Short version: Zero Stars Portlandia Moving damaged my60…read moreinch LG TV (the most expensive item they moved, pics below). They do not carry sufficient insurance to replace it, do not want to pay replacement cost for another, and threaten me with take it or leave it settlement. Please be a smart consumer and shop elsewhere. Detailed Version: Still Zero Stars Movers from Portlandia Moving damaged my 60 inch LG LED LCD Smart HDTV creating a dead zone where no light or color displays. I contacted them the first business day after it was discovered and let them know I wished to file a claim against their insurance for the damage. After all, the primary reason anyone hires movers that are insured is that if something happens to your stuff during the movie the insurance will cover the replacement. They asked for pictures of the damage which I provided the next day. Please see the attached pictures below. After not hearing from them for 2 weeks I called them up to figure out where we were in the process of replacing my TV. They informed me that the "insurance" they have covers something like 60 cents per pound of the item that was damaged but what they wanted to do was to cut me a check for 500 dollars. I told them that to buy an equivalent replacement would be substantially more expensive. He said that someone had gone to Costco and found an off brand replacement TV which could be purchased for 600 dollars. I told them that the reason I buy LG is that I have had bad experiences for other brands, and that a cheap off brand equivalent is not an equivalent replacement. I asked for some time to review how much a replacement TV would actually cost me, and to review the TV they suggested from Costco. After doing extensive research on Amazon, Best Buy, Costco, etc., I called them back to discuss the options. I understand that my exact TV is no longer manufactured. The market has switched from 1080p to 4k almost universally. To get a USED TV made by LG with the same size and inferior features would cost between 600 and 800 damage from Amazon (not including shipping). When I asked them if they would split the difference between those 2 numbers and go for 700 dollars, Brian got upset. He basically threatened me with something along the lines of "if you don't accept our 500 dollar offer you're going to have to accept the money from insurance". I don't know how a moving company can be allowed to carry insurance that doesn't actually cover the replacement cost of the goods being moved. I couldn't replace a sack of flour at 60 cents a pound, let alone a TV, or a computer, or a bed. To be offered a "take it or leave it" settlement for 83% of the cost of the cheapest off-brand TV they could find speaks volumes about the ethics and integrity of this company. The only powers I have as a consumer, apart from potential legal action, are the powers of my voice and of sharing my experiences with other people. I'm not asking them to buy me a brand new 4k TV. I just want the market value of a used TV from the same brand with equivalent features. To be treated so dishonestly and disrespectfully means that I cannot recommend any consumer use their moving service. If the value of your personal items exceeds 60 cents a pound, don't trust Portlandia Moving's insurance to cover the cost of their replacement should they be damaged during the move.

My move was a logistical nightmare - on short notice, and took 2 days when we thought it would be only one. I had a 25-ft truck, moving 5 people's stuff 2 1/2 hours away. These guys (a 4-man team) not only rolled with the punches - allowed me a week's delay, a last-minute second day to the move, and LOOONG working days - but they even went back to my old house and moved some straw bales we hadn't been able to get earlier for me, without me even there. Oh, I didn't mention that this was a FARM MOVE, and that they helped me CATCH AN ERRANT SHEEP????? They totally saved my butt, and I will be forever grateful. A word about speed vs efficiency: these guys might not be the very fastest movers on earth; but there's an EXCELLENT reason for this. They PLAN the LOAD and they STAGE, instead of just throwing stuff on the truck. I had tons of breakable, fragile stuff and a very large truck. Everything made it in one piece, and that is unusual, in my experience. Especially considering there were TWO 25-ft loads. And it's not like people were standing around while this was going on either - the team leader plans for a few minutes, and everyone else keeps schlepping. They were very careful and mindful, and that's the reason my move was a success. I could go on and on; there were numerous situations that arose which proved their mettle, but hopefully this will be enough for you to get the idea. I give Portlandia Moving (and Brian Connelly, the owner) my highest-possible recommendation. And if you use them, I think you will too.
