The mechanic there took it for a ride without me and came back 15 minutes later and told me I needed a new transmission. He would put one in for $7000! I thought I should get a second opinion. I went to Lakeside Transmissions on Groesbeck in Mt Clemens because of all the good reviews they have. The owner of the shop, Jacques, took me with him on a test ride with some instruments. He checked a lot of things and said he didn't get any error codes that indicated anything was wrong, even though he could feel the problem as we drove around. My Escape has over 80,000 miles on it, and I told Jacques that I had never had the transmission fluid changed. He said to call him the next day, so he could do some research. I took my Escape home. When I called Jacques the next day, he asked me to come back. We took my Escape out for another test ride with even more instruments. He still did not get any error codes indicating I needed a new transmission. However, he had an idea of what the problem was and felt that changing the transmission fluid would be the first thing to do. He changed the transmission fluid (at a great price), and the problem went away! My Escape now runs like new! I can't thank him enough for all the time and research he put into trying to give me the right diagnosis. I have never had such a true professional, as Jacques, work on any of my cars before! I HIGHLY, HIGHLY RECOMMEND LAKESIDE TRANSMISSIONS!!!

In any event, I was recommended to try transmission Physicians outside of Marine City, and dropped the car off there. Gary and his crew ran a scan on the transmission, determined what was at fault, and then began the process of removing, rebuilding, and reinstalling not only the transmission but also the torque converter and the crankshaft position sensor in the engine itself. I won't kid you, it took a long time (almost 3 weeks to get parts ordered, installed and road-tested). Yes, it was expensive (as all transmission work is). Yes, it was difficult to manage without a vehicle for nearly three weeks, but the end result is that I have a working car again, with a newly-rebuilt transmission that is guaranteed for 1 year and unlimited mileage. Gary stands behind his work. If you drive a foreign vehicle, and can do without said vehicle for a week or more, I would recommend Transmission Physicians. If you drive a foreign vehicle and -cannot- do without it for a week or three, well...good luck. Very few places in southeast Michigan will work on Nissan transmissions, and believe me, I looked!

Tuffy had the correct diagnosis from the start even after going to specialty trans places in the area and the lowest price and warranty by far. I have gone there ever since. Most recently, I had my battery die and my brakes go out on me twice. Tuffy sent Chuck out to help me out with my battery even on a Saturday (it happened across the street at Kroger) and saved me on a tow. They stood by their warranty when my brake line went bad and pads got damaged. And then got me in next day and had the work completed on my pads, rotors and caliper on my rear brakes by the next morning-even with having to order parts! I even get my oil changed there because they are the most affordable around. Tuffy treats me like I am their family. I know I can always trust them to give me the best price possible.
