The mechanic there took it for a ride without me and came back 15 minutes later and told me I needed a new transmission. He would put one in for $7000! I thought I should get a second opinion. I went to Lakeside Transmissions on Groesbeck in Mt Clemens because of all the good reviews they have. The owner of the shop, Jacques, took me with him on a test ride with some instruments. He checked a lot of things and said he didn't get any error codes that indicated anything was wrong, even though he could feel the problem as we drove around. My Escape has over 80,000 miles on it, and I told Jacques that I had never had the transmission fluid changed. He said to call him the next day, so he could do some research. I took my Escape home. When I called Jacques the next day, he asked me to come back. We took my Escape out for another test ride with even more instruments. He still did not get any error codes indicating I needed a new transmission. However, he had an idea of what the problem was and felt that changing the transmission fluid would be the first thing to do. He changed the transmission fluid (at a great price), and the problem went away! My Escape now runs like new! I can't thank him enough for all the time and research he put into trying to give me the right diagnosis. I have never had such a true professional, as Jacques, work on any of my cars before! Tuffy had the correct diagnosis from the start even after going to specialty trans places in the area and the lowest price and warranty by far. I have gone there ever since. Most recently, I had my battery die and my brakes go out on me twice. Tuffy sent Chuck out to help me out with my battery even on a Saturday (it happened across the street at Kroger) and saved me on a tow. They stood by their warranty when my brake line went bad and pads got damaged. And then got me in next day and had the work completed on my pads, rotors and caliper on my rear brakes by the next morning-even with having to order parts! I even get my oil changed there because they are the most affordable around. Tuffy treats me like I am their family. I know I can always trust them to give me the best price possible. CAround late November of 2021 my car broke down. I was driving in a subdivision and ,upon taking a…read moreturn, I heard a (clunk-like) breaking sound, and my car stopped moving forward. It only moved in neutral, reverse, and the lowest gear after that. (This happened while I was working, so you can imagine the disbelief and stress I felt). I got it towed the following day. With the description of the problem, the tow-man said it sounded like the transmission gave out. I did research on transmissions for my car (2009 Chevy Impala). I discovered that people with the same car had experienced similar problems with their transmission. Mind you, I'm 19 years old, and I had absolutely no idea how to find a solution. I spent some time looking online for transmission repair shops in my area. For a few days, I called MULTIPLE shops asking them about what might be wrong and the costs to fix it. I got quotes all the way up to $6000.00, until I found Cuddy Brothers Transmission..... Mind you, my car did not drive; however, they were able to tow my car to their shop for "free."(I believe the towing is free with a related purchase, so ask Todd for details). As I called and explained the situation, he said it needed to be rebuilt. When he brought it in to diagnose, he confirmed everything he said over the phone. What caused my car to stop driving so suddenly, was that one of the three bands had snapped while driving. There were other corroded and worn pieces as well. They replaced all the broken pieces in the transmission. They also cleaned all the parts. Todd is very honest and knowledgeable about what he does. His entire team reflects that. I was astounded and impressed by how well they were able to simplify and explain to be the different parts of the transmission and how/why behind each part. Before I got any work done, I was given an estimate for the final price. It came out to be just under $2800($2747.68) to be exact. That included parts, labor, and sales tax. The interior of the lobby is old-fashioned, but their Bay Area looked well equipped with tools and everything. If you have any questions about warranty, your transmission, or general inquiry, don't hesitate to give them a call to speak to Todd. Todd was kind enough to bring me into the bay and give me a break down of everything in the transmission. He did an excellent job of educating me about it. The only concern I had , at first, was the duration of the rebuild. He said it was a 4-5 day job. However, they started on Tuesday, and they finished around 4:00pm on Friday. The mechanics were very friendly and open to questions. I knew nothing about transmissions before this. Now, I can have actually have a discussion about the parts and how it works. I'm giving five stars because my experience was INCREDIBLE. For all the research I did beforehand, I wish I had found this place first. But, as the saying goes "diamond in the rough", I had to dig through some roughness to find this diamond of Transmission Repair Shop. If you're unknowledgeable about what to do, don't worry. GO HERE and you'll be taken care of. I'm very fortunate to have found this place, and I happily share this information with you.

Apparently management changed, the tech who signed off on the safety was no longer there. They denied everything they had told me the first day. They told me this guy that sold me the vehicle brings in at least two vehicles a month for safety. When I called the second time they mistakened me for different vehicle for the same issue, a supposed passed safety. Clearly something is going on in this shop. I wouldn't trust buying another vehicle that was safetied by this shop.
