Dr. Schumacher methodically examined the problem area and ruled out potential causes, as usual explaining what he was doing and what he found along the way. Very thorough as usual. Applied antiseptic along the gum line. Smoothed out my bite splint. Was relieved when he advised that my pain was most likely just a gum inflammation issue, treatable at home by mild antibiotic, NSAID, and more thorough flossing (in-shower type). Already feel much better, with pain/discomfort gone after just a few days. Caitlin, Marianne, and Liz and Lis helped with the process -- always a great team experience at Schumacher Dental.

She also seemed flustered, like she had forgotten our exchange the previous day. I will say the front desk staff seemed very friendly and attentive and could tell we were getting antsy but I guess it was out of their control. After childhood years of an oral surgeon who yanked out baby teeth and a sadistic (I'm not exaggerating) orthodontist (retainers for seven years that gradually 'broke' and expanded my upper palette), I am a 'dental chicken.' I am very particular about who works in my mouth. Dr. Gyurko is wonderfully gentle and caring, great at answering questions, and thorough in whatever she does. She has done deep fillings for me and eventually, when I got over my fear and had two baby teeth extracted, she gave me a dental bridge that looks great. The quality of her care and the lab she used made for an excellent outcome. She 'held my hand' through the process and I have been very happy with the results. I love that the practice is not in some medical building, but rather in a house on Crystal Lake. The view out the windows is beautiful and soothing. I only had positive experiences with the office staff and hygienists. I have since moved out of state, but I have not been able to find a good dentist, not one that lives up to Dr. Gyurko's standards. Apparently my new text appointment reminder came with a scheduling chance. Two hours later, at my new appointment, I told they how my appointment time had changed and how their notification had gone from a phone call to a text. The desk clerk seemed pleased that they were modernizing their systems. I mentioned how I would have of liked the continuation of the personal touch, as I was not expecting text messages from them. I press her further on how my appointment was for 10, and not noon. She commented that the text would of put the time of my appointment. I restate that I was expecting 10, but the office was closed. She asked if I even still had the card that said that, and I did. She did not offer any apology, and blamed the new system for it all. I went from the apathetic secretary to getting my teeth cleaned, and the world kept spinning. My wife had a crime committed against her. She called the dentist office and got the secretary. She explained how she was unable to get a hold of me, that a crime had been committed and the police involved. The details of the crime went unsaid, but my wife made it clear that if she did not hear form me within the hour that the authorities were going to come there looking for me. It was then that the indifferent receptionist finally lamented that I would be out soon, and she would tell me that my wife called. I stepped out of the examination room, with new appointment and samples in hand, to be told that my wife called and it sounded urgent. I check my phone and call my wife, and start to leave forgetting my jacket. I come back in for my jacket. The Hygienist had not been told by the typist what was going on and she tried to give me an additional sample, while I was still on the phone finding out just in what way my wife had been victimized. I give the Hygienist a puzzled look and turn down the toothbrush explaining that I had to leave. And with my jacket in hand I was gone. In conclusion, I came in to an uncaring office that moved my appointment, didn't care about my dissatisfaction, was more worried about handing out samples than talking to me while I'm on the phone. I was pleasantly surprised when I called & the very friendly receptionist said they had a cancellation that afternoon if I was available. The dentist was down to earth. No additional work was needed & I made the appt. for my next 6 mo. cleaning....

I have been going here for 10 years (despite moving over 30 min away by road). They never recommend unnecessary work, always put your needs first and are just a fantastic experience all-round- and when they do work on your teeth, the quality is top notch. If all dental practices were like this, "anxiety from visiting the dentist" wouldn't be a thing.
