Where should I begin ?…read more The chose the name Deer Lake Pub & Restaurant. Their name could not be further from the truth. It is a bar, not a pub, and certainly has no right to call themselves a restaurant. I have been to many, many true pubs and this is nothing even close. It is a low tier bar, at best. The "restaurant" is a drab room with square tables, no table cloths, the room has no decorations or environment. It is drab and blasé, just like their grossly overpriced poor quality food. The Manheim Diner a few miles North serves MUCH better food tan here and it is a third of the price. I have actually had far better hot food from vending machines in bus and train terminals. I ordered the crab stuffed haddock and my wife ordered the 12-oz. ribeye steak. We asked for rolls with my French onion soup while we waited for our entrees. We decided the soup had to be made in fifteen minutes as it tasted poorly, onions were hard and NOT caramelized at all and there was no bread whatsoever under the cheese. Our requested rolls was not forthcoming until after our dinners were half eaten. The "rolls" were actually a small piece of halved hoagie roll which came to the table charred, hard as a rock and fully burnt on the entire bottom. We could not eat them as they were so hard and burnt. And, they charged $3.99 for that ! I requested the crab-stuffed haddock only have the light lemon butter sauce with no added salt, pepper, Old Bay, oregano, etc. it came to the table overcooked, dry, hard and tasteless. The "stuffed crab" was the same and had portions burnt on the bottom. My wife's "12-oz. ribeye" was more like eight ounces, tough as leather, appeared to us to have been hard beaten with a tenderizing mallet and almost unable to be cut with a steak knife. It was hard to chew and had little taste. We seriously doubt it was a ribeye as it was as tough as a flank steak and was most likely a cooked frozen piece of meat. The entire dinner cost almost $100.00. It was worth, at most, $30.00. We dine out a lot and enjoy good food. This was definitely NOT good food. It was not even mediocre. It was just poorly prepared low tier bar food. Save your money and go get hot food from train station vending machines. It will taste better and be appropriately priced.

I was here for a special occasion. The food was ok, maybe not the place I would go to celebrate…read moresomething or a fancy night out - but it wasn't a total bust. Casual night out for drinks and a cheap bite, this is your spot. I ordered off the specials menu. For a starter I went with the house crab dip and chose the toasted bread. It was surprisingly delicious and full of actual lumps of crab meat. For my main I did the surf and turf. Filet with lobster tail. My tail was overcooked and rubbery. My friends was cooked to perfection. Maybe I was just unlucky. My steak was a little more done than preferred but it was tender and had good flavor. You could choose one side and I got mashed potatoes and gravy. They tasted like instant potatoes and canned gravy. It was the biggest disappointment of the meal. The service was ok, our waitress was somewhat attentive to us. The atmosphere was very casual even for a special evening. I was hoping to see a little more effort put into table centerpieces or general decorations.

Yes the screamer sauce is spicy but it is really tasty, and the fluff chills it out in a very harmonious way. The burger itself is a juicy double patty. The fries reminded us of high school football games and the pierogies were fun with extra toppings. If you learn of the Screamer it is then your destiny to pilgrimage to Girardville and dine on them. Pay your respects to Josie and the amazing family legacy that lives on. We have to go back to try a Growler. Things we learned that we wish we knew before visiting. 1. Seems like the most up to date info on the restaurant can be found on a public Facebook Group called "I Love Tony's Screamers". There is currently no phone. 2. *Right Now* their hours are Thur & Fri 6pm to sell out. 3. You enter the door with the ramp, not actually next to their sign 4. You take a plastic number when you walk in, to get in line for your order. They call your number out to come give your order. 5. Everyone there was super nice and the waitress had no problem answering anyones questions or explaining their menu items. You can order your food however you want it 6. You pay after and its **CASH ONLY**

This is one of those places that nobody talks about that is a kept secret in Schuylkill county. The people that know this restaurant won't really tell you about it because it's a secret locals only, but I'm telling you if you happen to be, passing by Girardville and it's 730 at night. Stop in and say hi you won't regret it.

Outstanding experience. (Hope this review makes up for minor squabbles about Gracie's, which I too…read morelove!) Located a bit out of the way in the Flying Hills golf course, but worth the drive. Sports bar- Eagles vibe w/ a decent draft list. The kegs weren't working (seems to happen at every bar we attend these days) but still enjoyed a Mike & Merrill Philly Hazy IPA. Wings a good size, crisp, you know, the way wings used to be before everyone started charging an arm & a leg & serving broken pigeon wings. Classic "Buffalo" sauce & blue cheese dressing were good. FINALLY tried famous Caramel Burger (which I missed several times at the Hamburger festival). It did not disappoint. Good size, flavorful patty, & what these people do best- the bacon jam & caramelized bacon. The sweetness of the onions sings thru. Order it! Husband ordered seasonal special Frikadellen/Bratwurst Smash Burger. Skipping right to it- the cottage fries. (Gracie's/Louie's if you had this all the time we'd have no beef! LOL) INCREDIBLE! Crisp, thin, tender, amazing. If you follow me you know I am over the frozen fries served at every eatery in this country. Finally, amazingly pleasant, genuinely happy, server- Reese. She was on my side throughout this whole foodie journey, even the beer & burger mishap (initially burger served w/o cheese sauce). She's a keeper! We'll be back & will spread the word! Till then, stay on your toes! Thank you Louie's for a great meal.
