This week with my parents was all about thrifting. This was our first stop. My mom found me a Lucky brand top that was on the 50% rack. I tried it on over my clothing as they don't have a changing room. The top was a bit too baggy on me and the sleeves were kind of short, that was how the sleeves were to be, but still too short for my liking. I looked through all the clothing and sadly didn't find anything that caught my attention. This was a downer as it was our first thrift shop in our week of shopping. I was starting to feel unlucky. Things did pick up over the week and I found lots of great finds at the other thrift stores in the area. Changing rooms- Sadly they don't have any and that kept me from picking out clothing to try on. I believe they have a return policy of some type. You probably just get store credit, that's how most places work, you don't actually get your money back. if you are a frequent shopper here that can work out for you. Since I'm from out of town taking the clothing home and trying it on and trying to return it doesn't really work for me. Bathrooms- I think at one time they allowed patrons to use their restroom, but now it's limited to just employees. Parking- They are part of a strip mall and they have a private parking lot with free parking. There were plenty of parking spaces when we arrived. Monday, July 13, 2026 around Noon. Offerings: Clothing, Shoes, purses, dishes, dog and cat supplies, furniture, suitcases, ect. Dog and Cat Supplies- They have a ton of different Halloween costumes for your furry friend. There are lots of shirts for your furry friend to wear. They have baby gates, crates, food dishes, toys, ect. This is a great place to shop at if you have a furry friend. I wish I knew about this place when my little girl was still around. So sad. My parents love this thrift store. They come here on a regular basis. My parents are volunteers at Joybound and get their employee discount. I on the other hand wasn't impressed. Unless i get a new furry friend I probably won't come back on my own. read more

The old store was so much better. Although this one is bigger and spread out, it has a different feel. They no longer sell books. When I walked in, I was not greeted at all, no kind of acknowledgment. As I was leaving, I was not acknowledged. The employee, Sydney was busy talking to another lady up front and could not be bothered. I hope they do well for the sake of the animals but is one is definitely crossed off my list of usual stops. read more

No trouble with service. Selection I'm sure will be improved over time. They've been opened only six weeks. Now: VALUE. Value? No way. Most items I peruse are significantly overpriced in my terms, and I'm not poor. For example, an inch thick pak of 2"x12" multicolored fabric priced at $10. ??? I might pay $5 tops. I find many items of interest then practically no purchases, unless in great need of the item. Result: paying more for what I do buy, but many many fewer purchases. read more

Six or seven months ago, we drove a long way to shop here and arrived just before they closed the back portion of the store. One employee/volunteer said that I would not be allowed to look around the soon to be closed off area. Another approached my wife and I and asked if there was something specific we were looking for. I told them that I desperately needed a large dog crate to house my terminally ill dog. I was escorted into the "closed" area. She helped me maneuver through collection of dog crates to find the one that fit our needs. I paid for the crate and the same volunteer helped us load the crate into the back of our vehicle. She expressed her sympathy and told us about a pet loss related grief program. Today we are returning / donating the same crate after the passing of our dog. I do appreciate the volunteers many acts of kindness. Thank you. read more

Wonderful organization. Had my cat maverick neutered and they were on top of everything. Jennifer, the resource scheduling customer care was extremely friendly and heartwarming to speak to. The scheduling was well organized and Mavericks drop off and pick up were completed by staff with no hassle . The information offered on maverick's aftercare was clear and precise. this organization is highly recommended. Maverick is now out of the woods with his healing and is playing joyfully with his brother and sister. read more

I recently helped my parents move and they had boxes of clothing and miscellaneous items they no longer needed. As easy as it would have been to toss them away or drop it off at Goodwill, I wanted to donate it to an organization that would use the sale profits towards something good. After doing some research, I stumbled upon ARF and thought it would be a good spot to make a donation to. You need to call ahead to make a drop off appointment and if you check their website, there are items they do not accept, such as outdated electronics, medical items, sporting goods, etc... Making an appointment and dropping off the items were quick and easy! I can't comment much about what they sell in store and pricing, but donation wise if you are moving or cleaning up around the house and have items you don't mind letting go, I would recommend checking out ARF. read more

Hands-down my favorite thrift store. I've been coming here for about 5 years pretty frequently. I've found amazing treasures--everything from thrifty clothes to vintage cast iron skillets (score!). The store is definitely more organized than most thrift stores I've been to. The front room of the store is clothes and personal items (accessory). The middle-back room has a lot of kitchen items; this is definitely my favorite place to look. The back-back room is filled with books and other household and pet-related items. The prices are amazing, I always feel like they could charge me so much more and I'd still pay for it. The volunteers are super kind as well! ARF Thrift Store is entirely run by volunteers and willingly accepts donations between 10-2 Monday through Saturday. Check their website because they do restrict certain items at certain times (such as electronics, appliances and bedding.) The profits go entirely to the ARF shelter in Walnut Creek towards medical care for the animals taken in there. I am an ARF shelter volunteer but also now a regular shopper at the thrift store. Their store front looks small from the strip mall it's located in, but it's very deceptive. Once you browse the large front area of clothing & some cases of higher end items, keep going back and you will be delivered to a maze of kitchen items, books, pet items & a treasure trove of unique and well priced items. They do an amazing job of turning inventory over for the holidays and festively decorating their space (as I've been witness to for both Halloween and Christmas.) There is no need to pay full retail for Christmas items. There are aisles and aisles of ornaments for sale (gently used) as well as holiday dinnerware and brand new packaged cards & wrapping paper. The store gets rather busy with many shoppers who appear to be regulars. Prices are extremely fair and they have monthly clearance specials that are indicated by special color coded tags. ARF Thrift store is an unexpected gem of a shop and donators seem to be very generous (I've seen some higher end DKNY purses and Fossil Watches in their cases for sale-all donations.) Visit ARF for the bargains and feel good about your purchases supporting a worthwhile cause! read more

I was just chased out of this store because "the volunteers want to go home". Okay, I thought they closed at 4 which was what the sign said, so I thought I'd have a few minutes to look around. Oh no, not on their shift. They were rude and very curt when I questioned the closing time and why they were chasing me out. Unfortunate that the volunteers for this organization don't understand much about public relations. Especially at Christmas. I will not ever shop here again and recommend you go elsewhere. We were moving and needed to get rid of a lot of items: clothing, kitchenware, linens, etc. It was very difficult to find anyone willing to accept donations in May/June. Goodwill was only taking certain things. The Hospice Thrift shop had limited hours and the one approved day that we arrived, they had a sign that said "Not Accepting Donations Today." Our furniture was too outdated for Habitat for Humanity even though it was in perfect condition:tables, chairs, coffee table, hutch, end tables. Arf Thrift Store was great about accepting donations (except for furniture). You need to make an appointment, but they are flexible. My husband made at least 8 trips overa 2-week period before we moved. read more

I stopped off at the ARF Mart yesterday donate some household items. I have a ways to go before Gayle and I eventually consolidate our households and these "purges" are helpful as I move forward. At the same time, it's not always easy to shed some of the trappings of my single father and Albany homeowner existence that have sustained me for so long. The ARF Mart itself is located within the mass of shops anchored by Fry's Electronics. Sales proceeds support ARF Emergency Medical Fund® which provides veterinary care through the ARF clinic for the companion animals of low-income Contra Costa County residents. The store space is large, L-shaped, and stuffed with lots of "stuff". Like everything else related to ARF, there is a huge volunteer presence that is always impressive and sometimes over the top. And that sometimes makes up for what I perceive to be some modest organizational shortfalls at this shop. There is a Senior discount on Tuesdays and of course animal companions are also welcome. read more

I had been driving around with bags of lightly worn, still in great shape (although too big of a shape for me), clothes in the back of my car for far too long. I searched "donations" on Yelp, and this thrift store appeared. My honey and I drove over while out running errands. According to the sign out front, donations are accepted Monday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. We walked in and it wasn't totally clear where to go or what to do. There were quite a few volunteers on the floor, although none seemed like they were accepting donations. We made our way back and found an employees only area to the right. There, a very nice man greeted us and immediately started taking the bags of clothes off our hands. An offer of a receipt and we were on our way. I felt good about donating here, as I think it as a great cause. read more

For over thirty years I've donated to the ARF Mart and have always been amazed by this well-run organization. The discoveries run the gamut, clothing, books, animal necessities, shoes, and more. The staff is efficient, careful of the reputation ARF has earned and diligent in making certain quality continues to rule their policy. Great thrift store. $3.00 for shirts/pants can't beat that. Things are organized by categories. I've gotten so much here. A can opener, clothing, towels/linen, jewelry, kitchen stuff, crafting items, shoes, board games, etc. There's no weird odors like other places, half off a different colored tag every month, I think. Follow them on Facebook. I just wish they would organize the clothing by size and not color. Most everything is too big on me and then shockingly too small. read more

I love coming here before the pandemic. They just had a ton of stuff. Since the pandemic there isn't as much stuff, but it's better quality. Love the discount clothing every month. Get there early to choose first hoping the item you were once looking at is now there. I'm not sure if it's every month end, but the discount clothing turns to $1 to try and help them thin out what they have so the racks of clothing don't get overwhelmed. Love the store and the items you never know you'll find. Sometimes you'll get treasures and some days you leave empty handed. Prices for clothing has increased to $4, but the price is cheaper than goodwill. The store has either sorted their donations to only put out quality items. This is my favorite place to drop off donation. I'm redoing my closet and I need to get rid of a lot of things. Some I sold and some I gave away but at the end of it I got tired of sorting them out. I bagged them up and took them here then I did it again a second time. It was like a heavy weight lifted off my shoulders. It felt really good. It was also nice that the money raised will be used towards animals and pet owners in need. Donating is easy as 123. You bring your donations to the back room and let one of the staff know you're donating. And if you like they'd give you a receipt for tax purposes. The donations are accepted Monday thru Saturday from 9-2pm. The place looks small especially if you're looking from the outside. But they have more rooms in the back so check them out. The front room is full of stuff mostly clothes. There's shoes and jewelries too. The back has some household items. You'll never know what treasure you'll find here. I found a DVD ($2) to buy at one time. You have to take the empty case to the counter and the staff will find the disc for you. This place is manned by volunteers. There's a man there that's really friendly but the other volunteers are hit or miss. It feels good to donate here though. read more

I hope that now the hours have gone back to normal for the most part that they don't turn people away at 4:20 when closing at 5. In the past I wasn't let in at 2:20 when the store closed at 3. Sigh... I loved this store however the past few times I've been inside there is a man working that is just plain rude/arse. That's putting it nicely. First encounter I had with him was I purchased a nutcracker that was behind the counter that had a sign which read "we have the box" I bought it and asked can I have the box. Well the lady helping me couldn't find it so she asked him nicely to look for it. He acted as if he had no time to help her or me. Told me it's gone. I said well I only bought the nutcracker cause it said it has a box. Can I give you my number in case it turns up. He quickly and rudely said "NO ITS A WASTE OF TIME". That didn't sit well for me however I figured maybe he had a bad day and moved on. Well fast forward to today, 12/15/18. It's a few weeks before Christmas and everyone is in a great shopping mood. Well what happens? He's At the front counter and yelled at a paying customer while I was standing across the room. The customer was an old man and asked how much the total was and when this guy told him he couldn't hear or understand so he asked again. Well the ARF employee yelled very loudly "ITS $40 dollars!!!!" And his body language was not pleasant. He flared his arms and gave the man a stink face. The old man quickly apologized and said I'm sorry. I'm old and can't hear well. The lady next to me gasp in disbelief. This guy needs anger management or customer service skills. This quaint and charming thrift shop is definitely worth a trip to for some great frugal finds! What's more is that it's completely volunteer-run and all proceeds go towards the care of all the homeless doggies and kitties at ARF. What's to hate about that? It is hidden behind China Wall Buffet, next to that sushi restaurant and board game store where nobody ventures, so it can be super easy to miss. Like any other thrift shop, it's musty and dated in the inside. At a quick glance it seems small, but there's actually a back room where they sell more awesomely priced goodies. My personal favorites are the pet supplies and picture frames because there's such a great variety. Where else are you going to find large doggie beds for $10 bucks? If you plan on donating here, they will take in most things except old electronics or dirty appliances. Fair enough. Everything else, they're pretty open about it. They'll even sell your children's old school projects if it looks good enough! read more

I did a little Spring Cleaning and ended up with three large boxes of "treasures" to donate to ARF. Note to self---we got there at 3pm (They close at 4) and was told very politely that they prefer to have donations in by 2pm....but they took them anyway. I know if I were to have spent more time here I would have negated my Spring Cleaning efforts by bringing home four boxes of stuff. In my short visit (Mr Rinky and son were {I'm} patiently waiting) I took a fast look at everything. I ended up with a 100% wool LL Bean cardigan with cute forest animals) for a friend of mine's b-day and a deep purple camisole for me & a super soft mini teddy bear--- total coast $6!!! Score! I love that this thrift store's proceeds go to ARF's medical fund for low income pet owners in Contra Costa County. The clerk was very sweet and patient. I love that she so lovingly wrapped the picture frames of a shopper in front of me as if they were valuable art pieces. She chatted with each customer and made us all feel welcomed and appreciated. read more

I've been going to this thrift store since 2003 and it's the best! The monies made from the selling of the items goes to the Emergency Medical Fund to help low-income people when their dogs/cats need medical help. The items are of good quality and the variety of items are vast; they have named brand clothes, shoes, linens/towels as well as kitchen ware; there is a crafts, baby and pet section; the book section is unbelievable. The sales on all items is well going in for! The volunteers, who work there, are always helpful, and you can see that they are there because of their love for animals and what this store means for the animals. read more
