I had four, count them FOUR Cotton Poplar trees on my property. They loomed over my two story…read morecolonial, casting continual shade on my siding, roof, and lawn, and forever clogging my gutters with leaves. The trees were ugly and a nuisance, and needed to be removed. We had one similar size tree removed about ten years ago for $900, so I knew this project wasn't going to be cheap. I called five tree removal services. Unlike other contractors, it seems like tree removal companies are not in a rush to get new business. All, except for Ted Hosmer Lawn and Landscape told me they would be around within the next two weeks to give me an estimate. Ted Hosmer's was there within two days. They were by far the most reasonably priced, and their salesman Rick, appeared to be knowledgeable. The trees are situated on the border of my property and my neighbors', who have a beautiful woodland shade garden on their side. Some of the Hostas and trillium in their garden were planted nearly 30 years ago, so you can imagine their trepidation concerning this project. Rick took the time to speak to my neighbor, at length, about their processes and procedures -- assuring her that her garden and the several small Redbut trees below the poplars would not be trampled on. I signed the contract, emailed it back to Rick and thought we were good to go. A week or so later, I receive a phone call. Evidently he "grossly underestimated" the project, and would need to charge me AN ADDITIONAL $1,300. I nearly choked. This was completely unacceptable, and after much discussion and deliberation, Rick agreed to have the trees removed by one of their subcontractors at the agreed upon price. The caveat being Ted Hosmer's would step aside and I would deal directly with the subcontractor. I signed a contract with the subcontractor. Shortly thereafter, Hosmer's sent documentation freeing them of their commitment to our contract. I have neighbors who have nothing but positive things to say about Hosmer's. However, my personal experience with Hosmer's was extremely disappointing. Four months later the trees are still towering above my house. The subcontractor preferred to cut them down in winter. This is January. And so I wait...and wait...and wait. I think the new subcontractor (mislead by Hosmer's) is hoping I will just give up and find someone else, since it appears they do not want to remove the trees at the price Hosmer's set. I find the whole thing a ridiculous waste of my time and energy and in the future will never contact Hosmer's again. It was a bait and switch game all the way.

My decision to use Josh was based on what I saw on the website, speaking with some of their clients and checking out some of the completed projects. Ann H, one of the Senior Design Consultants from Josh took my "vision" and turned it into my dream. And then there are the employees who came to the house to do the hard scape, I have 1 word to describe them, tireless, some of the hardest working people I've ever seen. They worked from dawn till dusk, the worksite was always left neat. The bottom line is, they delivered on what they promised, showed up when they said they would, they were in touch and kept me informed. I'm thrilled with the outcome and I would and already have recommended Josh to family and friends.

They quoted me about $150 a square foot just for installing the deck. I googled the average price to have trex decking installed and it said 40 - 80 a square foot. Highway robbery. Also they wanted an $800 design fee before that would even come over and look. I guess they really do not need my business. For what she quoted me, I could have built a small home with windows and electric. I cannot speak for their work but they are definitely screwing people.
