple but beautiful highlights that everyone loved, over my dark brown/red I had before. I have 3 friends that decided to get the same highlights as me right after. The stylists are funny and very sociable. I was there for about 4 hours. THE MOST UNPROFESSIONAL HAIR AND MAKEUP ARTIST AND THE WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE I HAVE EVER ENCOUNTERED. Let me begin by stating that I made the appointment for my bridal hair and makeup, as well as the appointments for my 8 bridesmaids and mother, 9 months in advanced and paid a total deposit of $320 ($50 for myself and $30 for the rest of the girls). Two weeks before my wedding, which I believe is reasonable time in advance to make a change, I called the salon and asked them if we could start an hour earlier, at 6AM, because I was getting a little nervous that we wouldn't be ready on time for the Mass which started at 1PM. Well I was unable to talk to Juan Daniel directly until a week prior to my wedding because they are so disorganized and never passed along my message to him. I even went to the salon personally and left another message and they told me he would give me a call the next day. That call never came, so I called the next day and he said, "I didn't even get to see my messages because I had a terrible headache and went home imminently after arriving." Now let me quote Juan Daniel's words regarding my question about starting an hour earlier "No I am not waking up earlier and drive all the way from where I live near O'Hare to come and do your makeup." and "My girls will be working until 7PM the night before and they wont wake up earlier." Talk about being a DIVA. I then offered to pay more for their services as well as to pick up some of his employees from their homes, yes I even offered that. At the end of this phone call he agreed that he was going to ask his employees and call me back. At around 7PM his assistant, not himself, gave me a call back and told me that they were not going to be able to come in at 6AM and there was no reassurance from them regarding finishing on time the day of the wedding. At this point my thoughts are, this person doesn't care about his business. Because a caring business owner would do anything to retain a customer especially one who has already made a monetary commitment. Because the lack of reassurance on their part, I ended up making a second appointment elsewhere for 4 of my bridesmaids, thinking that I would only lose the deposit ($30/girl). Well when I called Juan Daniel's salon to let them know that 4 girls were no longer going to go with them they proceeded to charge me an extra $20 per girl stating that the $30 was not the real deposit amount that I was supposed to pay. Who does that? But at this point I was fed up with him so I didn't mind as long as I knew everyone would be ready on time for Mass. Now if you thought all of this was bad enough wait until you hear this. A day before my wedding I found out that one of my fiance's cousins had called Juan Daniel and he personally told her that he could do her hair and makeup at 5AM because he was booked and that was the only availability he had. As you can imagine my jaw dropped I couldn't believe what I was hearing. A truly unfair business owner. And it doesn't stop there. I was promised that 4 girls were going to be working on my party starting at exactly 7AM, on top of Juan Daniel doing makeup for 4 of the girls. Well the morning of the wedding, only two of his girls arrived on time, another arrived at 7:20 and to my disbelief started on a lady that wasn't in my party. A fourth girl came in at around 7:30, and the DIVA, Juan Daniel arrived at around 7:45 and gossiped for a few minutes and then proceeded to do my makeup. Like what kind of business are you running where your employees can do whatever they want and show up late to an appointment. Also on top of being rude and unfair to me, he booked another party at the same time. This screams disorganized and unprofessional. He needs to get his scheduling straight. Now lets talk about hair and makeup. If you think he is the best, think again. My hair and makeup didn't last all day and it wasn't any more special than the makeup that my four bridesmaid got at the other salon. I can honestly say that the other girls makeup and hair lasted longer than mine. Never going back to a business that doesn't care about customers. read more

Juan Daniel most definitely not the place to go for eyebrows! the place was rather messy, I get there and they tell me itll be a couple of minutes for the wax. Ok so not a biggy i waited. Then i specifically tell the lady, (who could barely do anything with her nasty long nails) that i wanted my eyebrows to still remain looking thick! I am verryyy obsesive about my eyebrows. So next thing i know she lets me look at my eyebrows and they look horrible!! i wanted to cry. Both my eyebrow shapes were different !! I looked terrible! I will never again go there for eyebrows! or anything for that matter! I'm from Denver and my sister and I went to Juan Daniel's to get our hair and makeup done for a wedding in Chicago. We ended up looking amazing! The hair stylists were very versatile and knew how to do both hair and makeup. They are very talented as well. My sister and I looked amazing!! We were very pleased with the results and we literally got compliments on how great we looked all night. Worth every penny! The only thing holding me back from giving them 5 stars (If I could give them 4.5 stars I would!!) is the fact that I waited for about 20 minutes on two different occasions to get the next step of the process completed. My appointment was at 11 am and they started my hair at 11:20 am. Between hair and makeup, I waited another 20 minutes to get makeup completed. So all in all the wait time was not awful, but if you are on a very strict schedule, please make sure you prepare a 40 minute cushion or else you will run late. I am thinking of hiring him to come to Denver to glam me up for my wedding in 2015! I highly recommend him and his team. Not worth your time and money. I had an appointment with Juan Daniel and arrived on time but had to wait more than 30 mins for him to get there. I explained and showed him pictures of what I wanted which was balayage .My hair was healthy and had been previously colored once. He told me that he couldn't do balayage because my hair would fall off, on top of that I had to sign a paper recognizing that he was not responsible if my hair was to fall off or be damaged. He ended up talking me out of getting what I wanted which was balayage and offered to do some highlights. I ended up getting the highlights because he made it seem like it was my only option. Needless to say I was completely unsatisfied. I was not impressed at all by his work and lack of knowledge.
