Joya Kitchen is a restaurant serving organic farm-fresh menu items AMBIANCE Modern, spacious inside and outside SERVICE Friendly, helpful FOOD 4/5 CLASSIC BURGER all natural beef patty, cheddar, seeded bun with self serve toppings bar: sliced red onion, lettuce, tomato, house made spread

Came specifically for a tuna melt, which was alright, but nothing major and not sure I'd pay $18 for this again. The fries were decent, but again, nothing crazy Best thing about this place is the courtyard and the ample seating and ambiance. They boast amazing canyon views , but not quite accurate

I truly enjoy coming to Joya! It's in a convenient location, but their hours are limiting for me. They are only open weekdays til 3 pm, except Thursday when they have happy hour until 7 pm. They have a nice fresh menu and a full bar. I really liked the grilled shrimp tacos and the Winter Whiskey cocktail. I've been many times and I always enjoy the spacious dining area and patio! They can host large group events too.

Shrimp tacos. Too much tortilla.

Great lunch option if you work in the area. On the pricier end if you don't work in the building and have the building discount. Beautiful open space inside and out to enjoy your meal. There was a good variety of food options from sandwiches, salads, smoothies, to tacos. I got the shrimp tacos. Although I enjoyed the taco flavors, there was too much tortilla for the amount of filling. Fries were delicious.

We decided to try happy hour with some friends. My husband and kids came along since I heard about their open concept space and outdoor games. The place is conveniently located off the 5 freeway taking the Genesee Ave exit and heading east. You go up the hill slightly and make a right and the restaurant is in a corporate area. You'll see the signage on the right and you can either park in the front of the building or the back (which we did). Free parking anywhere and there's quite a bit of space. When we arrived it was around 530pm. There was one large party and us. A half hour later it got pretty busy. We ordered our food and drinks at the counter and found a booth to share. There is ample seating and great for large groups. There is indoor and outdoor seating available as well as bar seating. The place is large scale and lots of outdoor games and grassy areas to pass the time esp at happy hour. We ordered the chips and salsa and guac, garlic fries, burger, and steak quesadilla. My husband got a canned happy hour drink which was pretty tasty. My kids enjoyed the fries. Good portion and came out crispy. The chips and salsa/guac and pretty standard. I would have preferred my guac to have more citrus flavoring (squeeze of lime maybe?); a little bland. The burger had 2 patties with cheese. My stomach was ehhh after and I couldn't figure out if it was too greasy for me or my stomach was just upset. My daughter likes the quesadilla. Came with 3 slices and was filling. We enjoyed the outdoor space very much. My kids loved running around and playing with the corn hole game. There's also a pool table inside and ping pong tables and foosball available outdoor. I would def come back just because my kids enjoyed themselves so much. Happy hour is only Tues-Thursday until 7p with last call to order food at 6pm. Get there early to enjoy the space! Too bad they aren't open on weekends otherwise we would be here all the time!!!

I've been wanting to check out Joya for a while now, but their hours were very limited. I was able go one Friday afternoon for happy hour back in August! The area is very spacious! There is a pool table inside and ping pong in the lawn area. We sat at the bar and I decided to try their blue green ocean smoothie. It came with blueberries, pineapple, banana, coconut, agave, spiralina, and kale. It was nice of them to split it for us. It was a darker blue than I normally see with spirulina, but was very refreshing and healthy! From the happy hour menu, we chose the tuna poke bowl and Baja shrimp tacos. The food was pretty good and were nice portions. We ran into a friend of ours and she let us try some of her food. I had some of the quesadilla, fries, and salad. Everything was very tasty!

One of my Yelp Elite friends, Alicia, invited me here on a Friday afternoon for Happy Hour. It was delicious!! I didn't realize that it had just recently opened. Looks to be only a month ago or so. Located in La Jolla area of San Diego, CA. According to their website - Joya is a contemporary, approachable restaurant serving organic farm-fresh menu items, daily specials, and delicious salads, sandwiches, and pressed juices. "This area of La Jolla is a central hub for some of our county's biggest innovators in science, medicine, and technology," said Clique Hospitality Founder, Andy Masi. "We wanted to create a space where some of San Diego's brightest minds as well as locals and visitors to the area, could come together over organic, fresh, delicious food while soaking up the beauty of Joya's open restaurant concept. With Chef Jojo Ruiz taking the lead on Joya's culinary direction, our guests can anticipate a fantastic, seasonal, and ingredient-driven menu." I tried the following - (1) Island Matcha Cocktail (2) Avocado Toast (3) Grilled Baja Shrimp Tacos (4) Ceviche Verde My friend also ordered a Winter Whiskey Cocktail. I'm a fan of everything! Food, cocktails, vibe were all amazing!

Joya Kitchen is a new onsite restaurant at The Boardwalk on Science Center Dr which is a corridor for numerous biopharmaceutical companies. The suite is rather hidden from the main road so you park in the front lot and then walk towards the back of the structure to reach Joya. The place is very large and modern with an open air atmosphere. Its location is very convenient for tenants of the same building and those at the next door addresses. Breakfast hours are from 8:00 to 11:00 am. Ten main dishes, six smoothies, four juices, and various coffee and espresso made up the morning menu. Lunch is between 11:00 am and 3:00 pm. Small plates, salads, soups, bowls, wraps, sandwiches, and entrees were the menu categories. On Thursday and Friday, Happy Hour runs from 3:00 to 7:00 pm. Plenty of healthy food choices were available. I chose a build your own entree consisting of one protein (Faroe Island Salmon), two greens & grains (Roasted Herb Potatoes, Roasted Seasonal Vegetables), and one sauce (Green Goddess). The salmon fillet included a charred skin that added a crispy texture. The roasted vegetables were seasoned well and had a good flavor to them. The cost for this lunch was $22 which was expensive, but it was typical of their prices. This space is great for hosting small meetings or doing some work on a laptop away from the desk while eating or drinking. With many employees working remotely now, I would be concerned that not enough people will come and patronize Joya Kitchen to sustain the business in the long run.

I found the perfect place to work remotely! The seating is very comfortable and allows me to get work done for a couple of hours. The views of the mountains are gorgeous, and the outside setting is top-tier. However, the coffee here is not good, and the food lacks flavor. Nonetheless, I don't come here for the food. it's just a nice place to work from.

What a hidden GEM. Quick, easy and delicious. The vibe is perfect. The staff is very friendly. We tired all types of goodies. The selection has something to offer to everyone. It's beautiful inside. They have a great outdoor area where theirs games like corn hole. You can enjoy a beer, great meal and unwind.

I told my friend the food was worth the wait. After an hour we got sat at the bar and our first server was friendly. There was a transition of servers (not sure if he left for the day or went on lunch) and the new server would check on everyone at the bar except us. My water remained empty for most of the meal. The bartenders in front of us were clearly having a conversation and I didn't want to interrupt. My friend claimed her Irish coffee was sour? And didn't realize cheese came on a side of eggs (she should've checked when she ordered but the server never clarified either). We weren't checked on during the meal until the bill came and by then we just wanted to leave. I ordered the fluffy pancakes and found an egg shell inside. The cracking of eggshells in my mouth made me loose my appetite. We paid (still tipped of course) and left. It was great the first time and mediocre the second time. I prefer consistently in service, especially if I'm waiting an hour to be seated.

We had spent most of the day around Bankers Hill and decided to grab an early dinner at Books & Records. Getting reservations was easy, but from the moment we walked in, the ambiance alone already had us sold. The place was still pretty quiet when we arrived, and to our surprise it was happy hour, so naturally we ordered a bunch of items off the menu along with drinks. Everything was ridiculously good. Not one miss. What really stood out though was the attention to detail. The host brought us a complimentary glass of champagne after hearing we were celebrating our anniversary. Small gesture, big impact. Stuff like that matters. As the night went on, the restaurant filled up, live music started playing, and the whole atmosphere just came alive. Our waiter never rushed us once, which made the experience feel even more intentional and relaxed. We were able to actually enjoy the moment instead of feeling pushed through dinner service. Good food is one thing. Great hospitality is another. This place gave us both. Next time we're in San Diego, we're absolutely making it a point to come back. Lovely spot. Lovely experience.

Dennise seated us and was so kind, she even shared a few of her favorite menu items since it was our first visit. Our server Anelle was great as well. She was friendly, attentive, and helped us pick some really good dishes. We tried the Tacos Dorados de Papa, El Sampler de la Abuela, and La Bomba, and for appetizers the Burrito de Machaca con Frijoles Puercos and the sweet corn tamal (which ended up being my favorite). Cramped and loud, but nicely decorated and serving solid authentic meals. Mexican Latte-9/10: Pretty straightforward. A solid, nostalgic spiced coffee. Mazapan Latte-10/10: A novelty menu item, both nostalgic and tasty. With a sweetened condensed milk rim and mazapan dust, this sweet coffee is a must order. Chilaquiles-10/10: Cocina 35 knows how to throw down the best Mexican breakfast item: the chilaquiles. The Verde was good but didn't pack much heat. The Salsa Secreta was our favorite; a creamy 3-chile salsa with an artichoke flavor, this one packs an enjoyable amount of heat. The Chipotle was another yummy and creamy option, making your nose run but still very enjoyable. Frijoles Puercos-7/10: They were pretty standard. I've definitely had better. They served their purpose as a good side. Concha Rellena-7.5/10: Another creative menu item. Whipped cream and whole strawberries sandwiched between two french toast-style concha halves and drenched in cajeta. It was sweet and warm, but would've been more enjoyable with fresher and/or sliced strawberries. Fun to order, but a regular concha is better suited for enjoying with your coffee. Service-6/10: Again, Cocina 35 gets packed, so service isn't as attentive. Our party had to order and wait for water, ask for refills, call the server over for more orders and again for the bill, and wouldn't speak to us in Spanish. I witnessed other tables be spoken to in Spanish, but upon ordering I'd only be responded to in English. I know I'm a white Mexican, but native tongue is nice when I make it clear I'd like to order in Spanish. Overall, a fun spot with solid menu items. The samplers are pricey but probably the best bang for your buck. They do the classics very well, and are very much worth your visit!

"Over medium" eggs came barely cooked, still had clear egg gel floating around. The table next to us had the same issue. The fried chicken, which is beautiful looking, was strangely flavorless. Another table was also talking about this issue. Bacon was way overcooked as well. I also really dislike when food timing for a table is way off. I rather it stay in the kitchen under a heat lamp and come together rather that spend 5 minutes staring at my food being polite. So, for a fun "wow that's a ton of food" experience this is it. But I much prefer quality ingredients and attention to detail and flavor over unfinishable portions at a premium price point ($100 after tip for 2 ppl).
