Mike’s Monroe County Paving - Seal & Pavement Marking 585-643-4129

Mike’s Monroe County Paving

Mike and Melissa Segelin are the real deal. They're the only ones we work with now and we couldn't…read morerecommend them more highly. Here's why: We renovated a duplex for our family, essentially replacing everything, addressing grading / drainage issues, and installing a lot of new pavement / concrete surfaces. We'll spare you details of the endless parade of contractors we had to deal with; we were at the end of our rope. Then we decided to hire Mike as our General Contractor; after that, costs went down and quality skyrocketed. What we experienced: - Priority #1: Safe and clean worksite - Mike and Melissa treated the entire project as if it were their own - They considered our needs as if we were family - Detail-oriented but always kept in mind how other parts of the project would be affected - Offered multiple options for every aspect, so we could find the perfect balance of price and quality - Mike was always on-site, supervising the contractors (seriously, from dawn to dusk, I have no idea when this guy sleeps!) - A few of the sub-contractors we hired, before Mike came on the project, had tried to screw us over, intimidating and threatening us; Mike moved quickly and decisively, resolving things in our best interests - A solid network of high-quality contractors - Melissa's understanding of current design / decoration trends helped us find solutions that fit our taste - timeless! We loved working with Mike and Melissa so much that we also had them renovate our old house; literally just discussed the scope / goals, gave them the keys, and lived our lives while they worked their magic. When we sold it, we got more than two times what we put into that renovation. Couldn't be happier!

JBC Pool Company - Cracked concrete around the pool

JBC Pool Company

This company is THE WORST!!! If I could give zero stars I…read morewould. I am sorry to say but hiring JBC Pools was probably one of the worst decisions I have ever made. My experience started when the installation of the pool failed to begin in May as per contract and wasn`t finished until after the first snowfall in November, rather than in July as per contract. The gate of the fence to my backyard was broken by JBC equipment and Joe assured me several times that he would fix it. Despite many reminders by me, and many assurances from him, never fixed it. He claimed the posts were rotted and the contract did not include fencing, BUT HE VERBALLY PROMISED ME. (My friend was with me and heard Joe take responsibility for the repair.) The cement by the fence was also broken by his equipment. As with the fence gate, Joe assured me he would repair it; it is still broken to this day. My backyard was wide open all winter as I could not find anyone to repair or build and install a gate before winter. In addition, my dog has not been able to be let out in the backyard since the gate was broken. In the contract, it was written that two trees, including stumps, would be removed. While the trees were indeed cut down, the stumps were never removed. I now have to pay the new landscaper to remove them. The concrete around the pool already has a crack in one block. Also, the edges of the concrete were never smoothed out so there are sharp and ragged edges around the pool. Stones laid for the backfill are scattered all over the backyard. I now have to pay someone to remove all the stones. As an aside, I had originally been told the backfill would have to settle for 2 weeks before the concrete could be poured; 2 weeks turned into 4 weeks, at which point I was told they had to settle for 8 weeks. This was where the lack of communication became the most frustrating aspect of the ordeal. Texts, emails, and phone calls went unanswered for weeks. When he would finally get back to me, he was arrogant and dismissive of my questions. Am I enjoying my pool? The answer is absolutely NOT. I have been unable to open the pool this year. I have to pay an additional $13,000 for landscaping which is scheduled to start in the next few weeks, which is the soonest I could find and hire someone. JBC left my backyard absolutely trashed! The contract described a "final cleanup", which I presumed would mean leveling and removal of the scattered backfill. It was only sometime in November that Joe said, "You'll need a landscaper to come in". Perhaps if he had told me that sooner, I would not be waiting until the middle of July for a landscaper to make my backyard usable again. I started the pump this year to circulate the water and add chemicals under the winter cover (which I have left in place until the landscaping is complete), and the cholinator and solar panels were shooting out water. A technician did come out and made necessary repairs...only after my initial email was ignored by Joe and I had to call him. Also, the tool that comes with the winter cover to remove the grommets for the winter cover was not left for me and I had to purchase one. I again reiterate, timely communication with Joe and/or his designated contact person was essentially non-existant from start to finish of this project, which really caused a whole lot of frustration on my part. This entire experience has left me greatly disappointed and I would NEVER recommend JBC to anyone...EVER! It was the worst experience I have ever had with a contractor. I have attached some pictures of my backyard to illustrate above. Patrick Frieary
