"Shawarma"
Andy R.

This is my second visit and am still let down. Average hole in the wall deli. They lost track of my order (chicken shawarma), had to ask again and never got my side order of fries. Food is nothing to write home about; misc grilled chicken chunks with pickle rounds and some spiced sauce wrapped up in a flower tortilla. I would rather wait and eat at the air port.

JR Grills is located on G street right across from the Harborview apartments in a small convienence store by the Embassy Suite Hotel. I got word from a friend that they serve up some pretty good chicken Shawarmas so had to see for myself! As I enter they have plenty of dishes they offer such as all kinds of deli sandwhiches, gyros, and salads. I went ahead and ordered the Shawarma from the cashier up front and paid and was told to give it a few minutes. As I observe the cook he makes it on spot and within minutes later I was given my food. I go ahead and sit outside at one of the many tables provided by the place. The wrap looks amazing and I just wanted to dive in and smash the whole thing after I snapped my pictures. As i dig into it it wasnt what i expected and fell disapointed quickly. The chicken was a tad bit dry and it was basically a knock off version of a Cali burrito with french fries, and pickles. I ended up eating the whole thing but it was just A-OK in my end. Definetley check this place out if your looking for a fusion between Cali burritos and Mediterranean cuisine or maybe even try one of there gyros!

This is a great deli/convenience store. There is a very large outdoor seating area on a peaceful courtyard. They have a big selection of wines, liquor, snacks, candy better than 7-11. They have a great deli. The manager recommended their chicken schwarma plate which was fantastic. It was freshly made, piping hot, very large portion with rice and delicious salad. The cook Waleed made a great plate on demand. The hours are convenient, service friendly and one of the best varieties of items. Highly recommended.

Off the rip, walked by earlier and saw the place because of the Taco Tuesday sign for 2 for $7 Tacos on tuesday. So i went in today knowing it was Thursday. I was a little twisted already but I needed more food and it was Right outside my Hotel in Downtown. My experience was pretty good i ordered really smoothly the staff was friendly to me and welcoming. The gentlement behind the counter was great and speedy with my sandwhich (which i can say was pretty solid! It has a little more of a kick than u would normally expect i got a Chicken Chipotle) and it was an all around good experience. I will go back on tuesday to give them the other star!

The name of this place has changed to Jr's Grill. This is a small place located in the back of Embassy Suites Hotel at the end of walkway. There is seating outside but most locals do take out. It is a grocery and small grill with a host of fresh foods. We had the beef shawarma, chicken shawarma plates and chicken shawarma bowl. Staff are busy and friendly. The food is prepared when you order so everything is fresh. I tried the creamy spicy hummus. So good! The plates and bowls were large and protein was plentiful with some tomatoes and pickles on the side. Excellent.

Fatboy's Deli & Spirits - American classic

Coming back to send my love to my favorite sub place…read more I've sadly moved to a different part of town so Fatboy's is no longer a few blocks away. I still try to stop by every few months as this place holds a special place in my heart. A no frills spot. Solid and consistent. To the point but friendly customer service. Fantastic drink, chip and snack selection. Sandwiches are always bomb asf. The hot momma and BLT loaded up is my favorite. My husband still loves their Ruben (it is his favorite place to get it.) You get a small potato or macaroni salad on the side with a pickle (perfect crunch.) I personally think it's a great little add on. Their chili is also simple but delicious. I personally think their chili pairs perfectly with any of their sandwiches. It's not a heavy thick chili. Which is why I think it pairs so well. I won't lie it's a bit pricey but you get what you pay for. It's loaded up and good quality. I never feel gross or overly bloated after eating here. I will be coming back to Fatboy's until I move out of San Diego or die. lol. One of my favorite gems in SD. Always will be worth the drive or walk. Thank you for always delivering even years later.

I used to frequent Fatboy's because it was close and convenient for a long time, but I am rarely able to visit anymore... parking is a bigger challenge every day in North Park, and finding even a 15-minute spot takes way longer than the drive for me now (but the walk is too far to pick up a quick meal). Today I was down the street for something else so decided to order a sandwich. I was excited, then my jaw dropped when I saw the price increases. It's $18 for the North Park Club now, with no extras. I already had a hard time justifying $15 for a sandwich but I'm officially, 100% priced out now. I know it's not necessarily on the business owners; rent is exorbitant in NP, profit margins are small in the food service industry, and operating costs are high. Our city is eating itself alive, but thank you for the years of sandwiches!

Love The Marketplace…read more Pick a sandwich. Any one. They're all good. If you're a Reuben lover, you have to try one. Beyond delish! A variety of soups available, on a rotating schedule. They do sell out of some, though, so if you want some of the soup, you need to get here before dinner. Lunch availability for soups is generally best mid-morning to mid-day. Try the clam chowder. Yum with a capital Y-U-M. Chicken noodle is also excellent. Great beer selection in their refrigerated case. Look carefully, as you may miss something you really would like to try. Many local craft breweries available, but if you want the national brands, they have those too. Excellent service from the kitchen staff and the checkout staff. Be aware, though, this place does get really crowded at lunchtime, so you'll most likely have to wait in line to check out. Order your sandwich, go to pay and your sandwich will be ready before you know it. Chow down!

OMG... we just found THE pizza. We got the veggie pizza…read morewith added pepperoni from the Marketplace in Bakers Hill, and I swear, we were like two idiots sitting there raving about it. It was THAT good. The crust was perfectly crispy, the toppings were the perfect amount, and they were spread out so every bite had the right combination. And the flavor?! Oh my God. But here's what really got me: there was absolutely NO greasy, gooey mess. Nothing soggy, nothing weighed down with cheese or oil. That's what kept the crust so perfectly crisp all the way through. It was just really, really well-made pizza. And an 18-inch pizza was only $27, with HUGE slices. Seriously, what a deal. Ordering online was super easy, and it was ready in less than 30 minutes. We picked it up and basically couldn't stop talking about how good it was. Hands down, the best pizza we've had in this area. This one is going into the rotation. And at $27 for an 18-inch? I'm already thinking about when we're getting the next one.

We typically go to Iowa Farms since it's close to us and we're familiar with the location. We love getting the potato salad and bbq baked beans (prepackaged) sides there when we stop in, but if you're not early on the weekend, they usually run out. So we decided since we'd be in the Bay Park area, we'll check out the original location, Siesel's. Glad we did! I wanted to make a slow cooker brisket one weekend, so it was perfect. Siesel's is a bit larger than Iowa Farms and feels a bit more open. Same great cow awaiting outside the store. But they have a whole deli counter with all the sides plus more! They didn't have any ready made prepackaged bbq baked beans, it was better, made fresh daily and we were able to get as much as we wanted at the deli counter. They also have several different Siesel's signature potato salads and pasta salads that aren't offered prepackaged at Iowa farms, which I absolutely love! My favs are the Asiago pasta and deviled egg potato salad. We also decided to try their Tri-tip sandwich made to order at the deli and it was delicious! Fluffy bun piled high with Tri-tip covered in bbq sauce and have the option to add cheese and anything else. Love it! Staff is always very helpful. Parking lot can get full on the weekends, and they can run out of the pre-prepared meats in the front counter, but make sure to ask if there's any more in the back or they may be able to prepare some for you! We'll definitely be back! Until next time! :) Simply the best! Series: 17 2026: 34
