They stated that they had to go out of town and I would get the bid when they returned. So I received the bid 7 days after my appointment and 5 days after all the other bids. I selected Steve's company for a concrete project despite receiving lower bids from other…read morecontractors because he presented himself as a professional and assured me, both verbally and in writing, that the work would be completed properly. Before work began, I specifically discussed the importance of properly preparing the subgrade and using a mechanical plate compactor before pouring the concrete. In my observation, no plate compactor was ever used on the project. Instead, ground preparation appeared to consist primarily of manual tamping in selected areas. Based on what I observed and the resulting condition of the slab, I do not believe the site preparation met professional standards. The concrete was poured on a hot, sunny day, and initially the finished product appeared satisfactory. Steve instructed me to begin watering the concrete the following day to assist with curing. The next morning, I discovered extensive cracking throughout the slab. This was not limited to one or two isolated cracks. Instead, there was a widespread network of cracks covering nearly the entire surface. I immediately notified Steve, provided photographs, and requested that the issue be addressed. When he later inspected the slab, he attributed the problem to the concrete supplied by the ready-mix company. However, during our discussions, he also mentioned that another recent project had experienced similar issues. That statement raised concerns for me regarding whether the problem was solely related to the concrete supplier. Over the following weeks, there were numerous discussions about having the concrete company evaluate the situation. Despite those conversations, no meaningful resolution was ever provided. More than two months have now passed, and I have received neither a repair proposal nor an offer to correct the work. This delay has prevented me from moving forward with the next phase of my project and has resulted in additional costs and inconvenience. To make matters worse, this project cost over $13,000--significantly more than several competing bids I received. I even provided an additional $500 tip because I believed I was hiring a contractor who stood behind his work and would deliver a premium result. Unfortunately, that has not been my experience. Based on my experience, I would strongly encourage anyone considering this company to thoroughly document all discussions, verify that proper site preparation methods and equipment are actually being used, and ensure that any concerns are addressed before final payment is released. I hired this company expecting professional workmanship, accountability, and follow-through. Instead, I was left with a cracked slab, unresolved issues, project delays, and the prospect of hiring another contractor to correct the work. My project involved many facets of…read moreimprovement to the appearance of my home and it's surroundings beginning with the removal and replacement of a thick, old cement and gravel patio which was replaced by beautifully crafted travertine tiles. Off the patio are gravel wings topped by tasteful stepping stones which conceal catch basins and drainage pipe to the street. The bushes along the entire front of the home were removed and replaced by new beds of assorted plants and landscaping rock. The new bushes are large, full and healthy looking, not your typical teacup sized fare commonly seen in new landscaping projects. Thick rock and gravel walkways along these areas were removed and new ones laid with stepping stones to the driveway. The job was embellished with many extras, mulch placed in extra areas, sod put down where grass was sparse, minor woodworking adjustments... I've gone into this detail to outline the project blueprint and the obvious experience the owner, Ernesto, possesses to pull it all together and I'm not particularly easy to work with or impress. The assigned crew had an extremely strong work ethic and pride in themselves and one another. The same folks came every day for the entire project and are marvelously in sync with one another. They were helpful and good natured, always willing to explain a task or process, each one a delight. They came one last time today to fine tune the job and move things back into place. Again, above and beyond is the best way to describe each person's performance. They earned a monetary token of appreciation and truth be known, their worth and the outcome of their work would easily merit three times the amount. This was a good experience and the price of it was fair. If the boss says it'll be done, it's done and we all know that's usually not the case.

The crew had to remove my back yard fence gate in order to get materials to the back yard. I was promised that it would be reinstalled the way it was but they did a shoddy job replacing my back fence gate and now there is a larger than one inch gap between my gate and the latch. (see picture). I brought this up to Nova Roca's attention who said they would fix it but it has been over 3 weeks since we spoke and have not heard any follow-up. Also, the crew left a lot of concrete rubble in the grass that I had to take a shop vac to remove.

If you are thinking about an outdoor fireplace, then talk to Antonio. Have pics of fireplaces you like in order to give him an idea-vision of what you want. P.S. The fireplace we had built has a 3-foot thick concrete foundation base and for good reason: weight. My fireplace weighs approximately 16,000 pounds. 3 - 4 inches of concrete will not support that weight.
