She makes these planters herself! The place is engulfed in plants!

A great little nursery tucked away in Benicia, across the street from The Loft wine bar. This little nursery is filled with trinkets, like air plants, terrarium supplies, the Lady who works there even made her own Succulent planters. All the fertilizers she had were Organic as well i the soils. I ended up buying a book called "The Drunken Botanists" They sell books too! She has succulents of all sorts, and from what i understand if she doesn't have a plant she can order it she which is great :) cause i need loads of Lavender :)

TL;DR: Cute little plant/garden shop in downtown Benicia with a nice proprietor and good selection/price. We were in downton Benicia for the open studio event, walking around downtown and happened upon this small arboretum of sorts. I'm not exactly a botanist, but I do appreciate adding a little green to my environment, so, intrigued, we wandered in. On display were a number of succulents, herbs, and other assorted plant life. The shop itself was relatively small, a large part of it being an open air courtyard with a lovely fountain adding to the ambiance. I could have very happily pulled out a book and a glass of wine and sat here for hours. We ended up picking up some small cacti for me and my girlfriend, so that we could have something green on our desks at work. When we asked the proprietor any number of questions, she was quick to respond and well versed in her craft. I do imagine should I find myself walking around in the area I shall return, it truly is a joyous space.

SURROUNDED BY LIFE All these amazing little plants sit in a shop on Benicia's First Street and surround you with life when you walk in. So many varieties and displays! It's really a beautiful store. The woman working asked our questions about the orbs hanging with plants inside. Our friends who purchased plants asked about watering cycles. She was very thorough with answering all of us. We took the most time browsing the plants here. More than any other store we stopped in. There was a display on the wall that had little pockets to put plants in. It hung and had many rows. Very unique and very beautiful. Prices were reasonable. I would have purchased something but the day was still young and I didn't want to have to carry anything around with me. My desk could use some life. I tend to accidentally kill off everything that sits on it for more than a couple weeks though.

Joyous Spaces created a beautiful living wall on my rooftop. The result is amazing! Joy from Joyous Spaces installed a vertical garden filled with florals, edibles, herbs and grasses that creates a beautiful front-drop to the cityscape and hides the ugly house next door. Joy was very professional. She handled the project from conception and design to the installation of the framework and PlantsOnWalls panels. She worked with me to choose plants that would tolerate the climate on my roof and did the planting of over 1000 pockets. Joy finished the project by hooking the panels to a drip irrigation system that helps with its maintenance. I am so happy with Joyous Spaces and what was created by Joy. I recommend calling her if you are looking to improve your outdoor space.

I'm a year late sending in a review for this amazing local business. Joy did such an amazing job at our wedding at the Benicia Yacht Club. She designed and dressed the arch giving the wedding couple and family time to get ready. She created the best bouquets for me, my bridesmaids and family. She got each of the boys and my son. Joy also worked with our wedding cake designer to dress the cake. I highly recommend her for weddings or large scale formal events. I also liked her tech ability so I could easily send her my inspiration. Afterwards, she also did a great selection for a good friend's birthday. I couldn't say enough good things about her. Good job Joy.

This was the first stop on my Benicia Yelp Hood Hunters walk. I was enthralled by the garden sculptures and in general, the space. We chatted with Joy (owner) and she mentioned she is shifting her focus from wedding floral designs to garden art. I spent time marveling at the outdoor displays of whimsical metal work and also the desert plants in the stone holders. Inside, the plants are arranged freely but feels spacious in a small space. In honor of First Saturday, there were veggie, cheese, cracker hors d'oeuvres nicely arranged in trays and wine as well. I will definitely be returning to this shop on my next visit to Benicia.

No one around on a Saturday afternoon.

Stephen is truly a master at his craft. We've loved his work and designs so much, we've now done…read moretwo yards with him! We specifically enjoyed Stephen's approach because it was so "design" minded, compared to other landscaping companies that want you to have your own plan/design in mind- Stephen really takes the time to think through what you want, translate what you're looking for, and put it into a design that really works both aesthetically and functionally. He didn't hesitate to let us know when something we said we wanted, actually didn't match up with our goals - I appreciated the honesty and transparency.

By the time the warm weather came around, our hardy weeds would wear down to a brown dust on top of packed clay soil. We might have tried parking cars on the hard pack. It was a hot dusty mess. When the rain came, one day of rain could turn the hard pack into a morass of sticky gooey mud which was hard to clean off the feet, and hard to clean off the dog. Our backyard was unusable about 3/4 of the year. Finally, we had a couple of slopes in the backyard that were a challenge to know what to do with...it was not an easy place, full of work. The best thing (among many) is that Steve is knowledgeable about plants, how they respond to the weather, and where they will grow. He is also willing to work with you, listen to you, incorporate your ideas, convictions, wishes and desires for the planning of your landscape. I do believe Steve was tired of seeing our number on his caller ID when we called, but he always got back to us, answered our questions and made adjustments as he went. We were definitely heard in our wishes. LIving Earth Gardens handled our soil construction (where they turned it from clingy, muddy cement to soil that would grow stuff) They cleared brush, the planted trees, fruit trees, and put in a drip system to help us water it all. From start to finish they had the tools and know how. They also put in some stairs to make the slope navigable. You will find the whole staff energetic, positive and conscientious. We are pleased with our yard and the effort that was made to get us there.

I wasn't going to leave a review but the more I thought about the conversation I had with Alison,…read morethe more I thought I should write a review. My husband and I love gardening and want to put in a greenhouse and fire pit seating area in our front and side areas (we are on a corner lot). We both are professionals who work in SF and have different taste so we thought we would hire a professional landscape designer to give us cohesive design. I got a referral from Vince's Landscaping (great company) to Alison from Simply Perfect Garden's. I gave her a call and she was lovely at first until she found out I live in Rodeo, CA in Contra Costa County. She instantly said, "I usually work in Walnut Creek, I mean, I barely have time for my family. I don't have the time, I'll find you someone more suitable for you". I was blown away at her response. We were on the phone for only a minute and a half when she says all this. Rodeo is closer to Benicia than Walnut Creek and is in the same county but this is know as a blue collar town. I'm sorry to hear she doesn't have enough time for her family but this is her business, no one was asking her to do it for free and as a person who represents workers like gardeners in Golden Gate Park and Silverado Country Club, I respect people who work in horticulture and know their value. To me it sounds like she has a problem with being able to control her own schedule but a larger problem with stereotyping and bias. Mind you, it's Martin Luther King Day. So if even you have a million dollar home, if it is in an "undesirable" zip code, don't bother calling this company.

The Experience: Getting a Quote: Enrique was quick to respond on Yelp and was prompt in arriving to give me a quote. He walked the front and back yard with us and we agreed on the plan and price. An initial big cleanup and then twice a month maintenance. The Work: He showed up on time and did hours of work to tackle the big job of taking down the weeds and overgrown bushes and trees. He remembered everything that needed to be done from our initial quote conversation. He even helped me understand why parts of my grass refused to grow. I asked him about a large tree in our front yard and he helped me understand what needed to be done and that it would be a separate quote. Understandable because it would be a big job. He will be back in two weeks to finalize and clean up the rest of the weeds and other normal maintenance. The Quality: In the past, I've had tried about 3-4 different gardeners. While very nice people, always left me feeling like I had to keep calling things out or they were in and out as quickly as possible. It was easy to communicate with Enrique both in person in via text. He explained the process of getting the weeds out. He also understood that because we have pets, prefer a less toxic way to treat our weeds in areas our dog plays in. After the initial clean up we actually want to look at our yard again to enjoy these lovely Benicia days and evenings. I'm very happy with Enrique and am breathing a sigh of relief for a gardener that I can rely on and trust with our yard. Thanks Enrique!
