Mid-October JRV Home Inspection Service was used by a buyer to inspect my home in Middlefield. Upon entrance a flow and pressure test was performed and JRV acknowledged that the pressure switch at the well storage tank was not working, yet they proceeded to purge the well until it appeared to dry up, causing damage to certain areas of the home i.e. plugged mixing valve in furnace; plugged filter in washer and other areas. In consulting with professional contractors, I learned that we were in a drought period and JVR should have proceeded with caution and not have caused the situation to escalate into damage to the home. In addition, in checking my seldom used dishwasher which they turned on but never checked....causing water to flow onto the floor. Upon return to my home, water was fine and replacement of switch ended the fiasco. JRV will never be allowed into any of my homes again. read more

Jim is a great inspector. He is incredibly thorough and knowledgeable. He looks at everything, climbs on the roof, tests everything, goes into the basement and attic and around the whole house. He spent about 3 hours on a small house and I received the report the next day, even on the weekend. He includes videos and pictures and is quick to respond to any questions. He gave me quite a few negotiating points with the sellers and I ended up getting some credits and repairs. Jim worked with us on a short sale home purchase. Since the home had some deferred maintenance, it was crucial that we get somebody experienced and thorough. Jim came highly recommended by our agent as the top inspector in the area. I also read his blog before engaging his services, and I could tell from it that we were going to be very happy with his do-it-right-the-first-time philosophy. At the inspection, Jim was incredibly thorough, having inspected the roof thoroughly before we even arrived, as that section of the report attests, along with photos of a crack in the chimney. As first-time home buyers, we have never had a home inspection and weren't sure what to expect. Recently I inherited my parent's home - and many people were making suggestions to me what needed to be fixed and what I ought to do with the property. One contractor even insisted ALL the windows needed to be replaced, (approximate cost $3,800). I decided to have James come and make an inspection of my house before spending any further money on home improvements. He started outside, and systematically worked up to the attic. The inspection took about 3 hours. I was VERY impressed. I found James to be friendly yet professional, efficient and practical. His advice was "spot on." James was very detailed, and his 65 page report with photos was excellent. Bottom line, my windows were fine.....I saved $3800 by listening to James and not the contractor who was obviously trying to rip me off. Once the contractor saw Jame's report he was speechless, and I have not heard from him since...lol. James found things that I was not even aware of - and now I am spending my money wisely based on his report, to make improvements that are critical and necessary. I hope to have James back in the future to check again. His service is great if you are buying a house, but also equally great if you need a set of eyes on your home to help you determine where improvements should be made. My husband and I recently hired Jim to inspect our new home. From the beginning, I explained to Jim that the home we were purchasing is an estate, and we don't have any disclosures. We needed him to help us solve the unknown mysteries and make sure the home wasn't in very poor condition. Jim spent three hours combing every single book, cranny, crawl space, roof, you name it, and provided us with the most detailed inspection report I've ever seen complete with photo diagrams of our home. He answered questions we had on large items, but ended up pointing out some smaller things that if repaired will save us a lot of time and headache in the future. On top of the excellent service, his fees were extremely reasonable, and about half the cost of a corporate inspection company we had previously looked into. He gave us the up front inspection fees and broke down a few extra options we had (like well quality testing) but at no point put pressure on us to say yes to any of them. Not to mention he's such a nice, personable guy. Totally cool dude that you're comfortable talking to. I would have invited him out for a beer if it wasn't 9 am. We will be highly recommending Jim to anyone we know whose purchasing a new home. He helped us out so much and made this home buying process substantially easier! read more

I am one of his sub-contractors that assists him with the Wood Destroying Pest inspections. I have been doing these for 16 years, working with dozens and dozens of different home inspectors. Jim would be the one that I would call to inspect my home if needed. In fact, unbeknownst to myself at the time, (and before I met Jim), my own mother hired Jim for her home inspection and raved about how great he was. Now that I have gotten to know him myself, I agree. I have performed dozens of inspections throughout these last few years beside Jim, and have had a chance to witness many very well done professional inspections. Jim is knowledgeable, as well as extremely detail oriented. Not only in a booksmart way, but in a many years of solid experience way as well. Every single home and situation is different, and I have personally seen Jim troubleshoot an odd situation on multiple occasions. These types of observational skills and problem solving abilities are more talent than work ethic, which he also has plenty of as well. That man goes on every roof he possibly can, despite my repeated warnings to not fall, and watch for electrified gutters. In closing, Jim is also a stand up guy. He is the only home inspector I have ever befriended on facebook lol. He is charasmatic, unlike some of the wooden fellows I've encountered throughout my years. Honest as well! I am shocked to see a negative review for JRV home inspection. We just had our inspection done on a house and we were more than impressed with the process. After spending a half an hour on the phone speaking with my husband about the process, what to expect and general inspection information; Jim sent him a copy of the contract via email as well as a copy of the CT regs for home inspection. None of the other companies sent this or even mentioned it and they did not spend even a fraction of the time discussing the home inspection process with us. Upon arriving at the house, Jim was already there with a team of people. They were friendly and informative. In reference to the roof situation mentioned by the other reviewer, I want to note that in our case it had rained and snowed on and off last week but Jim still was up on the roof for quite a while inspecting it. He was in crawlspaces, a grungy basement, a tiny attic and he seemed to have observed everything. He allowed us to tag along asking questions along the way. He was so helpful and informative about what we should expect and what he found. This is our first house so we were more than just a bit anxious about the inspection but he helped us relax with his calm demeanor and wealth of knowledge. He inspected the house on Friday and by Saturday night we had the report. Yes, there were seperate fees for water and radon, but that is what most companies do. It gives you the ability to test a la carte and I appreciated that we didn't have to have more tests done than we wanted. We were able to pick and choose. So far, our experience with JRV has been a great one. We called over 10 places before finally choosing JRV and I'm glad we did. I do not feel that Jim overlooked anything and he was very thorough. My home was put on the market May 2017. I received an offer from a prospective buyer .Mr James Quarello of Jrv Home inspection LLC was hired by the prospective buyer to do a home inspection . Mr Quarello found multiple conditions within the home . Im very thankful for this report as I had no idea to some of the hidden conditions and have begun to correct these items .The first offer fell through.I received a second offer from a potential buyer who loved the house and was very excited .These buyers spoke to James Quarello on the phone Monday morning June 19, as a prospective buyer wishing to hire James to inspect the house . Mr. Quarello told them over the phone that he had already inspected the property and disclosed conditions to potential buyer about the property and included a drinking water issue stating that he had sent a report to the town to with the results . Results would have been available around June 5.2017 . I was never given or notified of any drinking water issues . The potential buyers are strongly considering withdrawing based on Mr Quarello phone conversation . I went to my town health department the following day only to discover that there in NO REPORT on any drinking water issues I believe Mr Quarello acted in an unethical way and violated confidentiality . Code of ethics states that inspectors are to act in good faith toward each client and other interested parties. Inspectors shall be objective in reporting and not knowingly understate or overstate the significance of reported conditions. Revealing any information about the property over the phone to new prospective buyers is a violation of ethics. Inspectors shall not disclose inspection results or client information without client approval . This information was private and paid for by another client . Mr Quarello's level of professionalism is questionable and harmful to the industry both to buyers and sellers . read more
