I work close to J's Deli and people who I worked with would not stop talking about how awesome this place was. So I got take-out once, it was the Ring of Fire and it was ok. Then I got the Freshman which was pretty good. Then on my 3rd J's Deli experience I finally understood why people loved this place. I ordered the Patriot with Russian Dressing instead of Dijon mustard. It was Amazing, and it was a lot of food. Inside is pretty small and it can be pretty busy at lunch time. The people are friendly and the menu is HUGE, there are names of sandwiches lining the wall, all with interesting names. Random Points -Tv Inside -Coke Products -They sell buffalo chicken, stuffed quahogs, and lots of other meats by the pound. -They have " value card" that gets you 1 free sub after you buy 10 -A little more expensive than subway but so much better. I can't believe I'm writing this. But I tried to call J's to give them a chance to make it right but I was placed on hold and hung up on. I want to note that I go there at least once a week, spending at least $20.00 a visit which is only two sandwiches. I got the chicken parm lunch special. Now I know why it's a "special". It looked like a murder scene when I unwrapped it. It appeared to be at least a day old and reheated to lump of coal. I'm more disappointed I was hung up on. Yelp doesn't always work like it's supposed to ... but in this case, it did, and my experience at J's Deli last Friday aligned with its respectable 4-star average rating among 80-plus users. Count me as another satisfied customer. I had a job in Smithfield, so my coworker John - who is basically a human version of Yelp, when it comes to food - recommended J's Deli. It's in a strip plaza anchored by a gas station, although there is ample parking. For the uninitiated, it can be overwhelming deciding what to eat. There is a small menu board, but the inside is dominated by several individual signs describing sandwiches named with a business theme. While in line, I only had a few minutes to decide before I reached the cashier to order. I chose a special, the chicken club sandwich, and added a bag of chips, a Coke, and blondie for desert. Even at 11:30 a.m., the place was busy, but adequately staffed, and the line moved quickly, despite the steady stream of customers. I only waited eight minutes for my sandwich. It was freshly made, breaded and deep-fried real chicken - no processed chicken patties here! The bread was also fresh and had a nice texture: soft, yet chewy, but not airy, bland fluff like Wonder Bread or a supermarket torpedo roll. I could tell the sandwich was made with care, since it was nicely presented with melted provolone and bacon cooked to the right consistency, just between chewy and crispy. It was a solid, 4-star sandwich. It could be a 5-star sandwich with some tweaks, such as tastier tomatoes and losing the shredded lettuce for some leafy romaine lettuce. And, at $7.99, it was a good value - it was so filling, that I wisely decided to save my chips for later, and I was still stuffed! The pickle that accompanied it was awesome, and the blondie was very good. Clientele widely varied, and no doubt included some nearby Bryant College students, as well both blue and white-collar workers, and some elderly. Many customers got their food to go. There are about a dozen tables if you want to dine in (as I did), but don't expect much ambiance. The tables are crowded, and peoples' butts were literally about a foot away from my table as they waited in line. Also contributing to the lack of ambiance was the fact that the noise level was pretty loud, between the satellite radio and employees shouting food orders. The radio station played a mix of 90s pop, rock and dance music; I heard a Nirvana song, followed by a Notorious B.I.G (a/k/a Biggie) song ... an odd juxtaposition, but a cool trip down memory lane nevertheless. There was a TV on, but I couldn't hear it over the din. Talk about another odd juxtaposition: While Bon Jovi's 1990 song "Blaze of Glory" played on the radio, I watched a kangaroo kick a male underwear model in the groin in a strange commercial .... Anyway, a couple of reviewers tried to compare Js Deli to Subway, but there's no comparison, my friends; they're not even in the same league. I definitely want to return and try their "Summer of Lobster" special: a buttered, grilled roll with eight ounces of lobster, plus fries and slaw, for $21.99. read more

It is obvious that the owners and operators take pride in their business. This location is swarming with Bryant College bellies, starving for a hearty meal, and they will get it here. Famously known for their sandwiches, there is just nothing on this planet like an on-the-go "The Fraternity" All white meat Willow Tree chicken salad on a bulky roll. In autumn, you'll fall for "The Gobbler" Roasted Turkey Breast, Stuffing, Gravy and Cranberry Sauce THE BOMB! My guess would be that most people do not know that they are a functional deli and that you can buy by the pound. Although I have never bought by the lb, I do know that they use those same cuts in their sandwiches and they are fabulous. This time I ordered "The Diablo". Willow Tree Buffalo chicken salad, lettuce, tomato and fried hot pepper rings. This was my first time trying this sandwich and I think I would have liked it better had the chicken been warm. My dinner mate got "The Euro" and it was veal cutlets with marinara sauce, provolone cheese and sprinkled Parmesan cheese. Good but not the best I have had there. I'd leave the "Euro" to the Euro's/ Italians in this case. Over all good. Typically much better than todays experience which is why I will keep my 4 stars. Definitely can't go wrong with a js deli wrap for a busy weeknight. I always get the chicken falafel spinach wrap. Which has falafel, grilled chicken, lettuce, hummus and banana peppers on a spinach wrap. Definitely pretty basic but they never mess it up! My husband got the chicken parm value meal which you can't go wrong for chips, sandwich and a drink for 9.99! The service was great! Breaded chicken, bacon, cheese, lettuce and tomato. They use high quality ingredients including Boars Head cold cuts. They offer hot and cold sandwiches; but if I am buying a sandwich, why should I get cold deli meats when I could just make it at home? A sandwich runs you about $10, so it's not too cheap. I have been going to J's for a long time and have never done a review, well, not today. I just had The Investor for the first time; perfect!!! And the kicker, I asked for well-done bacon and Wola bacon was excellent, along with everything else including the friendly service which had always been my experience at J's Highly recommend. As a Bryant Alum, I remember going to Js many a times. I was excited to take my partner there after a quick driving tour on our way to Providence. First words out of my mouth were "just trust me." We turned in and it was exactly as I remembered. Ordered the freshman and I wasn't disappointed. The bread is still as delicious as I remembered as was the sandwich. Bbq sauces is on point and the bacon was crispy. I was in heaven! We got the fried mozzarella and it was crispy and stringy with a great marinara to dunk in. Favorites of mine include the Freshman (BBQ chicken) and Gobbler (thanksgiving dinner on a sandwich). They have anything and everything you can think of. All sandwiches are about $7 and many are named after Bryant University (right around the corner) and business/college-related things. Bryant is a business school so you'll see sandwiches named things like the Stock Broker, Graduate, Freshman, Wall Street, etc. etc. In case you haven't figured it out, J's Deli makes the best sandwiches there are. When you walk in they have boards with all the sandwiches listed and their ingredients, fresh ingredients I may add! On this visit, my husband got the bartender which is breaded chicken chunks with Kentucky bourbon sauce and melted pepper jack cheese on a torpedo roll with lettuce and pickles. He said it was awesome and the pickles complimented the sandwich. I got the Wall street which is extra lean pastrami and corned beef (there not kidding) with melted Swiss cheese and spicy mustard on a torpedo roll. Had the vegetarian wrap with falafel which was very tasty and an order of curly fries that was generous in size which I appreciated!! The most notable part of my experience was the service my boyfriend has a peanut allergy and we were sharing the wrap when I asked if the order contained any nuts the two servers in the deli went and checked the ingredients on both the hummus and the sauce in the wrap to be sure there were no nuts, overall good food and great service ! read more

Don't go to J's if you're not hungry. Seriously, don't. The sandwiches here are huge, so if you're not ready to strap on the feedbag, or at least lack a way to bring your leftovers home, you're going to be in big trouble. If there's an obesity problem in Smithfield, then J's is the main contributor. I mean it. Big. Damn. Sandwiches. Luckily, the sandwiches are also very good. Nothing that's terribly health conscious, mind you, but if you're able to overlook that, you're in for a treat. Giant piles of deli meats, chicken cutlets, burger patties, etc., covered in additional giant piles of toppings and condiments. Lots of options for sides, too - chips, fries, slaw, desserts... you're going to leave here very full. It gets pretty busy here around lunch and dinner times, so I recommend calling ahead if you're stopping in then. It's probably not a bad idea at any other time they're open, either, because I've never been in when there haven't been at least a few people ahead of me in line and folks at many of the tables. I recommend the Pilgrim - turkey, cranberry sauce, stuffing, mayo, and muenster cheese. I've been frequenting this J's Deli location ever since my college days. When my stomach is rumbling and I'm in the mood for a delicious sandwich, J's is usually the first place that comes to mind. What I've always appreciated about J's is that they make tasty sandwiches that are very generous in portion size and quite reasonable in price. I can normally eat half for lunch and then have the other half for dinner...their slogan is definitely true, "It's not just a sandwich, it's a meal!" The other thing I also enjoy is they offer a wide variety of sandwiches to choose from. There are deli classics, as well as various different specialty ones that they will rotate in. While not featured as a regular on the menu, my favorite over the years has been the Brahma Bull (shaved steak, sliced buffalo chicken, hot sauce and peppercorn ranch served on a toasted torpedo roll)...in my mind, it's true sandwich perfection. A local spot with delicious, large portions and a friendly staff that works on getting your order served to you in a timely manner. As the Rhode Island representative for UPS freight I was catering and event for one of my largest accounts. I relied heavily on the expertise of J's manager Eric to help me figure out just what I would need to cater an event for over 100 people. Eric was spot on with his recommendations. The sandwich platters with the assorted salads and chips were absolutely delicious. With the reaction from my customer on the high quality of the luncheon, and just how thankful his employees were, I will certainly be doing this again for more of my accounts.
